Intelligence check=3. I guess I'm on my own with this one.

Janus doesn't stop to think about it. Whether right or wrong, he has his answer. 'War,' he says simply, then falls silent as though expecting the doors to open before his wisdom.

Fringe's ears twitched in thought. "The first line implies that a weapon is involved, however it's wielded by a religious warrior and is a problem with people that just want peace. The third line states 'For those whose heart's I touch' followed by 'there is no tomarrow'. Sounds like desperation or a focus to me. The last two lines imply war."

The tiefling snapped his fingers believing he knew the answer. "It can't be sword for to name an actual weapon would be to limit templar. As for war, there may be something after a war so that can't be it either. However... My answer is this. You are Zealoutry!"

OOC:it actually orignally was sword, but I like Fringe's answer better.

"Err, actually, the answer was sword. But in all honesty I like your answer better, I'll have to remember that one!" The door says as it swings open to reveal what appears to be a waiting room. The couch in the corner takes notice of you and says "I hate those damn doors, always asking those irritating riddles! Personally I was hoping you'd just kick him in. Come on over and sit on me, Trey will be here shortly." As the door closes it says "You know, speaking of swords, your weapons will become sentient after about an hour on this demiplane. It isn't just weak sentience either, it's the real deal. It takes other objects longer but eventually everything brought to this demiplane will become fully sentient."

At the sudden appearance of a new speaking object, Quith'mek can no longer hide his annoyance. "And will my sword adopt the same contemptible chatter in which you all seem to take such glee?" His words are caustic and razor-edged. "Where is your wizard-master? We need to leave this place."

Janus brings a hand up to his wide, conical hat, making sure it's adjusted properly to cast shadows across the upper half of his face. Not that the light had anything to do with it; it was in fact due to his hat's magic. This was slightly worrisome. What if his hat became sentient and decided to give him a new look? That would be most inconvenient. Strange, worry is unlike me... first the wrong answer to the riddle, and now... no. He shakes his head slightly. It must be lingering effects from the fight with the 'gaunt. That is all.

"The githwarrior speaks correctly," the jackal-priest says looking at the couch, "We have no real wish for our possessions to animate, but we have a great need for haste away from this realm. Where is your master? It is imperative we meet with him as quickly as can be arranged."

"He should be here any second now..."

You hear the door at the other end of the room start to ask a riddle followed by the sound of a staff repeatedly striking the door.

"Damn doors, I already know every riddle you can ask! You've only asked me all of them over 100 times! Now let me through this instant!"

"You're no fun..." Sighed the door as it opens to reveal an old man wearing the classical wizard attire, right down to the pointy hat.

The old man smiles and says "Hello there! My name is... what is my name again?"

The couch sighs and says "Gregor."

"Oh, yes, right then. My name is Gregor, and who might all of you be? I don't get many guests around, though it's sort of understandable living in a demiplane and all..."

Akhenanubis looks the wizard over critically. He seems a harmless old fool, but magic often clouds threats and the party can not afford to dismiss the mage. Tactfully, the priest gives a stiff bow, not too formal but not defferential either. "Good day, Sir Gregor. We are travelers from the Outer Planes, in haste and guests by accident only. We do not wish to disrupt you or your studies and in fact would be grateful for any help you could provide to help us return to the city of Sigil."

Janus nods at Gregor, giving his wide, conical hat a tilt towards him as well.

'I am Janus Aran, and this one,' here he indicates Akhenanubis, instead of using his name, 'speaks correctly. If we could use a portal out of your realm - preferably to Sigil, but any exit would work - it would be greatly appreciated.'

Gregor tilts his hat slightly and scratches his head "I'm pretty sure there's a portal *somewhere* around here... But I can't remember where at all."

"I think the furniture might remember, they've always had a better memory than me. If the doors try asking you any riddles you have my full permission to hit them till they shut up and answer your questions or open. Well, I'm off to go take a nap, perhaps I'll remember where the portal out is in a little while if you can't find out from the various sentient objects around my home."

