Game Necromancy: Planescape Musical

My Planescape game centered around planar artists petered out a while ago, but I'd like to revive it. I had two other players when it died, one of whom disappeared from the boards, but the other might be up for a revival (looking at you, Dunamin).

If there are any takers, the mic is open ...

After going back and reading the original thread, I look forward to 'hearing' verse from Mud Show sometime...

Cool! Laughing out loud I wish we could get Ben back (hope he just moved or something) he helped me start the Musical and had a really cool character, which must now become an NPC. Sad

Ayway, here's to hoping we get a couple more players, otherwise I'll just advance the story where it stands.

Note to joiners: The campaign revolves around planar artists. There is no rule requiring bard levels, per se, but the characters should at least have high ranks in a craft and make their living primarily as artists, entertainers, or craftsmen.

* BUMP *

Hello? Any takers? Read "PS: The Musical Sequal", the story isn't too far along yet, and it sits at a point where anyone can join easily. So far I've got Dunamin willing to come back in, but I'd like one or two more joiners, please.

Hmm. I was in a remake once, until I realized I'm completely unable to write songs in english. So, I guess I won't be in this one.

Nobody said anything about all songs having to be in english.
The posts should be in english, but a song or two in another language would be fun!

Truth be told, I'm not much of a poet, either, but I found an online "rhyming site" to help me with my verses.

Anyway the focus for my character, Mimo, was on storytelling, not song.

Well, I could write my songs in german and pretend it's Ysgardian or something... What the heck, I'm in.
((writing swiss german is an abomination. And I am swiss.))

So, I'll be an ysgardian warrior poet.

grenjuðu berserkir,
guðr vas á sinnum,
emjuðu Ulfheðnar
ok ísörn dúðu

Wait... that's old nordic.
German:
Uns ist in alten mæren wunders vil geseit
von helden lobebæren, von grôzer arebeit,
von freuden, hôchgezîten, von weinen und von klagen,
von küener recken strîten muget ir nu wunder hœren sagen.

Well, it'd be hard to revive

Well, it'd be hard to revive this now, but I still like the idea of the game.  I think Dunamin might be keen to it, but I wonder If I'd have any other takers.  I was thinking of trying an IC post and see if anyone bites, or I might try to start a new game with a different title, like "Infinitys' Muse" or "A Painted Cage".

I still think the base

I still think the base concept is brilliant. It cracked me up in particular when the sodkillers burst in on the scene and their captain, much to his own surprise, breaks into song. I wonder what the report to his superiors will look like?

Anyway, regardless of whether you want to continue the old game or start out a new Sigil musical/poetics game, I'm in (but of course, you knew that already).

Target was ECL 7, but creativity is encouraged over crunch.  Equipment should be practical with a few very specific wonderous items to help a character along.  I guess just try and tailor items to character.  Once again, fluff over crunch.

For instance, Stitch the Xaositect juggler has a hat of holding (basicly five bags of holding stitched together) containing various acts and costumes.  He carries a rapier, but usually in the hat.

Try to keep to the rule of threes, i.e. go for three very useful and appropriate items, and three minor ones, like shivs and potions.  Any shivs are considered to be "Keen Blades", +1 weapons of Sigilan make, unless the character concept calls for something else.

Would you like to try a different character concept, or contine on?  I'm kind of leaning toward a new game, but recycling some of the characters.

  Since the 'Yanki don't

Since the 'Yanki don't tend to get mixed up in Faction politics, the political state of Sigil doesn't come into play much in BoG'r.  This game, however, has the potential for some PCs to belong to a faction.

In my Planescape campaign, I play post-faction war with a little twist.  The Factions have largely returned to Sigil.  They now comprise about half of the posts that exist in their various city functions.  So about half the judges and clerks in the Courts are Guvners, about half the guards in the Prison are either Sodkillers or Sons of Mercy.  Etc.

The fact that Factotums haven't been mazed en masse leads most to believe the Lady's Edict was a warning, and you only had to give up your Faction for a day or even a moment when fear led many to flee the Faction War.  The Faction War itself is considered VERY poor taste to even mention aloud in public.

The government of Sigil consists on the street level with Guilds, Sects, powerful temples, and representatives of many of Sigil's unique and often racially divided districts.  These are followed by Ward representatives and the mechanics of government; the Courts, The Hall of Records, The Prison, and the Hall of Speakers.  The third tier is the Sigilan Advisory Council.  There are nine seats on the inner council, 27 (three to the third power) in the middle council and 729 (nine to the third power) in the outer council.  A Ward election is held every third year in a particular ward.  The Wards directly opposite Sigil's ring from each other vote, and it rotates around the ring every year.  The six Ward seats are three years each.  The three Sigil-wide seats are up every nine years, always in a year when the Lady's Ward and the Clerk's Ward vote.

Offhand I was prone to continue with Mimo (in same or new game) since he never had his moment to be explored, but after giving it some thought I'm getting ideas for new concepts that appeal to me more.

In particular, I’d very much like to play a ghost. A passionate dead man who is having too much fun living to give it up. Somewhat Tim Burton-esque in style, with a “merry amidst the gloom” kind of atmosphere. He does everything in his power to savor the experiences of the living, dismissing his posthumous state as “trifling details”. Yes, I was inspired by Corpse Bride.

I like!

For my own games I customized the Sigil Advisory Council to make the members quite different from the official ones - I was never fond of the idea that the most influential individuals of the closest thing to a government for the most cosmopolitan city in the multiverse comprised of... two-third humans. So Elehassa Mere became a zenythri, Gregory Holmin a cloud giant, Hary Hatchis a water genasi, and Ustisha Cambris a bariaur. Laughing out loud

If you're up for it, yes.

There is also Dire Lemon, who expessed interest in a game that didn't have so much violence.

Which reminds me ... combat.  It might not happen at all in the game, but it is set in Sigil, where anything can happen.  Unlike many other large cities throughout the planes, Sigil has absolutely no prohabition against open weaponry in the streets.  Thus the only people who do not walk around armed with something for their personal protection are either those who can afford bodyguards or those too destitute to own a blade.  The most popular class of weapon is of course the shiv, any blade from dagger to longsword, but tending toward the shorter end of the spectrum.  Due to Sigilan culture, to APPEAR unarmed is desirable.  A you know what the basher with a greatsword is going to reach for when civility breaks down, but a hidden shiv can come from anywhere.

As for the artistic niche

As for the artistic niche for my character concept (which I hope is okay?), I was thinking he might form ghostly images of ethereal mist, sort of like a sculptor. How does that sound?

A sculpter of illusions?

A sensate dies, but finds the senses of the multiverse too wonderful to leave behind.  The Dustmen wand him dead ... uh ... -er, just for showing them up and walking back out of the Mortuary, though a few are trying to recuit him, to show him the inner secrets toward attaining True Death.
