Arriving outside the door

Arriving outside the door Ar'dru sets Du'minh gently down on one side of the door before priming his grenade.

Sword poised at the ready he flings open the door, scanning the room beore tossing in the grenade and preparing to close it again.

The uppermost floor of the

The uppermost floor of the offices is smaller than the rest, with a single window offering a view of the entire Packing House. Evidently, this is how Bliss obseved all the action from the beginning. There are no catwalks up this high, and Ar'dru must use both hands to carry Du'minh. Therefore he cannot do so and ready a genade. (Assuming the duthka'gith sets the Rish-i-chal down on the reminants of the upper catwalk. Du'minh meets the rest of the party coming up the stairs as Ar'dru, levitating, opens up his pack. [Ar'dru can ready any of the remaining incendiaries he wishes, just in case it IS a trap, to chuck into the shattered window.] )

Daraz hangs back as a rear-guard and support at Gy-Nath's orders.

The rest of the githyanki climb the last flight of stairs to find the door ajar. They rush in ...

Bliss could not flee. Unlike the others, who wore punishment collars but wandered the Packing House otherwise freely, Bliss's collar is chained to a desk. There are several abacusses and a book-case full of large ledgers in the small office. Bliss itself sits in an uncomfortable-looking chair behind the desk, and just behind Bliss stands a horror straight from a nightmare.

The second illithid glares at the entering githyanki with its one good eye. The other is just an empty socket, and indeed the entire left side of its face is horribly mutilated by acid burns. The two tenticles on that side are little more than stumps. In its right hand is a meat cleaver, while in its left is a large spoon, both slick with blood.

At the githyankis' entrance, Bliss looks at them pleadingly, but it is too late. With a deft sweep of the cleaver, Pig-Killer chops at the crown of Bliss's skull. The pacifistic illithid screeches in pain, pain which does not subside quickly, for Pig-Killer's swipes do not kill its victim. The maimed illithid casts a hateful glare at its mortal enemies and sends telepathicly with such strenth that it makes their teeth ache.

~ Do you enjoy irony? We have plenty of it in here! I was named the Pig-Killer for I was this place's original inmate. It was aquired for my torture, to consume only dull-witted livestock. Now, after years of confinement in the collar, I find myself finally and joyously free! Yet so maimed am I that I cannot do that which I most desire, to tear out a brain and consume its succulent sentience. This one, my opposite, who refused to consume unwilling sentients, will now experience my greatest joy and its own greatest antithema: the taste of illithid brain, its own!

Pig-killer dives in greedily with the bloody spoon. Bliss's screams pierce the air, and that is not all. Pig-Killer telempathicly projects its insane, sadistic rapture outward.

[DC 17 will save, those that fail are frozen in horror as they try to close off their minds. Those that succeed can shut Pig-Killer out and act. Ar'dru, if he's levitating outside the window, does not need to save]

Depravity. It had always

Depravity. It had always been a defining word when it came to the Great Enemy. The last few days had confirmed and exceeded that idea, but it would seem that today would be a downhill tour in true illithid colours.

Du’minh feels sick to his stomach and an immense desire to spit, as if he could taste the brain matter himself. It's too much for him and the Rish leans away in horrid disgust.

Ya'shenn would not have

Ya'shenn would not have believed it possible to feel the slightest shred of empathy for a mind flayer being slowly devoured by another -- and yet...

She does not have to be a telepath herself to sense Bliss's helplessness and terror. How many gith and graith brains had been consumed at leisure, by illithid, in just that way....? -- but the taste of the mind flayer's brain is too much for her stomach. She'd been able to keep the nausea in check when Ii'Jyka'Vaar had sadistically... ugh... but now...

The psion promptly loses her breakfast, vomiting into the nearest corner of the room until nothing but bile comes up. She might want to put an end to Pigkiller's obscene cerebrophagic feast, but for now, she is as overwhelmed as the others by the taste of illithid brains and the ghaik's twisted espers of pleasure.

