No special abilities, Katkalkan answers, besides what any item crafted from Astralwood has.
Game: Great minds think alike
"Astralwood?" Ian asks. "I can't say I've heard of that before. Tell me, in what way is Astralwood special?"
Astralwood grows on the dead bodies of the old Powers of Nature. It is no real wood, but a mixture of the God's essence and Astral energies. I know of no effects bringing it to the Prime or Inner Planes; it slowly dissolves in the Ethereal; and it adapts in the Outer Planes. That is, whereever you bring it in the Outer Planes, it will not be harmed by the environment, and it will appear like an item crafted on that plane - so much that even spells consider it an original item of that plane. That is what I know of Astralwood. Oh, and it is rare and expensive.
"Oooh...madeof divine and astral energy! We should take it... especially if it changes it's look to look like something that will be native to any outer plane."she whispers.
OOC:How big is this chest again?
Ian looks at the ball of light in a bemused way. "While thats certainly... interesting, I can't actually imagine a situation where we would need a chest that becomes immune to planar effects and changes form. I Mea, yes its neat, and rare... but how is this useful to use?"
Ian looks at the rest of the group. "If any of you want it, go ahead. I dont think I'll be using it."
I am merely a helper in A'kin's little shop - I don't feel capable to guide you on adventures, dear Ian. It is upon you to decide how useful it is.
[OOC: The chest is three feet long, two feet wide and two feet high.]
Ophelia leans in close to Ian, and whispers something barely audible to him..."We can always sell it alittle down the road and make some jink off of it...or would that make dear A'kim really mad at us? I mean, it IS a gift." She then waits for his response.

As if answering to his name, A’kin opens the door to his backroom, and returns to the store. He holds a red jewel in his hand, with a small golden light flickering within it.
"There we are, my dear friend!" He gives Ohalian a warm smile, showing his sharp teeth. "This blood diamond contains your lost life energy now."
He closes the door behind him with a smash, then walks straight to Ohalian and offers him the diamond. "Take it, but be careful: In the hands of fiends or evil mages, this could turn against you in horrible ways. You need to get that energy back into yourself as quick as possible."
*Ophelia jumps with a start when A'kin walks in... then realizing it is "just" A'kin, noticeably relaxes a little. She asks A'kin "Can this chest be made any smaller? I mean I can shrink a willing animal down to size, but never have I been able to do this to "astralwood". And I would hate to try and warp such a beautiful piece of art."
A'kin looks at Ophelia, obviously startled. He then shakes his head, replying, "Obviously, my little immaterial friend didn't know everything about the chest he should know. The chest is made from Astralwood, and the Astral energies don't react well to spells. That is, ANY spell cast on this chest could either warp the chest... or the spell."
After a short moment of silence, Katkalkan slowly hovers down to the ground, disappearing at the moment the light touches the floor.
"No, I don't know much about astralwood... that is why I asked you," she smiles shyly after saying the last part and bowing slightly to A'kin to acknowledge his knowledge.
[OOC: A'kin was referring to Katkalkan when he said "little immaterial friend" ... but so what ]
OOC: Thank the gods he was not reffering to Ophelia

Ian pulls a wand out of his bag. "I'm worried this might be faulty. I've tried tried using it, and it's failed to pick up magical Auras on effects that are obviously magical in nature. Any chance I can trade this in for a Detection Stone or something?"
"And..." He leans in close. "I hear that the Bataazue can see in magical Darkness, and I think that I might not be a bad idea to have something that will let us do the same. Do you have anything of that nature?"
"No detection stones at the moment, my friend, but seeing through magical darkness can be accomplished... only for two persons, though. I have two Gemstones of Gathari, wonderful pieces of art which allow the person holding it and speaking the right command word to generate a beam of light that only he can see. That light can be pointed anyhwere, and so it can be used to see through any kind of darkness. As a side note, I have met Gathari personally, and she's a wonderful wizard, a perfectionist and master of her art."
He pauses for a moment, then adds, "Of course, any new wishes from you and your group aren't for free, the offer was only for the items you already choosed."
"That seems reasonable. After all, we wouldn't want getting greedy." Ian says, smiling.
"So, how much for a Gemstone?"
OOC: Sorry for not talking! my internet was down for a few days >.<
"And how much for the other gemstone? I think we should have a spellcaster with one of these things too." adds Ophelia.
-Ophelia
"Actually, I can chuck a few myself, But I see what you mean."
"The standard price per gemstone is hundred and twenty thousand gold... but I'll make you a special offer. You really catch me in the right mood - I only hope I'm not ruining myself here!" A'kin says with a wide grin.
"Let's say twenty five thousand gold pieces per gemstone. Does that sound like an offer?"
"Hmmm, Thats a bit expensive. But I think we can do it." He turns toward Ophelia. "But I think we should only get one. Charrd only gave use 40,000 for equipment. We cant afford two without dipping into our own supply."
He turns toward the rest of the Party. "So, Is there anyone here who doesn't think that they will need their full 10,000? If so, feel free to chip in."
