OOC: feel free to jump in.
Is this better?
The voice in Ohalian's mind is still very present, but it's not too loud anymore.
You can communicate with us mentally now. As for our deal, we will attempt to locate you - meaning that, if you actually are in a different dimension or whatever, we'll try finding a way to you - meaning also, a way for you to get home, if you have any desire to do so. Until then, my offer is simple: You support us in finding out what's behind all this stuff, and we support you with information and the intelligence of our AIs. As a very first thing, we'll try out a few things with the subroutine that you mentioned.
Just a second later, the man in leather disappears -Ohalian is reminded of a TV that has been switched off, the image of the man disappearing into nothingness.
Now, did you see any change?
[OOC: I'm at my parent's place right now - there's quite a snow chaos in Germany right now, and I'm stuck here, i.e. can't get into my new home right now. So I can post here occasionally, but I hope to get home monday or tuesday... which means I might be off a bit after then.
As for the game, I'm glad you started your discussion. nick, you can assume your character gets to his place in the next post. If I don't make another post in the next two days, you can assume your character gets to the rest of the group.]
To Blackthornes and Ian, Ophelia whispers,"Come now... for now we are all on the same page. We are going to do that job that was asked of us. We need to put all other things, including assasination attempts, aside right now. We HAVE to learn to trust each other, or someone may end up dead because we didn't work together as a team." She hooks her scrawny arms through each of their arms and smiles warmly.
Ian accepts Ophelia's arm and sighs. "Fine. I won't accept any jobs to kill other group members."
Ian waits for a moment. "So... seeing as we have some time on our hands... um..." Ian seems unsure on how to phrase the next sentence. "Exactly how did you get that scar?" Ian asks, gesturing to Ophelia's neck.
*accepting ophelias arm, and talking to ophelia*
"yeah, I haven't been able to keep my eye off that... how did you get that nasty scar Ophelia?"
"Well, " she begins to whisper to both of them, "I got that scar when I was only a kid, maybe fifty years old or so. I was walking through the woods on Toril, playing amoungst the thickets. When I was wandering, and practicing to be one with Nature, I saw the cutest thing. What looked to be a baby dog, just a pup, maybe 3 days old, laying on the ground just before an opening to a tunnel. When I got closer, I saw that it had TWO heads! Imagine my surprise! I thought back to what my mother and grandmother had told me about these... well they called them "Death Dogs", and about how mean and vicious they were. But this puppy was just laying there, with no mother around. So I figured that it was orphaned. I thought that I could raise it to be my animal companion.
Big Mistake! As I went to go get it, the mother comes out of nowhere with another pup in one of her mouths! I found out later that she was just moving her pups to a safer location. Animals with litters sometimes do that.
So.... I dropped the pup gently down where I found him and took off running! So fast that it felt as though I couldn't breathe and my heart felt as though it was going to beat out of my chest! BUT, no matter how fast I ran the mother Death Dog caught up with me, and tried to tear my larnyx out! I thought for sure I was dead... but luckily just before the mother got me I screamed. Now, I am not one to scream, so my tribe knew it was something important. They all came running and caught the mother in the gut with an arrow that landed HARD. She dropped me and ran off! My father went after the Death Dog to heal it, since it was only defending it's pups. My mother and grandmother went to work healing my neck and throat. But no matter what they tried it would not heal properly. They tried healing me on hallowed ground. My mother and father took me to a local cleric to regenerate my throt, and it did not work. No matter what they all tried, all I could and can do is whisper, and at times of great duress I CAN scream, but at great expence to my voice.
So at my birthrite when I was given my adult name, they called me Ophelia, after my grandmother, and added Whispers onto it for obvious reasons.
And that gentlemen, is how I got this scar," she whispers.
*To Ophelia*
"ahh......Toril, you know ophelia you are the first person i've met here that speaks of my homeland........how i long to visit the uthgardt again, how I long to see the look in the amnish guards' eyes as I escape thier clutches again......... those were the days. Ophelia, have you returned to toril sense you came here? Oh, how i wish for just a day I could gaze upon the silver marches."
"No, I have not been back since I came here," she looks a little sad. "I haven't been able to find the right portal." She starts looking a little more lighthearted now. "Besides my Xaositect friends keep me busy enough, not to mention the adventures that I go on. I find the Planes much more interesting than Toril... but yeah, to see my family again would be great. To see the sun setting over the Silver Marshes, well that is a memory that I have kept holding onto since I got here.
So we are both Primers... How long have you been here Blackthornes? And where are you from Ian?"
"Me? I'm a Cager. As far as I know, I was born here. I don't remember a lot from my early childhood, but when I was about four or five my mum... I don't know. All I know is she was gone. I joined up with the Light Boys for a while, but after a few years I got into a fight with a couple of the others, and I left. I spent the next few years making kip in a couple of the run down houses near the edge of the Slags. Not actually in the bloody place, mind you, but close enough that most right-minded berks stay away."
