Ohalian doesn't resist the telekinesis.
And yes, everyone here only knows him as Tigerfury: it's the pseudonym he uses to protect his real identity when 'working'.
Ohalian doesn't resist the telekinesis.
And yes, everyone here only knows him as Tigerfury: it's the pseudonym he uses to protect his real identity when 'working'.
[OOC: I'll post again in a few hours, had to care about a new player that's going to join the group soon... ]
Ohalian still feels the chilling tentacles in his face. One of them touches his right temple, and he feels how his skin begins to dissolve... as suddenly he feels a strong pull on his whole body, moving him near to an open cupboard with a variety of powders in it.
Despite having escaped the tentacle, he feels the cold presence following him, and an astonishingly strong hand grabs his throat.
You will not get away, thrall. I have already died; now death is my servant.
[OOC: Ohalian gets five points of damage, again substracted from both total and current hit points.]
Jumping at where the dark presence was, the Masked Gnoll sees Tigerfury being pulled away by an invisible force... and something tells him to adapt his attack. With a quick move, his weapon strikes at the empty air besides Tigerfury. Indeed, his strike only hits the ground... yet, it felt as if the blow was slowed down for a second, as if moving through water.
Observing the situation, Blackthornes decides to attack the same position that the Masked Gnoll attacked, his weapon, too, moving through empty air... but also slowing down for a split second.
With a loud shriek, A'kin jumps at Blackthornes' side, bringing his staff down on the invisible enemy... and as his weapon crushes on the ground, dark blood can be seen on his weapon.
You, thrall.
Ian hears a rasping voice in his mind, making him feel cold... very cold... numbing his muscles, as if they were not a part of his body.
Obey my commands.
His body... is it truly his? It doesn't feel like... no. He doesn't feel his body at all. All he feels is cold...
[OOC: @Fidrikon: Make a will save against DC 12 to break out of the chill. Ian realizes that the dark presence is taking control of his body.]
As the cold envelopes him, Ian is suddenly filled with rage.
LIKE HELLS I WILL! I am fed the PIKE UP with you magical voices, poking around my head and messing with my actions. You get the bloody pike out of my head right now or I'm going to kill you all over again!
All anyone can see of this encounter is Ian's scowl.
OOC: Will save 8+5= 13
As his flindbar passes through the shadow-thing, the Masked Gnoll yells:
"Now YOUR It!" And turns to flee. He runs across the room and dives over the counter.
OOC: Dont look at me like that. Its not like my attack did anything anyway.
OOC: Is that damage accounting for my DR?
Also, I'm guessing that I've taken a negative level?
Ohalian scans the room for the whatever it is that's dring his life away. He figures that if he locates it, he can shoot it. If not, he figures that the staff A'kin was using must have had some sort of energy in it, and given that it's so cold, he figures that fire would be the biggest help, so he'll fire a couple of White Phosporus mini-rocket into the air, where it would detonate in a ball of flame.
So cold...
OOC: I'll post any rolls when I get home; I'm posting this from uni.
EDIT: Added rolls.
EDIT2: Somehow managed to double post there. Subtract 5 from the second one. Add 1 if he's firing his rifle.
*Since everyone is so close (I think) to the entity, Ophelia will do another daylight spell to help everyone decifer, if just for an instance where the entity is.*
Ophelia casts Daylight again as her next move.
OOC: Sorry I was gone sooo long you guys, it has taken untill now to be able to sit in the chair in front of my comuter. But hopefully this will be the last back surgury during this game.
"Ophelia!" Ian Yells. "I think the shaodw just tried to use some sort of compulsion magic on me. It called me a thrall."
"I dont think this is something that the Illithid summoned through the gate. I think it IS the Illithid. You said before that..."
* At this point Ophelias Daylight spell would go off, or something."
"Nevermind. Try some sort of Anti-Undead spell next."
OOC: Nice to see that it went well, Ophelia. Kinda makes you wish that it was as simple as finding somone to cast cure light wounds, eh?
OOC:@Fidrikon, yeah totally! Thanks too.
IC: Ophelia is going to ask Hoot mentally as well if he can see or sense anything. Also, since Ophelia is still under the effect of the Bite of the Werebear, do her animal senses sense anything more than what she would normally be sensing?
[OOC: @nick: I checked your character sheet, but couldn't find anything about damage reduction. Maybe I'm just blind - help me out there, please
@everyone else: I'll post the effects of your actions as soon as I know about nick's / Ohalian's damage reduction thingy...]
