After using his healing wand

After using his healing wand to stop the bleeding on Ha'kan'a's injured leg the slender warlock offers his slight shoulders for support. With a smile Kirath says  "Let me assist you Brother. With this whole place coming down  I would prefer a view from above instead of in it eh?"

A faint glow pulses from a central crystal in Du’minh’s armor, followed by a sharp intake of breath from its owner. He stirs and shakes his head, feeling his body responding once again to his will and the overloaded mind blast beginning to wear off.

“Thank you, brother.” He nods to Ar’dru while regaining his bearings. “I can… manage now.”

Once Du’minh has recovered he takes a quick glance around, and if there’s no one else in need of assistance he moves to the front to lead for the exit.

“Is everyone accounted for? Then let’s get out of here, immediately.”

Ar'dru gives Du'minh a friendly nod before moving to assist Kirath with Ha'kan'a. Though his face darkens at Ii's disrespectful tone he says nothing, trusting in Du'minhs judgement.

"If I may cousin?" Ar'dru wraps one massive arm around the injured gith, almost lifting him off his foot "Perhaps your knowledge of the palace layout would be better placed at the fore of the group?"

When the githyanki reach

When the githyanki reach the surface again, they see that the yuan-ti have mustered a response to the raid.  The garden entrance to the dungeons is around one side of the slaves' quarters, and from here they can see archers in the towers of the outer walls.  The iron githyanki astral skiffs are mostly proof against these, but the yuan-ti archers are skilled and numerous, and a few manage to find the arrow slits on the sides from which the githwarriors fire.  Hundreds of soldiers move along the walls.  Moments after they come to the surface, Gy-Nath, who was on point, barks "Graith!"

There are a large number of soldiers streaming into the gardens.  Some whip bucket-and-shovel brigades from the slave barracks toward the burning south end of the gardens.  The gardens fairly teem with almost-human yuan-ti soldiers.

Four astral skiffs slow to a hover overhead.  Kirath recieves a telepathic message, and quickly relays it to the others; the skiffs can take two or thre githyanki each.

[ We needto decide who's going with who.  Gy Nath will D-door Sark'ja and Kitiir,  but K'tch needs help {plot point} as does Ha'kana {ditto} If not enough folks have D-door, Gy will come back , but it'll take a couple of rounds.  Also, if Ar'dru or Kirath fly up to the skiffs, they are exposed to attack ]

While the group remains in the torture chambers, the psion seems unusually distracted, as though her mind were elsewhere. When Ii'Jyka'Vaar addresses the Rish-i-Chal in that particular manner, however, Ya'shenn sends the knight an odd look.

Ya'shenn's eyes widen at the appearance of such an overwhelming number of enemies -- but at least this group enjoys the assistance of the Band of Copper. Once Kirath relays his message, the psion is quick to accept Du'minh's offer of teleportation -- though she feels thoroughly selfish for doing so. After the chaos of today's rrakkma, and after the entire group had been -- as the Git'ribani have it -- jacked by the portal, it would be unfortunate if the group were to become separated yet again, so...

[Any third person for teleportation is fine with Ya'shenn.]

At the mention of the Band

At the mention of the Band of Copper from Ya'shenn Kirath's face falls and a haunted look takes the light from his eyes. The light then comes back again with the burn of hate as he looks upon the Graith that protected the Enemy. He mutters "You will all burn for your transgressions"

With no thought of his own safety the tiny warlock of the Copper Ring takes flight and brandishes his wand of fireballs and lets loose a charge from the slender piece of wood with a scream of the command word "Inferno!" He aims it at the largest group of yuan-ti hoping to kill as many as possible before dimension dooring into the first available skiff.

Before they depart for the skiff, Du'minh alone hears the psion's voice in his mind.  Ya'shenn's mental voice is mild enough, though the Rish-i-Chal can sense some tension as well -- most likely due to the huge number of yuan-ti soldiers in the area.