"I performed odd jobs for some of the local merchants, just to earn some jink, you know? But I usually had to steal for a living. Lucky for me, most of the clueless are dumb enough to trust kids, so I..." Ian looks at the present company. "Uh... anyway. So one day, I go to pick this one chap's pocket, and get caught. I coulda sworn he was gunna just shiv me there. But the thing is, I almost got his moneypouch, And I had already stolled a ring of his. He was impressed, told me I had talent, and tought me to be a professional theif. It wasn't until my seventeenth year that he finally introduced me into the Assassin's Guild."
"And thats pretty much it. I killed people for a living." Ian looks around. "But I had morals. I never killed kids, for one. And I always charged high enough to kill women that most sods went to someone else. I was was always quick. I knew plenty of guild members that just loved to make people die slow, real barmy killers, you know? But I always tried to do it as painless as possible. No need to torture them, thats not really a part of the job. A quick poison that kills them in their sleep, that was my favored method."
"But thats all gone to the loths now, the harmonium busted up the guild just a couple days ago. I don't know how many got out. So i'm just laying low for the time being.'
"me? well i've only been here a short while, I came to the outlands on a stroke of bad luck, and I came to Sigil to search for the roots of my heritage. It seems I was not born an uthgardt, but became one. All they could tell me was that I was excepted because of these yellow eyes..... they thought that because of these eyes I had been sent to them by uthgar himself to lead them from their problems. They took me in and raised me to be a strong warrior, but i just couldn't keep my hands out of their pockets and my mouth from telling stories, never once did they kick me out. I eventually left to look for others like me, and they said they couldn't wait for my return, I went to athkutla to work and earn money for my people, and i quickly picked up the black market trade, which lead me here..... through a portal by accident, and i have not found away back yet either. You guys are the first party I've got together with, hopefully for a while. Hey, maybe we'll even happen upon a portal back Ophelia, wouldn't that be great."
Ian, looking at Blackthornes, thinks to himself. Yes, as soon I find a portal to your precious prime, I'll make sure you go through it. Toril... Elemental Plane of Ooze... so similar.
*thinking to himself*
so this sleez ball has been in Sigil all his life..... what a suprise, this city is such a dump, why he fits right in.
*to the group*
"Well, enough of the sentimental stuff, I'm not much of a softie anyways. Were is Tigerfury, shouldn't he be coming? Wow, he certainly takes long enough to get here."
OOC: Were has dread pirate swan been? the only thing I can think of is that he's had an awful lot of time put in at the gas station.
Ophelia whispers, "Yes, going back to Toril would be... would be great. I guess I just gave up on it so long ago...." she gets a far away look in her eyes. Then they clear up sharp as a fox's. "How long should we wait for this cat-man?"
OOC: Where are you Dread Pirate Swan? We miss you!
Ian looks around. "Well, we should at least wait the full half an hour we promised him. It wouldn't be right to do otherwise."
OOC: I assumed the Dread Pirate to be lurking in the shadows, waiting for his chance to strike. Maybe he fell asleep back there...

Just a second later, the man in leather disappears -Ohalian is reminded of a TV that has been switched off, the image of the man disappearing into nothingness.
Now, did you see any change?
Ohalian thinks down the connection, Yes, he disappeared, and the volume is much better. Now, I'll assume you'll want to know everything I do about Sigil?
When they respond with the affirmative, he'll begin telling the guy on the other line everything he knows about Sigil, the Planes, the beliefs and culture of the locals (including the Factions and the local's belief in 'magic', and the nature of that which he's observed of the latter so far), and will advise them to begin scanning the building they're housing the AI in for any sort of anomalies that might indicate a portal, given that he can't think of much else that would allow this sort of communication.
It's about that time when he'll arrive at the neat little house in the Clerk's Ward that he and his girlfreind live in. Pulling out the key she gave him, he unlocks the door and slips in, locking the door behind him and scanning the room for any irregularities as he does so. It's not that he's expecting trouble, but old habits die hard, and a degree of paranoia can save your life.
"Rose? You home?"
OOC: Sorry about the gap in posting for me, guys. A storm caused a powersurge that fried my family's networking equipment, bringing down our home network until we bought a replacement for them today.
the masked Gnoll looks around at the surrounding Merchants. "Well, Naruk said that we needed fire and though protection, and some sort of invisibility spell. Any idea where we can get those?'
OOC: Don't Worry, I am here. I just dont have anything to say an Im tired of making pots about my mubming rants about evil.