OOC:all of you should feel your weapons have grown slightly warm now, probably a sign of magic beginning to take hold. The dagger is also growing warm, but at a lesser rate than the other weapons. It might be best not to find out what sort of sentience will awaken in a dagger with such a strange history.

Akhenanubis regards the man with increasing disdain. Though it does not reach his face, the priest is disgusted with the man's display. To treat your own power so carelessly was an insult to the Powers who saw fit to grant you such power. This wizard had created a world, Akhenanubis had expected a man of immense stature and power. This bumbling fool would only impair their mission, not aid it.
He nods curtly to the man before glancing down at Balance. The mace's growing warmth is not a good sign. They would do well to leave quickly. "Perhaps," he says to the rest of the party, "we should concentrate our inquiry on the doors themselves, since they are the most likely to hold a portal to another plane."
Feeling a little foolish, Akhenanubis turns to the door they entered by. "You... Doorway. Do you know of any portals within this plane? Perhaps some of your fellows?"

Quith'mek allows a small smile with narrowed eyes, an uncharacteristically pleased look. Of course, the source of his pleasure is the old fool's words: "You have my full permission to hit them till they shut up and answer your questions or open." The gith almost wished the front door would give him an excuse to blast its miserable uselessness across the room.

Janus nods, and walks to the door Gregor entered the room through.

'Do you know where a portal out of this demiplane is to be found?'

Quith'mek was a githyanki inquisitor before he went rogue, so he's rather good at this, plus he uses telepathy and psychological knowledge to really become a non-human lie detector (thank you, Inquisitor psionic feat).

[...Apparently, we've been waiting for Quith'mek to talk, because he made the Sense Motive check. Here goes.]

(He's lying)
"Your thoughts betray you."
"Care to make that nap permanent? You know more than you let on, 'Thought-Granter'. We don't want to be here and your feigned senility is unconvincing. Tell us how to leave this demiplane, or I will tear it down around you."

Quith'mek manifests defensive precognition, unaugmented, expending one power point, bringing his daily reserve to 19, and gaining a +1 insight bonus to AC and all saving throws.

"I do admit that I played up the old senile wizard sterotype, I prefer to assess any people who come into my demiplane and one of the best ways is to be a senile old wizard. Well, you saw through my ruse... The exit should be one of the 2 doors in this room actually... but I can't remember which, or where the exit leads for that matter. That's what staying in a demiplane for centurys will do to you."

The door you originally entered the house through speaks up "I'm pretty sure I'm the exit. The key should actually be a key or key shaped object."

*The old wizard rummages through a pocket in his robe and pulls out a simple copper key* "I was wondering why I kept this around, now I remember. Here, take the key and go."

Akhenanubis blinks at the key in the old man's hands. He was lying, the priest thinks uncomfortably, the old man was lying and I could not judge properly. Surely even the best judges were fooled sometimes, but Akhenanubis was still shocked at his inability. The world outside of his lord's realm was certainly filled with downfalls as much as it was glories. "Your assistance is... appreciated, Sir. Much more so than your misdirections." Though intended to be admonishing, the words fell dully from the priest's mouth like crumbling sand. He took the key proferred and considered it with unfocused eyes.

Nancy walks off towards the entrance to the library.

Akhenanubis spares barely a glance toward the departing librarian, he had scarcely noticed that she came along. Instead, the priest's piercing eyes focus on the back room where the group had left a short time ago. "Indeed, it would behoove us to know the victors of the conflict, though their attention in return is less desirable. It would perhaps be most prudent to employ stealth." He turns toward Janus, though his eyes still stay on the door. "Silent one, you are an obvious choice to reconnoiter. Is there a way for you to enter the room unseen?"

I think the DMing is going great, actually. I hope some of the other players wake up a bit so we can see what is going on with the ethergaunts. I didn't post for a while in the hopes that someone besides Bob and I would respond, but a servant of Lord Anubis must take initiative sometimes.