Du’minh observes the rest

Du’minh observes the rest of his companions depart for their escape route; Gy-Nath with Sark’ja and Kitiir, Kirath on his own, Ar’dru with Ha’kan’a, and Na’rai with K’tch. Despite the hail of arrows drawn towards their vicinity from Kirath's assault the Rish does not seem to fully act on the urgency of the situation, as would be expected from his usual vigilance.

He does, however, have a look revealing his principles to be weighed against... other considerations, when he faces the psion.

~I will not take matters of honor lightly, Ya’shenn. That’s part of who I am, of what I am… But there is no denying your insight. These are different times and recent events have opened my eyes to new values.

Du’minh turns to fix a glare at Ii’Jyka’Vaar.

Ar'dru glances back as he

Ar'dru glances back as he shoots upward, seeing his companions vanish to the relative safely of the skiffs. He steels himself and plunges through the barrage of arrows that surrounds his chosen skiff.

Though his Gith made armour is sturdy and his scales thick the sheer volume of arrows ensure that Ar'dru is badly mauled during his flight. Breathing heavily he beats his now tattered wings to aid his rise as the sting of the impacts is replaced by a comfortable numbness. Shaking his head and growling Ar’dru falls back into the mental exercises drilled into him during in his rearing. He focuses on the individual muscles required to perform the flight drawing fresh blood to the area and purging his body of outside influences with the fire of his will.

Ar’dru reaches the skiff in a state of absolute calm despite his injuries. Looking around for the nearest commanding officer he stands stiffly upright and enquires “Status?”

Now inside the skiffs, the

Now inside the skiffs, the githyanki have a higher view of the situation.  Looking or shooting out the arrow slits is somewhat dangerous at first, but less so once the skiffs get underway.  The githyanki see that the palace is in a walled compound with several buldings.  The entire compound sits atop a prominant rise within the city around, but it is not the only one.  Similar palace compounds dot the hills of Hlondeth, which is a very large city.  The githyanki here knew exactly which yuan-ti nobles were harboring the illithid.

The sun is just beginning to break on the horizon.  It is less than an hour after the githyanki assault began, and it can be seen that the state of alarm has just reached the city itself.  Two dozen githyanki skiffs still circle the compound, firing arrows, their alchemical grenades and pots already spent.  The gitribani are lucky, there is barely enough room in those skiffs that carried pots instead of warriors for the increased number of githyanki.  That, and Kirath is informed that there were five casualties, though the bodies were recovered.

The skiffs widen their circles, and begin to move off toward the open sea to the southeast.  Just as they do, six larger ships dip below the clouds.  They begin dropping fire pots on the yuan-ti compound.  Lots of them.  These flame pots do not eplode with large bangs, but rather shatter where they hit, spaying the area with a dark red liquid that quickly starts burning as soon as it contacts air.  The flames do not produce much smoke, and the liquid is runny.  It does its job.  Less than a minute after the first pass, every building in the compound is on fire.  The astral brigs come in for a second pass, hitting those few areas less affected, and spreading the fire to the surrounding city as well.  Meanwhile, the skiffs fly over the center of the city, near a prominant temple-pyramid ...

[At this point Kirath has to make a decision, will he issue the order to drop all the illithid and yuan-ti heads taken?  It would be best to leave no doubt as to why Hlondeth was attacked, but the order will not be popular, and especially unpopular with the PCs who have taken heads here as well as in Sigil.  The PCs then have to decide if they are going to chuck the other heads they've taken.  The more illithid heads hit the streets of Hlondeth, the stronger the message, and technicly since Gy-Nath symbolicly gave ultimate command to Kirath, the order would actually include all illithid heads.  Basicly, I'm setting up a twist of inter-party conflict, but I don't want to railroad you.  Kirath can issue the order ... or not.  The PCs can obey ... or not.]

Kirath through his mindlink

Kirath through his mindlink with Geb (the raid coordiantor) gives the order to drop all illithid and yuan-ti heads taken in the raid. "To show these Graith and all others who deem to harbor the Enemy of our people will result in total eradication!"

With a self satisfied sigh Kirath watches the enclave of the yuan-ti that were protecting the midflayers go up in flames. He smiles and gives the order to go back to base.