Ian straightens up. "Well... I dont know about the others, but I know what we need for the stealth bit. The sphere of invisibilty spell. We wont be invisible to each other, which is a plus. But we would have to stick close together to all remain invisible, so it might not be a bad idea to get two of them, so we can spread out a little."
"Problem is, its not exactly a simple spell. So unless we can find a used wand that being sold for cheap, we'll have to but some sort of scroll or charm."
"Unless you are all okay with some less... honest means of aquisition." Ian says smiling, an impish look in his eyes.
*to ian*
"Of course I'm alright with that, though the other members of our party might not like that un lawful approach to things, me on the other hand, i'm a good thief, so I can contribute to that plan."
OOC: I was hoping it might come to this.....
*Ophelia rolls her eyes in a sarcastic manner, then smiles*
"I have no problem with either of you two going off to do that... I just do NOT want to be involved. Besides, are you two sure you can cooperate for that long?" she laughs quietly when she says the last part.
*Then she takes her arms from theirs and taps them both on the back.*
"What about him?" she whispers to only Ian and Blackthornes, hooking a thumb in the direction of the Masked Gnoll.
"The Masked Gnoll doesn't seem like the canniest of bashers. It shouldn't be too hard as long I can convince him that this is for the greater good, or soemthing like that. Anyway, I'm not stealing anything unless we can't afford it, and we actually need it. I'm willing to risk the Harmoniums wrath is not doing so will lead to my death." Ian says.
*to Ian*
" Good point, I don't think we want to tangle with the harmonium unless we absolutely have to...... those guys aren't exactly the nicest cagers around."
[OOC: My internet connection is back It's still not at 100%, so I might be a bit slow to start with, but at least I can respond again.]
Ohalian enters his home, but Rose isn't around. He finds a letter of her, though:
"My love,
it seems I have some unfinished business to do... bad people that I got rid of years ago which now try to come back into my life. I know how to handle this, but if they found out about you, you wouldn't be safe. I will be gone for a week or two.
Don't worry, I know exactly what I have to do, and I have someone to support me whom I trust almost as much as you.
In case you get into any trouble, there's ring hidden where I put this letter. It appears when you speak the name of your home world, and that's also the command word to activate it. It won't protect you directly, but it might be you some time. But be careful with it, it can be used only twice.
Kisses,
Rose"
Naruk, listening to the conversation, says calmly, "I'm here to support your group. Short, I don't care about what you do, just whether you need my abilities or not."
[OOC: Good job everyone, it was great reading your stuff ]
Ohalian mutters "Aquila", and then places the ring in one of his pouches, before grabbing a pot of ink, a quill, and a sheet of parchment.
Dear Rose,
Don't underestimate me, sweetie. I can take care of myself, and I made my living dealing with criminal types for years.
I'll be away for a few days, on a job to a plane called Baator. I think that's one of the Lower Planes you told me about. I'll be fine, don't worry. Here's what downpayment I've managed to aquire, and I hope it will cover my portion of the rent.
Once I'm back, I'll see what I can do to help with your situation, if it hasn't been resolved by then.
Love,
Ohalian
He'll then put the letter in the same place as Rose's one, and then place the bag with the payment's he's acquired so far on top of it.
He'll then hurry to the Market Ward, running along the rooftops of Sigil, as he reckons it'll be faster than walking along its twisting streets.
OOC: He's got a +17 bonus on Jump checks, and a +11 bonus on Balance checks. He'll be taking 10, so he should be able to run along rooftops (DC 10-20, depending on level of obstruction and slipperyness) with full speed, unless he gets attacked by something and needs to make a check. His jump skill means that he can jump 27 feet horizontally and 6 feet vertically (+8 feet vertical reach, so he can jump onto ledges up to 14 feet up and pull himself up) without needing to make a check.
[OOC: Ohalian gets to the meeting place in time, there's no further trouble. To speed things up a bit, it was fine that you just took the ring. As a general rule, though, please wait for my descriptions before you do something - theoretically, something else than the ring appearing in front of you could have happened.]
Tigerfury hops off the roof of a nearby building, and walks over to the group.
"Hello, folks! I hope I haven't missed much..."
"Oh. Youre here. Good." Ian says. "By the way, here are your rations for the next few days." Ian hands Ohalian the Meatfruit. "So, did your imaginary friend teach you any new games while you were gone?"
Ohalian accepts the bag, stowing its contents among the pouches he's wearing under his coat.
Well, I've already got 2 month's worth of violet rations, but these fruit things will probably keep me from dipping into that supply.
When asked about the man in leather by Ian, he'll smirk, and reply, "Don't worry, he's gone. I could give you the full story, but I doubt you'd understand it."
Ian, in typical planar fashion, simply crosses his arms and says "Try me."
Ohalian grins.
"Okay."