Gy-Nath springs forward and

Gy-Nath springs forward and slashes at Pig-Killer, but the canibalistic illithid is incredibly fast. Gy's first swing misses as Pig-killer ducks. He chases the illithid around the room, only managing to give it a shallow cut in the upper arm with a follow-up swing. The action does, however, interrupt Pig-Killer's meal and break its concentration. The other githyanki are now free from Pig-Killer's influence.

Ya'shenn is much less dismissive of the threat presented by the mad, brain-hungry illithid than the knight seems to be. Once she is again in control of her stomach, the psion draws the graith-forged longsword and takes a swing at the ghaik, if only to render it more vulnerable to further attacks from Gy-Nath and Ar'dru.

As the revolting sensation fades, Du’minh regains his bearings and swells with anger. He springs forward and joins his allies in bringing down Pig-Killer with earth-shattering rage, though he just barely maintains enough control to cut in with a flanking maneuver with one of his fellow warriors to lock down the fleeting flayer.

Cornered in the small

Cornered in the small office with several githyanki out for revenge, Pig-killer is beset by blades (and a flail) on all sides. It is pummeled and chopped from several directions at once, but the mad illithid does not go down easy. The wounds it recieves look fatal, but with the unnatural strenth of the insane, still it struggles on. Now that the githyanki are clustered close, it releases a final, desprate burst of psionic energy.

[Mind blast to all except Ii, who, messing around with Bliss, is out of the arc. DC 17 will save ... again ... this time to avoid being stunned.]

Perhaps the horror of one

Perhaps the horror of one illithid feasting on another -- with a spoon -- has temporarily eroded Ya'shenn's normally strong will. The psion ungracefully collapses as mind-fire sears through her voluntary nervous system, scrambling neurons thoroughly. First the reflexive vomiting, now this... It is an unpleasant, helpless feeling, for all that Ya'shenn is fairly sure that this illithid will not have the opportunity to make her brain into a delicious repast.

Even after Pig-Killer

Even after Pig-Killer finally has collapsed with his share of broken bones and organs, it takes a second or two before Du’minh stops his strikes. Eventually he calms down and lowers the Arbiter, then looks about for an overview of the state of the office. He grimaces at the sight of Bliss’ head rolling on the floor with its skull cleaved open and partially-eaten brain, still unable to completely shake off the experience.

The Rish notices how others await him to do what is expected. He sighs and draws his ceremonial ring-dagger, then decapitates Pig-Killer’s head but leaves it on the floor.

“The head is yours, brother Gy-Nath. You have lead us well into the den of the Enemy.”

Du’minh turns his back on the corpse and sets to searching the office for documentation or anything else that could tell them more about Illithid House operations.

Nearly half a minute passes

Nearly half a minute passes before Ya'shenn is able to rise.  Eventually, she does so, retrieving her blade and using it for leverage as she stands.  Her expression reflects some... embarrassment, first because she normally laughs at mind blasts more often than not, and second for losing control of her stomach.  Once she feels more recovered from the combination of nausea and neuronal chaos, she wipes the longsword on Pigkiller's garments and sheathes it.

She makes the effort to examine Bliss' collar, though based on Pigkiller's mocking commentary, the Qualith inscription will probably read something like 'illithid vegetarian.'  Once that is done, the psion checks on K'tch and the others.  For the moment, this area seems free of both thralls and illithid, and Gy-Nath would probably not mind an update on the status of the second quasi-warband.

The inscription on Bliss's collar actually reads, simply, "Conduct unbecoming an Illithid."

K'tch and his companions are moving through another undersigil lair.  When he senses Ya'shenn's attention, he reports that they are headed for one of the portals leading to the Prime Palace.  They expect a good amount of resistance before they arrive, but their intimate knowlege of Illithid House's portals has served them well and allowed them to elude any trully effective counter-attacks originating in the hubs.