OOC: I have DR 4/- from my skeletal reinforcement cyberware.
[OOC: @nick: The damage isn't affected by your DR, and, no, you haven't taken a negative level.]
@everyone: Going to post in the next few hours!
[OOC: Whee, darn internet connection kicked me out for a while again. Satelitte DSL sucks. :-/ ]
Ian, focussing on his rage, battles against the force trying to control his mind. It is a strong force, and the mental grip hurts badly... yet, Ian takes his chance when his invisible opponent seems to be unfocussed for a moment. He is still free - but he knows it was a close win.
Well done.
As he speaks to Ophelia, another, so far unknown voice appears in his mind. It is friendly, yet dark, reminding Ian of a cat's purrs.
Only seconds later, another daylight spell fills the room... and yet again, it is sucked away by the dark presence. Golden sparks show its shape... but this time, the sparks don't disappear. The creature has become visible - somewhat, at least.
Just then, A'kin's staff goes down on the enemy once more, and as he hits the humanoid shadow, the staff catches fire, leaving black traces in mid-air - where the creature's chest would be.
With a wild grin, A'kin speaks: "Your existence is as good as over, thief. Die...", making himself ready for the next attack.
The Masked Gnoll takes cover behind the counter, observing the situation. Out of nowhere, he hears a dark, yet comforting voice, reminding of a cat's purr:
Interesting... you're one unusual hero.
As the creature turns around once, getting an overview of the situation, its sparkling silhouette shows that it is, indeed, the illithid with its claw-like hands and four ever-moving tentacles.
The mind flayer stretches out his hands to the portal above him, and everyone can hear strange words that sound as if called from a far distance: "IrranumorannilothShadokTynlochMaggoroth"
As he speaks, the portal slowly turns black, changing its shape... to something large. It is impossible to say yet what it is that's appearing above everyone's heads.
Blackthornes, making another strike at the now-visible illithid, hits the opponent right in his face. Once again, his weapon moves through empty air... but the creature's painful reaction shows that the attack was not without effect.
Tigerfury uses his rifle to shoot at the dark creature. He shoots twice at his enemy, and the bullets go through the creature's body hitting a cupboard a few feet behind him. With every hit, though, the creature twists in pain, and it seems like it is almost faltering.
As soon as Ian hears the voice in his head he thinks back as 'loud' as he can.
OUT. NOW.
Before he gets started on an angry, yet silent, rant that would have included several terms inapproprait for small children, he sees the illitid yell its command, and the odd reaction of the changing portal above him.
Ian reaches into his haversack and withdraws his hand with a single arrow, which he then, expirimentally, teleketically thrusts at the forming shape. As he does so, he takes a step back, should anything drop out of the portal.
I come from within you, the voice speaks in Ian's mind. There is no OUT to me...
[ OOC: @everyone: Please remember making your init. rolls! ]
OOC: As in we need to roll new ones? Or as in we should post post only when its our turn?
[OOC: As in, roll new ones, since a new round has begun; and as in, please remember your init. rolls whenever a new round begins ]
Ok for this turn Ophelia is going to outline the "for now" visible illithid in Fairie Fire just so that on the off chance if he tries to go invisible again he cannot.
Initiative-> rolled a 12+ 3 init. modifier = 15
OOC: Welcome to the game PrincessBunny
[OOC: @Ophelia: Totally forgot about Hoot and your animal senses. Hoot couldn't see the illithid-creature before you made your last daylight spell, although he noticed an evil presence - which is quite the same as the "warning feeling" that your animal senses gave you all the time.
After the mind flayer's chanting and the change of the portal above, Hoot seems to be frightened, and your animal senses tell you something like: Run. Run. Run. Run. Run....]
OOC: 6+9= an 15 initiative.
Umm... don't you roll initiative at the start of each combat, not each round?
*checks the SRD*
It agrees with me, unless you've house ruled this...
[OOC: Is that so? Whoops... I'm still used to 2nd ed. AD&D, didn't know it's different in D&D 3rd ed.
I'll make this a democratic thing, then: What do you prefer, initiative rolls every round or once per combat?
@pb: You can vote, too, of course ]
[OOC: I like at the beginning of each combat, but since combat goes so slow on the boards, polling at the beginning of each round doesn't seem so bad either...but yeah, for 3rd Ed, it is rolled once each combat :)]
OOC: once per combat.