A rain of heads come from

A rain of heads come from the skiffs.  They are about 25% illithid, the rest being yuan-ti nobles.  They mostly bounce down the sides of the temple-pyramid.  Bells ring throughout the city.  Kirath, his order given, fades into unconsiousness as one of his warriors transports him to one of the brigs for treatment of his poisoned wound.  Just before he goes out, he recieves a report; bells are ringing throughout the city, and the compounds of the other noble houses are coming to life.

The dawn is a red one in Hlondeth.  A great rising stain of smoke comes from the burning palace.  The githyanki pilots form up after droping the heads.  They head west, over the port and towards the sea, instead of the way they came.  The yuan-ti of Hlondeth, now sturred up like a nest of snakes poked repeatedly, show that they are defenceless.  Great spears, fired by balistas, shoot up from the fortifications by the port.  Several hit, with enough force to rend the steel armor of the skiffs, though the ones that hit the brigs break.

A a balista bolt the size of a lance penetrates the skiff in which Ya'shenn and K'tch ride.  In an incredible stroke of luck, it pierces the side of the pilot's head, killing him instantly.  Ya'shenn must quickly push his lifeless body aside, move the spear enough to take his place, and take control of the skiff.  As she grasps the control skull she is suddenly far more aware of the surroundings.  She can look in any direction as if she were the skiff itself, and her cairvoyant powers, already spent from the battles in Illithid House, are recharged.  She sees that the yuan-ti do indeed have their own air cavalry.  A dozen war wyverns with riders rise from one of the noble compounds.  They are soon joined by two dozen more from other compounds.  Though the skiffs can outrun them easily, the wyverns are slowly gaining on the brigs.  With the brigs is also the skiff damaged from ramming the stone gazeebo, and it makes a very inviting target.

More volleys come at the githyanki, but they are soon out of range, over the Vilhoon Reach.  About fifty miles wide at this point, the other side is not visible.  Ya'shenn is contacted by Kirath's coordinator [will edit name].  She informs the fleet that Kirath has been poisoned and is unresponsive.  She herself assumes command of the fleet and orders the skiffs to defend the brigs and the damaged skiffs.  The brigs form a three-point defensive pocket around the damaged skiffs (the gazeebo-crasher and two more that took multiple ballista hits).  The maneuvers slow the fleet down slightly, and the wyvern-riding yuan-ti, bent on revenge, urge their mounts to catch up quickly.

[DM - Skiffs' occupancy is thus; Ya'shenn, Du, and Ii / Gy-Nath, Sark'ja, and Kitiir / Na'rai, Ktch, and Ha'kan'a / Ar'dru by himself ]

[2 PCs can fire out a skiff, but not at the same target unless one comes out the front/top hatch and exposes himself to returning fire.  The wyverns outnumber the skiffs by about 2 to 1.]

[Let me know if I'm abusing the powers of the control skull. Ya'shenn intends to make thorough use of them!]

Once she has the use of the control skull, Ya'shenn extends her (much-expanded) psionic senses to take a clairvoyant 'look around,' keeping track of the yuan-ti wyvern-riders -- not to mention ballistae. She makes brief telepathic contact with each member of their informal warband, mainly to make sure that everyone is well -- or, in the case of Kirath, not.

'Azure' wrote:

Ya'shenn sends to the coordinator alone: ~I have some small healing ability and may be able to assist, once the situation allows. To do so would leave this vessel without a pilot, however. Ya'shenn is not eager to expose herself to yuan-ti poison (much less that of their pet snakes), especially in her nearly drained state, but it is something of an occupational hazard for a psi-healer.

As the yuan-ti prepare to attack, the psion sets out certain objects, intending them for use by either herself, the Rish-i-Chal or the knight, should they be useful: the alchemist's fire, the psi-grenade, and one of her crossbows. Ya'shenn devotes a portion of her consciousness to providing Du'minh and Ii'Jyka'Vaar with a more thorough 'picture' of the battlefield than the narrow arrow-slits provide, with the specific intent of aiding the two warriors in more precise targeting (without overwhelming them with data). As she pilots the skiff, Ya'shenn concentrates on defending the skiffs and brigs as ordered, providing her siblings with good angles for bowshots as much as possible.