Once she has given her report, Gy-Nath calls the group to order to coordinate their next portal-jump.

"Now, siblings, for our next phase.  From here, we head down into the drains.   There we will find a portal to Mudshow's lair.  We are unlikely to encounter any illithid there other than Mudshow itself, as I got the impression that the illithid dislike using the area dispite its wealth of portals.  Once we deal with the Mudshow itself, we will find a portal that leads to the sewers under the Prime Palace.  Once there, we will meet up with K'tch's group.  Being on a prime world instead of in Sigil, we need no longer fear forming a strikeforce large enough to attract The Lady's attentions.  This is good, because we should hit the Palace hard.  Very hard.  We have done well in disrupting Illithid House's operations in the Hive Brothel and here in the Packing House, but these were high-profit yet smaller scale operations.  The Palace, on the other hand, brings an entire Prime nation under the ghaiks' control through their entrallment of the imperial family.  Ideally, we should not leave a single one alive.  I know not how many ghaik we may encounter there, we will certainly slay any we do, but our primary mission will be to disrupt their control.  In our favor, we will not likely meet considerable resistance, as the guards surround the Palace but few are allowed within to mingle with the ruling family.  Still, our strike should be as swift as completeness allows, as there is a possibility at least that an entire army of pawns stands ready to protect their rulers."

[Gy-Nath places Pig-Killer's head in a bag, though he muses that due to the extensive and horrific acid-scars, is likely to throw it at the first illithid he sees for intimidation purposes.  This gives him another idea, and he suggests hiding Pig-Killer's body so that the illithid will fear that the canibal has escaped.  Bliss, since it was killed by Pig-Killer and not a githyanki, will not be taken as a trophy.

There are plenty of documents, but since they are of a financial nature, the githyanki can only make so much sense out of them.  They can find names of supliers and other businesses the Packing House did business with, but these are all legit graith merchants, who likely had little idea who they were really dealing with.

Once they search the offices, the githyanki find a heavy safe with the cash-on-hand, but they can neither open nor move it.  However, from their experience at the Brothel, they can be fairly confidant that the workers will loot it when they return, and Illithid House will get nothing.

The githyanki who mind-linked with Grazz know the layout of the Palace fairly well.  The portal from Mudshow opens into the sewers, which connect to a bath house where the illithid clean up and put on fresh robes.  The illithid pretty much have the run of the place, since the imperial family are all long-term thralls.

As the DM creates more details on the Palace, you will be informed.  The PCs "already know" the layout, but the DM hasn't completelt made it up yet.]

In our favor, we will not likely meet considerable resistance, as the guards surround the Palace but few are allowed within to mingle with the ruling family. Still, our strike should be as swift as completeness allows, as there is a possibility at least that an entire army of pawns stands ready to protect their rulers."

“If K’tch’s squad will arrive at the Palace before us, I would request for them to gather what minimal-risk intel they can until we join them. Specifically, on two key tactical points I think we ought to consider securing if our assault does not turn out as swift and clean as intended.”

“Though the Palace may hold relatively few forces within, there are likely to be a significant strength of royal guards stationed outside. If those are mustered and march on us before we can finish the job, we risk being overrun. Thus, I suggest we conquer the main palace gate; raise any drawbridge, lower any portcullis, and sabotage both mechanisms. That should buy us enough time to avoid dealing with an army.”

“Second, many of our numbers are injured and I cannot imagine K’tch’s group having an easier time. I suggest we locate and raid a source of healing supplies in the Palace – there might be a depot or infirmary where these resources are kept. The illithids might even have a stock of crystal capacitors for their psionics in such a supply depot – that could come in handy for Ya’shenn and our other psi-users and take it out of the Enemy’s hands.”

Du’minh makes effort not to sound as if he’s rivaling Gy-Nath’s command. Considering the unconventional nature of their band, the Rish hopes the captain will take his words merely as suggestions on strategy rather than a challenge to authority.