OOC:So is the new roll a yay....or a nay?
OOC: we are voting on the subject right now
[OOC: I'm gone over the weekend, small business fair. I'll post again on monday!]
ooc: I vote once per combat.
-Ophelia
[OOC: It's once per combat then. So everyone, make your move if you haven't done so yet ]
Well, If that is the case, then we can put this off for now, at least until I... or is it We?... Are out of danger. Right? Good.
Ian still continues with his plan to hit the thing with the arrow.
Initiative-> rolled a 12+ 3 init. modifier = 15
Just in case you missed my action as I wrote it the first time  .
-Ophelia
SHHHHHHHHH! I'm Hiding. I dont want you to give me away. Go find your own hiding place.
No... wait. Thats hide and go seek. I thought we were playing tag.
Aw Lady's Blades. So THATs why they were looking at me funny. Well, you caught me I guess. Now its your turn to hide. You have to 10. Gosh I love this game.
Now, clearly for anyone to hear, the Masked Gnoll is saying aloud:
"1, 2, 3, 4, 5..."
OOC: *dusts off his character sheet*
Hello? Blackthornes... Nick? I think you guys are the only ones who still need to post this round.
OOC: I need to know what happened last round first.
Nick, I believe this is what happened in the last round.
Ian, focussing on his rage, battles against the force trying to control his mind. It is a strong force, and the mental grip hurts badly... yet, Ian takes his chance when his invisible opponent seems to be unfocussed for a moment. He is still free - but he knows it was a close win.

Tigerfury uses his rifle to shoot at the dark creature. He shoots twice at his enemy, and the bullets go through the creature's body hitting a cupboard a few feet behind him. With every hit, though, the creature twists in pain, and it seems like it is almost faltering.
OOC: I don't know how I missed that.
Seeing the apparition twist from being shot, Ohalian grins, and keeps shooting it.
OOC: Blackthornes is a littole sick of his claws, and will change to his rapier, which will waste his round
Ian's arrow flies at the portal, but at the moment the arrow touches the portal, it dissolves - not like it was burned or crushed, but it simply ceases to exist.
The shape above turns into an almost humanoid face, several yards large, dark and frightening, in constant motion as the portal moves like a sea.
Ophelia casts another spell, but this time, the illithid shadow resists her magic. For now, though, the creature still stays visible.
With another attack, A'kin hits the mind flayer with his staff, which suddenly begins to glow in golden light. A'kin grins, saying, "Now we got adapted to you. Farewell..."
"1, 2, 3, 4, 5..."
The Masked Gnoll counts while the voice continues to speak.
I am hidden already. And I long for you to find me. Yes, find me. But to find me, you need to focus on your powers. You need to become aware of the strength hidden within you...
The illithid creature turns to the face in the portal, and everyone can hear his mental calls. The thoughts sent out by the mind flayer seem desperate, fearful, yet full of rage.
Irranumoranniloth... I force my will upon you! Destroy my enemies!
Blackthornes tries to take some cover while changing his weapon. Quickly, he wields his rapier, readying himself for another attack.
Another two shots hit the apparition - and the cupboard behind it. The creature's darkness seems to become less real, less... dark. It is still there, but it seems to dissolve with every hit.
Finally, the face in the portal opens its eyes, dark holes that show a power beyond mortal imagination. Even A'kin seems to be frightened as he looks up into the face, and feelings of horror and fear run through everyone's mind.
WHO ARE YOU TO CALL ME?
As Ian's arrow vanishes, his eyes go wide in alarm.
Well, thats certainly interesting.
As the face appears and begins to speak, Ian takes a step back.
Somehow, I don't think the scroll is going to cut it this time.
OOC: Ian makes a sense motive roll to discern the creature's intentions.
Roll 7+7= 14
"Does anybody know what the hell that thing is?"
OOC: I will make an attack with my rapier.
Edit: die roller not working, so here are my rolls
Atk: I rolled a D20+ 18 mod,and hit a 32 AC
Dam: 1d6+2, and did 6 damage
[OOC: @blackthornes: You mean you attack the face, or you make another attack at the illithid shadow? If you mean the face, how are you going to reach it? The ceiling is about two yards above your head.]
WHO ARE YOU TO CALL ME?