He'll then begin telling Ian the story of what happened, deliberately obfuscating it with as much technobabble and as many acronyms as he possibly could.
Ophelia openly stares at Ohalian while he talks. She then turns her back on him and whispers only to Ian, Blackthornes, and the Masked Gnoll, "He is as barmy as a berk with cranium rats running around his brain-box!" She then turns back around and nods knowingly at Ohalian, as though she has followed everything he just said.
OOC: That is classic Nick!
Ian sits there, wading through the torrent of unfamiliar words, untill Ohailian stops. "So, you arnt crazy, the man in leather never existed, and he was caused by some thing that went barmy with all of that... stuff." Ian guestures toward Ohailains cyberware. "Thats what your telling me, right?"
OOC: There has to be some advantage to having an 18 intelligence.
Ohalian nods.
"Pretty much, yeah. I'm actually surprised that you managed to understand that much, considering virtually all of the technical words were in the dominant language of my home Prime world."
"Oh, I still have no idea about most of what you just said. But its only the effects that matter, anyway." Ian says.
"So! lets be off. A friendly fiend awaits!"
Ohalian follows Ian.
"Freindly Feind? Isn't that a bit of an oxymoron?"
"On days that end with y? Yes. But lets just say that Akin isnt your typical fiend. He's either a nice guy, or a damn fine actor. Either way, he can proably get us what we need, and for cheap."
"Cheap is good, though I don't know what it is you're planning on buying."
"A couple group invisibility charms, some mind shielding, and a bit of flame protection." Ian says. "I hope you already have some form of some of those, because we're stretching our jink as it is."
* Ophelia follows Ian and Ohalian to A'kin's*
*blackthornes follows them as well*
"Well, mt clothing utilized adaptive camofluage, which aids me considerably with hiding, though it doesn't give me anything close to invisibility. As for the flame protection... well, I heal really, really fast, so most fires aren't strong enough to hurt me for long. The mind protection... well, I'm a survivor, but even so, it could come in handy.
OOC: The fatigues give him a +5 bonus to hide checks in areas with the appropriate backround (urban camo in urban areas, forest camo in forest areas, etc.), though it doesn't let him hide in plain sight like invisibility would. I've also got Fast Healing 10, and the ability to add 3d6 (pick the highest) to my saving throws.

"Ian, I have this wierd necklace that I bought when I was lookin' for somethings to help me out while traveling the planes.....the vendor said it was a necklace of adaptation, will it help me on any of the things we need?"
*Blackthornes holds up a necklace of adaptation that has been on his neck*
"Actually, no. Those only create a small bubble of air around your head. So, you wont drown, and you cant be effect by poison gas, but it really doesnt have any protective qualities." Ian says. He reaches up to his neck, and holds a brass medallion etched with arcane runes. "I have one too."
Ohalian smiles.
"Oh, good. That means that my tear gas and poison gas grenades won't hurt you. I personally have a mask", he says, gesturing to his metal breather mask, "that cleanses the air I breath, and converts water to breathable air. Well, until I go to deep, anyway. Then the air it makes goes toxic because of the pressure."
Ian looks at Ohailian. Hes unfamiliar with the term Tear Gas, but he understands the concept of poison gas well enough.
"So, no using that gas around the rest of the party. By the way, exactly what does Tear gas do? Because most fiends are immune to poison, so thats more likley to hurt us than them."
"Ummm, yeah. Guys? I don't have a protective necklace either, but I do have this nifty ring that was said to protect me from the different elemental planes, and those like them. I don't think it will protect me from your "Tear Gas" though, if it's anything like poisonous gas. Maybe I should invest in one of those necklaces too?"
"Under normal circumstances, I'd say yes. But they're rather expensive, and not of much use were we're going. If things get bad, Ill let you use mine. I've developed a bit of a resistance to most poisons over the years. Comes with the job, really." Ian says.
"Tear gas is a chemical that causes extreme irritation of the eyes and respiratory system. Basically, it makes it feel like your eyes water, and your eyes, mouth, throat, lungs etc. feel like they're on fire."
OOC: Tear gas technically isn't a poison, though its relatively low save for this level (Fort DC 15) means that it probably won't be too effective against anything we're likely to fight. If it works, though, they'd be nauseated for as long as he's in the cloud, and for 1d6 rounds thereafter.
*to ian*
"Oh no friend, you've got it all wrong, you see someone discribed him to me, saying he's always frolicing, picking flowers, pransing around, and frequenting the back ally bars, and on toril, those types of men are either fey or their into other men. Does that discription not sound a little odd, considering those words are describing a pit fiend? Oh and about the hiring for killing, I think I could put up a fair fight... friend."
OOC: I know that it was not such a good plan, but considering the fact that joyblood won't be around for a couple of days, i figured we could just spark up some small talk