Should she have the time and mental energy to spare among these other tasks, Ya'shenn selects a likely yuan-ti rider and reaches unkindly into its reptilian mind, strongly projecting hesitation and self-doubt into the warrior's emotional state. In a particularly cold and authoritative mind-voice she sends to it:

~You yuan-ti are brave enough, but fools you remain! You, who so blindly serve the mind flayers! The illithid respect no one! Don't you know what they will do to you once they have used you up -- once they feel even a momentary hunger?

She sends a thoroughly detailed mental image of mind flayers feasting on the living brains of yuan-ti.

[If the control skull allows it, Ya'shenn will establish mindlinks with all (conscious) party members. Telempathic Projection on a likely yuan-ti, with the goal being to at least unsettle him/her thoroughly. The control skull allows Ya'shenn to telepathically taunt opponents, right?]

[OOC : The control skull

[OOC : The control skull allows unlimited contact, but only with the pilots of other vessels, either in sight or "well known".  It enhances Ya'shenn's clairvoyance, essentially giving her back her daily uses for free.   Anything else that could be done for free a number of times a day, like sending missives, is completely free.  So, since Ya'shenn is a psion with missive, can give sendings, but not make suggestions, or set up full-fledged mindlinks.  She can describe the situation outside the skiff to Ii and Du verbally though, so nothing you described can't be done.  As for doing other things like handing out weapons, etc, she can do that too.  Just tell the skiff "move ahead" then let go the skull.  You can't both pilot the skiff and do anything else in the same round, though.]

[The Wyverns' speed is greater than the astral brigs' by 10 ft per round.  They started off behind the githyanki ships, so they will catch up within sight of Hlondeth.  Ya'shenn has enough non-combat rounds to do all that you described.]

[OK, no mindlinks then.  I don't think she needs to burn a use of clairvoyance yet -- just using the normal (extra)sensory abilities of the control skull to look around.]

Edit:

Ii'Jyka sheats her Nagamaki blade, and draws the trowing hammer, but keeps herself away for now from the arrow sliths, as her range is much, much less then that of a conventional arrow.. so she bides her time...

Though taken back by the improbable head impalement of their pilot, Du’minh does not think twice about Ya’shenn seizing control and fully exploits the information she feeds them.

He kneels down by an arrowslit that gives him a good vantage point for the incoming wyverns, and nocks an arrow on his bowstring to be fired as soon as the creature is within reasonable range.

The Rish-i-Chal hears inside his mind:  ~Easily.  You wish something sent to them?

[I'm assuming that this is the case.  Even if she doesn't have contact with them directly for some reason, Ya'shenn should be able to have a message relayed to them.]

“If one of these beasts closes in, I’m taking a little stroll outside to get some fresh air,” he replies with a wink.

“I’d rather avoid being shot out of the sky by friendly fire from heavy war machines if I were to, say, preoccupy myself with… wildlife domestication.”

OOC

If there’s any indication that a wyvern will close in on their skiff, Du’minh switches for the Arbiter and moves to the hatch to prepare for a particular suicidal stunt.

Ar'dru pulls out the heads

Ar'dru pulls out the heads that he has taken so far and, after removing any jewellery and one fang from the noble he casts them out at the pyramid. Upon spotting the oncoming wyverns he lays out his throwing axes, knives and incendiaries within easy reach and makes ready to attack once the creatures come within range.

"Are there healing supplies on board?" he calls out to the pilot.

To guess from Ya'shenn's expression, as she concentrates on the control skull, the psion appears to actually be giving serious consideration to the Rish-i-Chal's suggested tactic of 'wyvern domestication.'  Du'minh hears once again in his mind:

~Be mindful of poison under such circumstances.  I will relay the message.

Through the mental connection, Du'minh can sense the psion's concern for his continued good health.

[Ya'shenn will relay any communications needed to prevent problems with friendly fire, presumably through Kirath's coordinator.  Ya'shenn has two teleports remaining, so she might even be able to teleport Du'minh if he were to be poisoned, or anything... But it would be quite a stunt.]