Ophelia shudders at the voice she hears. She makes a mental note of the name the illithid mentioned....Irranumoranniloth, she thinks, then stowes it away for later investigation.
This next round, still for a few more rounds in her werebear form (11 total rounds she can go in werebear form), she goes to the Masked Gnoll and tries to shake him out of what she believes to be some kind of stupor caused by a spell or some such, since he is just standing there and counting and seemingly not helping or reacting much to what is going on around him.
She is going to grab him and shake him by the shoulders untill he looks her in the eye and talks to her.
SO, opposed grapple check for Ophelia vs. the Masked Gnoll:
In my Werebear form I have a +22/+15 for my grapple since my strength went up by 16 points for a total of 31 STR and my mod went up to a 10 modifier for the 31 STR.
SO:
I rolled 1 D20 and got a 13+22 for first grapple attempt=35
and in case I don't get him on the first attempt (I have two attacks):
I rolled 1 D20 and got a 15+15 for second grapple attempt=30
OOC: I hope this post makes sense. I can undertand it, but that doesn't mean everyone can, heh. Oh well.... magic is a flittering thing.
-Ophelia
OOC: I'd make jokes about Cthulhu IC, but Ohalian wouldn't know who Cthulhu is (though he probably would know of his world's analog).
Brilliant. First we get attacked by the tentacle man for being in the same shop when he decided to pull a heist, then we get attacked by his ghost, and now he's summoned some Elder Horror or something? What the fuck? It's like the fucking Carlan Barrens or something. Could today get any worse?
Probably. I hope there's nothing expensive in that cupboard...
Ohalian then proceeds to continue double tapping at the sodding ghost (and will listen for any tinkling noises that might indicate anything expensive and ceramic breaking in the cupboard).
Like an excited child, the masked gnoll begins to count faster.
"6-7-8-9-10!" He jumps up onto the counter and roars "READY OR NOT, HERE I..." When he sees ophelia rushing at him.
First grapple- 18+20= 38
"This is much better then tag OR hide and go seek!" He says.
OOC: Since he talked at you, is the second grapple still neccesary?
[OOC: Just as a side note - I love you people and your posts! You're fantastic I have a looooot of fun reading your stuff! ]
@ the Dread Pirate Swan:
He still is not making sense to her, so yeah, a second grapple check ONLY IF he doesn't focus on what she says.
Ophelia says to the Masked Gnoll, "We are not playing games right now, hun! You have to get it together! There is an illithid's ghost and a portal open above our heads! Get it together!"
Let me know how he responds, and we'll go from there as to whether the second grapple check is nessesary, ok?
The masked Gnoll suddenly goes ridged, and there is something about his voice thats seems... differant. More controlled.
"That Illithid Ghost, as you call it, is clearly within Akin's capacity to handle. And while the portal itself is of little concern to us, the creature that our incorporeal companion seems to have called is something of import. However, this creature seems to be beyond our power to intimidate or control, therefore leaving our best chances of a peaceful relationship with it in the hands of Ian, or so it would seem. After all, he managed to collect most of us into a well balanced group with little more than a smile and a few gold coins applied where nessecary. My ability to be of any help in either of the aforementioned situations is limited, and is more likly to cause a disturbance then help in any way. So, why not play a friendly game of hide and go seek instead? Its certainly more enjoyable."
The masked Gnoll shudders, and backs up. "I found you Ophelia! Now its your turn to count. Whee!" He says back to his normal self, as he jumps off the counter.
OOC: A sudden bout of lucidity or the appearence of a split personality? Is the Masked Gnoll's child- like nature real, or an elabrote ruse? Will Ian mess things up and lose the Masked Gnolls trust forever? Tunde in for next weeks episode!

Ophelia bursts out a smile for her new friend. She says simply, "Yes, you are right. But I cannot play games right now, I have some business to take care of."
She turns her back to the Masked Gnoll and looks up at the portal above them. "Ian," she says, "You or A'kin have any idea how this portal key works?" As she says this she takes the portal key out of her belt pouch and does a Read Magic spell on it to try to get some kind of insight as to what the key word is or what the key gestures are to close the portal with it.
OOC: There is no need for a second grapple on the Masked Gnoll, he satisfied her worry with confidence, for now.
"HAhahahaha!" The Masked Gnoll yells gleefully. "Now I'M IT!"
OOC: I rolled a 9, + 20. So 29.
For damage, I rolled 1 and 3. So, 4 +12. 16.