"why would I chip in to buy an Item for someone else?"
Ian sighs. "Because, you short sighted little man, this way, we have at least one person in the party who WON"T be utterly incapacitated by some fiend's Darkness effect. We should be prepared. If they can see in magical Darkness, and none of us can, how long do you think it will take for us to be slaughtered?"
"I didn't get any of this 10,000, so I'm out of the running." The Illumian smiles. "But I have enough spells to deal with anything like that, I do believe."
She gestures towards the chest. "I know I'm new, but feel free to keep anything too large to carry in my bag. I don't have much in it at all."
((OOC:....guys?))
OOC: I'm still waiting for the Dread Pirate/ Ophelia. Maybe Blackthornes, if he knows whats good for him.
" I will chip in some of my jinkfor one, but only if the others agree to as well. Can't be spending all of it right now you know, we may need something a little farther down the line," whispers Ophelia.
*to Ian*
" I guess I will chip in a little, although I still dont see the point of buying such a thing for a spell chucker. After all, they should be able to dispell or make the darkness go away with a light spell or something."
The Illumian scoffs at Blackthornes. "While it's true that we 'spell-chuckers' have the ability to dispel darkness, our abilities could be put to much better use. Dispelling such a thing takes quite a bit more power than you might think."
"Besides, only the lesser forms of Darkness can be outright dispelled. The longer lasting, more powerful Darkness effects cant even be dispelled by a full fledged Daylight spell, only lessened."
Ian looks around. "What? I have experiance with these things, they are really good at providing cover for an escape."
"well I supose I cant argue with spell chuckers about spell chucking. Afterall I know nothing of spells. As long as it helps the group as a whole, I will help pay for it."
"Very well then." Ian says. "I'll chip in my full 10,000. That means you three just have to split up the other 15. 5000 each should give you guys enough to buy a few other things. Deal?"
Ohalian pipes up.
"My sensors can detect anything moving, even in the dark, so if they have a beating heart and flowing blood, I can see them."
He then turn to the floating skull. "You're one of those mimir things, aren't you? What do you know of Ba'ator?"
Charknathrol turns to Tigerfury, approaching him slowly.
Not mimir... mimirs are constructs... Charknathrol is intelligence that stayed after soul passed on. Baator... know more than I can tell you in span of your lifetime.
*To Ian*
"Alrighty, sounds good to me. Afterall, if im feeling empty pocketed, I will just get some "donations" from fellow town members."
*Ophelia hands over her part of the jink to Ian*
-Ophelia
The masked Gnoll suddenly leaps back a few feet. "No! These are MY shinies. Not yours! You can have them over my... You know..." He starts to look a bit lost. "The cold, sticky part thats left over when you punch someone."
A'kin observes the situation with a good bit of curiosity, but obviously no intention of getting in-between.
"You know, for a vigilante, you're acting pretty selfish. I though you guys were supposed to go around helping people and all. Without this gem, people could be hurt. Badly."
Ian sighs. " I guess you're just not that kind of Vigilante..."
OOC: I think this would be a bluff check. Bluff check: 9+10= 19
[OOC: Actually, I think this is more of a Diplomacy check... as far as I understand your intentions.]
OOC: which bumps it up to a 25 rather than a 19.
[OOC: Since this is a rushed Diplomacy check (Ian isn't argueing for a whole minute or longer, but attempting to convince Blackthornes *now*), there's a -10 penalty.
So, Blackthornes, please make a Diplomacy check yourself to oppose Ian's check.
Both, please note that Blackthornes is a PC, not an NPC, so the check isn't meant to force a positive reaction is Ian is successful; Blackthornes might interpret Ian's words more positively, but how exactly this influences his reactions is only up to Blackthornes.]
OOC: actually, Im talking to the Masked Gnoll.
[OOC: Whoops - sorry! ]
OOC: No problem.
Dread Pirate... where are you?
[OOC: I've PMed Dread Pirate, but with no reaction so far. If he doesn't reply within the next 24 hours, I'll just take over his character for the moment. I'm not happy with this, but I don't see a better solution.]
OOC: He rarely posts in any case.
OOC: Sorry about that everybody, I got myself eaten by a swarm of angry mephits, and it took a few days for my so called 'friends' to stop laughing at my remains and find a cleric.
And this agrument is probably over, since I rolled a 3, and have no ranks in diplomacy.
The masked Gnoll looks kind of lost. "But... But I am a vigilante. I swear I am! I'll not let you ruin my reputation! YOU WILL NOT RUIN MY REPUTATION!" He yells as he digs in his items, pulls out his gold pouch, and throws it on the counter."HA!"
He sits for a moment. "Hey... wait..." Before rushing over and removing 5000, leaving that on the counter and taking the rest.
"Now why would I think that the pouch I gave you held the exact amount you were looking for?" He mumbles to himself.
"Does the chest have any special abilities?" Ian asks. " Becuase if not, we have some extradimensional spaces. At least, I do. I dont think we will need something as large as a chest to carry what little we are buying."