Janus shakes his head. 'The trouble is that I have to open the door to get in. I could, though, go in without them knowing it's me. Unless,' he pauses, and looks at Quith'mek, 'his powers can let us know of the room's interior.'

"I can attempt to discern the thoughts of the room's inhabitants, though," Quith'mek says with a frown, "it would be prudent to determine whether the room has inhabitants, whether they be etherguants or Yhigoloths. I will see what I can ascertain through the door. I have done it enough in the aprehension of criminals that I can still recall my scouting. Remain here and silent."

The githwarrior slinks forward, his armor making no sound (thanks to its stealth enchantment). His Move Silently check is below. He will listen at the door to see if he can hear any creatures inside. He is preparing to manifest read thoughts through the door to scan for enemies and to launch cloud mind if he is discovered.

Quith'mek dosn't hear anything. When he attempts to use detect thoughts through the door he can sense that there is one creature in there, but detect thoughts simply seems to bend around it. Quith'mek stalks back to his companions. "There is only a single mind inside the room, but it eludes my detection. It spoke to me and claimed it was the same 'General' as before. Ethergaunts are so damnably foul, I don't know if that is a good sign or a bad sign. Shall we go meet it?" He turns as if to go back and enter the room, assuming the others agree.

You open the door to see The General standing at the other end of the room looking only slightly battered from his fight with the 3 arcanoloths "We meet again, ironically in the same exact place we met before. I often suspect there is a multiversal law of Irony, it would not surprise me in the least if the Guvners discovered one. Ah, but I digress, let us get straight to the core matter at hand. I am not unreasonable and I can promise you that the dagger would be returned to you at a later date that is not too far off, a few months perhaps. But I shall go even further as to offer you yet another job in the meantime while you wait for the object required for your first one to be finished to be returned to you, a job that could also potentially reduce the time you need to wait to a week or two if you accept it. You see, I would like to hire your assistance in my little rebellion, I feel a group such as you would be extremely useful for the more difficult missions my troops are simply not capable of handling. I can pay you in any manner you wish, whether that be gold, technology, or magic. Well, I shall give you a few minutes to discuss my offer and come to a conclusion. I warn you that if you should try to escape I will be forced to incapacitate or potentially kill you in order to obtain that dagger."

Akhenanubis's jackal-features twist into a frown. He doesn't like being threatened, nor does he appreciate the prospect of taking care of the dangerous artifact for more time. This general is an intriguing creature, to be sure, but he is beginning to show flaws just like every other mortal. He should have known better and silently chastizes himself for placing such respect in an entity beyond Anubis the Just. "I think," he says lowly, turning slightly toward the others so that the ethergaunt can't overhear as easily, "that any task which hurries the approach of this item's destruction is worthy of our attention. I do not relish the idea of getting further involved with these abominations, but perhaps the higher route has presented it and we would be remiss were we to ignore it."

Quith'mek hates this ethergaunt as much as the others, and has no particular vendetta against the yugoloths that he doesn't have against everyone else--they're all just enemies--but it's absolutely the only option they have.

"I'm glad you have agreed to help... Ah it appears those "Yugoloths" I drove off earlier are coming back for a second round."

The air ripples as the 4 arcanoloths appear once more.

The General looks at the arcanoloths and then looks over to all of you(OOC:the party, having a bit of trouble thinking of how to phrase it) and says "Want to see something interesting? These are not arcanoloths per-say, not everything is as it appears."

The General holds out his hand with his palm facing the arcanoloths and says "Abominations, those that should not exist, reveal your true forms!"

The "arcanoloths" all suddenly sprout 4 tentacles from their backs and and their facial features distort considerably, changing rapidly.

The General draws his sword and says to the "arcanoloths" "You won't get away this time."

The past hour has been far too disjointed for the priest's liking and he's not sure what to do. Are these enemies? The General certainly doesn't like them, but is he a friend or a foe?