Even if she doesn't share in Pigkiller's... special diet, the notion of so many weak-minded graith to dominate -- or even to reintroduce to free will -- is a pleasant one.

"I have some healing resources to spare. Using them will further drain my strength, of course." Ya'shenn looks over each of the others -- particularly Ar'dru, who had been separated from the rest of the group -- trying to get a sense of how each of them is faring. Given that she still feels queasy, she wonders about their mental condition, as well, after being guests at Pigkiller's eating performance.

[Approximate % HP of each party member? I think that Du'minh is about 20 HP below maximum and Gy-Nath is about 32-35 below maximum. I'm not sure about Ar'dru, and Ii has HP regeneration.]

Ar'dru is in pretty bad

Ar'dru is in pretty bad shape, 12 hp remaining, 20 hp of that damage is subdual though so I might be able to reduce that some other way (like eating some of the meat and icing his jaw and groin for a while). I realise OH&S probably wasn't a big priority for the Illithid but there should be some sort of makeshift healing supply in this setting (not magical but bandages and such-like).

"Speaking of which..." On

"Speaking of which..." On a mental level, Ya'shenn finds that she must overcome a certain revulsion at the thought of touching a duthka'gith. Never mind that Ar'dru is obviously a skillful warrior and implacable foe of the illithid. She tries to focus on that and not on what the half-breed's odd, scaly skin must feel like.

The psion approaches Ar'dru and raises her hand, but does not actually touch him as yet. Out of the entire group, Ya'shenn is least familiar with the half-dragon.

[If Ar'dru agrees to be healed, Empathic Transfer for 11 hp, followed by Body Adjustment.]

0 Bonus for Body Adjustment to do
I rolled 3d6+0, the result is 13.

Ar'dru inclines his head

Ar'dru inclines his head slightly at Ya'shenns offer, but sensing her hesitance remains reserved.

"Thank you cousin I do not take your gift lightly and will use it well against our foes."

At least this duthka'gith is well-spoken.
Come now, it's not as though touching a half-breed will give you parasites, or a foul disease...

Ya'shenn wonders which egg-clutch Ar'dru had come from prior to his arcane transformation, or indeed whether he had undergone the transformation at all: he might simply have two duthka'gith parents. She reaches up and touches the duthka'gith lightly. While his wounds are painful, they are likely less excruciating overall than acid burns. I wonder how the kith'rak is holding up.

Gy-Nath listens quietly to

Gy-Nath listens quietly to Du'minh's suggestions.  "You have a good tactical sense, brother.  K'tch's group includes some very skilled intel-gatherers, not the least of whom is K'tch himself.  The idea of sealing the gate also has merit.  The only problem with it is that the gate to the outside world was one area the illithid did not visit, and so we have no idea of its layout.  Still, at the very least we should have someone there to warn the rest of an impending attack by the graith guards."

ooc: I took her head as a trophy-something, if u read correctly... so she is already headless, I killed her by beheading her, yes she might have been dying at that time, , but the killing blow was by me...

[Well, Gy-Nath isn't going to come out and say anything, but he will give Ii a disapproving look if she takes Bliss's head as a trophy.  The "victory" over Bliss was not hard-fought, and so taking its head is not very honorable.  A head should mean something.  Besides, the idea of a half-eaten illithid brain being found, but the illithid hanibal lector's body coming up missing, should make the rest of the illithid in Sigil very nervous.  Did Gy suggest hiding Pig-Killer's body?  I think he did.]

“Your approval is greatly appreciated, brother. We will know more once we arrive, so let us not keep the ghaiks waiting. I am ready to pay Mudshow a visit and I certainly cannot wait to leave this nightmarish scene behind us.”

Du’minh focuses his mind on Sight’s memory of passage through the drains in the Packing House to the portal that will lead them onwards. He takes care to memorize any act or object the ulitharid used as portal key and any potential precautions it took throughout its travels.

OOC

Du’minh is at about 60% hp so he’s good for now.
