The ogre doesn't look convinced. He cocks his head to the side as looks Ar'dru up and down. "I duhknowz ... hyu don' look like hyuz got meat t'sellz. Maybeez smartz? Maybeez hyuz sellin'. Maybee hyuz buyin'. But maybeez hyu iz looking fer troublez, ya? Pigkilla sez gizz be lookin fer troublez, wedder deyz be yankiz 'r zereez. Cept fer a few what sellz smartz." He taps his chin with the back of the cleaver as he considers, "Hyuz come wit me, but I'z gonna keep me eyez on hyu."

The drover, seeing his case for more money is going by the wayside, tries to press his rights. "Now just a minute! You don't want to pay a fair price, I'll have my men drive this herd somewhere else! I'll get at least ten percent more right down the road!"

"HAR HAR HAR! Ya, hyuz just try an do dat! Pigkillaz got 'em now, berk!"

Indeed, the cattle march into the slaugterhouse in perfect step. The ogre pushes the stunned drovers out of the way and makes for the close side of the huge barn doors.

Just inside, Ardru sees the illithid wearing the wood and iron collar. There are gylphs of illithid writing carved into the wood, which is a huge square affair three feet to a side. The collar is locked onto the illithid's neck with stout padlocks, and it looks to weigh just shy of a hundred pounds. The illithid itself seems malnourished, but also somewhat robust, perhaps from the constant weight, perhaps from previous musculature.

"OY! OY, PIGKILLA! OY LOOKIE, HYUZ GOTZ VISITA!" The ogre yells over the sound of marching hooves, far louder that he needs to be, actually.

As soon as Pigkiller looks up and sees Ar'dru, the marching cattle stop. The illithid lets out an angry hiss, "What do you want here dutha'gith?" Pigkiller asks, burning the question into Ar'du's mind.

Ar'dru notices that the herd of cattle is still, silent, and watching him with a hundred vacant eyes.

[Evil DM reminds you that you're the one who wouldn't cover up that githyanki armor, and who chose the front door over the unguarded blood drain]

Du’minh crouches by the still-living hobgoblin and very carefully searches it so as to not disturb the knife in its back. He looks for any documentation about the brothel - names, a map, or other useful notes - or other material that may help them navigate faster through the complex.
While doing so he checks for marks of enthrallment, including tracing its scalp for tentacle scars and sliding back its eyelids to see if the pupils are dilated.

At the end, he takes a careful yet firm grip of the knife still imbedded while using his other hand to slap the guard awake. The Rish-i-Chal uses the slightest twist of the blade to remind the hobgoblin of its current state, hoping to push through the mental conditioning for a moment or two.

“You should be thankful, graith. Pain is a cleansing process that can help you focus through turmoil and corruption – I know your kin are disciplined warriors like the People, so even a barbarian like you might understand.”

Not to mention, does it wear the amethyst portal-key around its neck?

[DM - The only place Ya'shenn has seen this illithid before is in Sight's memories of passing through here. Even then, it seems Sight dealt with this one as little as possible, relying on the associates to fetch a ... (ahem) ... meal from among the greenskirts. Sense motive on the memory = Sight didn't like Lavendar much, though why not is unclear. Sense motive on Lavendar = Ya'shenn & Daraz are pulling it off, the illithid does not suspect, yet.

She also checks whether there is anything particularly interesting or unusual about these weapons -- any of drow make, anything that stands out?

The weapons in the vault are not the rusty, battered ones the hobgoblins have been using, but rather sharp, shiny, and likely enchanted. There are also several bows and a great many quivers of arrows. The hobs also put out their hands for a chance to wield these high-quality weapons.

[DM - The hob is actually naked.

There are no marks of enthrallment (only a few illithid know how do them anyway) CLUE ALERT FOR OBSERVANT PLAYERS

The hob has various torture scars, and is neutered (ow)]

The hobgoblin resists, but Gy-Nath (and Ii'jyka'vaar?) help Du'minh by holding the guard down, and holding his mouth shut to keep him from screaming out. A few minutes of this, and Du'minh realizes he is getting nowhere. Like as not, this hobgoblin was born into captivity and subsequently thoroughly broken, the removal of his (ahem) "goblinhood" being an act of torture Du'minh cannot hope to out-do.

Daraz is inwardly astonished that he has managed to get so close to an ilthilid. He contemplates taking a swing at the unprepared ghaik, but inwardly shudders at the memories of the last time he tried that tactic. Instead, he keeps a level face and hands out weapons to the hobgoblins as Ya'shnen hands them to him. Daraz looks to take the most powerful looking sword or two for himself, storing one and carrying the other in-hand.

Well, yes, but ...

Since you are not telepathic, you'd have to get her attention, then let her detect thoughts. It would take a very powerful psion (or special equipment like a crystal array) to "tap into" a telepathic conversation via mindlink. However, the illithid could easily detect thoughts too, and sensing psionics being used is not particularly difficult either.

Edit : However, it is actually quite simple for Daraz to fool even a mind-reading illithid. If he were to take off his ring of mind shielding, he would just have to start thinking about greenskirts, and Lavendar would think "Mr. Love" is just going to his happy place. In fact, that would probably be less conspicuous than the psionic dead-spot of Daraz's ring ...

"We're getting no where questioning this thrall." Gy-Nath draws his other dagger, which is curved, and cuts the thrall's spine at the base of the skull. "Ya'shenn has a ghaik by the portals deeper into Illithid House. There is another one somewhere down here as well. The Vaults

"OH!"

When three githwarriors teleport in, Lavendar hands a thrall a blade and bolts for the vault.

[DM - Master Lavendar will try to pull the vault door closed, pushing one of the thralls in too, and shut the door. The other thralls will attack the gith. Anybody with a high enough Initiative can get in the vault with L and lone hob, but the the githyanki who just teleported in will have to get past the other thralls' AoO's

[OK, assuming a few things here. First, that Ii doesn't skewer Ya'shenn before the psion's initiative comes up. Also assuming that it wasn't Lythe that Lavendar dragged into the vault with him. Yet. Anyway, Lythe-Ya'shenn was in the middle of taking weapons out of the arms closet, so she's right next to the door.]

Lythe-Ya'shenn is nearly bowled over by the quick-thinking illithid's reaction. Perhaps it's fear-adrenaline, or simple luck, that makes the psion's own reaction times so much faster than usual. She realizes almost instantly what the ghaik's likely plan is: Lock Itself in, and promptly scream for help. The vault door might not be an impediment to mind blasting, either.

Trying very hard not to think about illithids, tentacles, and enclosed spaces, Lythe-Ya'shenn switches whichever weapon she'd most recently pulled out of the arms closet to a two-handed grip. As she sees the vault door closing, she forcibly inserts the weapon sideways into the gap, intending to keep the door wedged open -- at least, long enough for her recently-arrived siblings to act.

The eyes of the 'drow' flick over to her brothers and sister, and Ya'shenn briefly ponders things such as, say, the likelihood of friendly fire.

"Siblings," she says quickly.

[I have no idea what kind of roll, if any, this would require. I figure she's still holding one of the melee weapons from the arms closet when this happens. If not, she can probably use her staff, but improvised weapons are more fun. She's not entering the vault (unless, of course, she gets dragged in), but trying to keep it wedged open another round or so.]

Ar'dru smiles slightly at the sight of the constricted Illithid, "I am simply delivering a message from my cousins. They are also in the butchers trade." Ar'dru reaches into his side pocket and draws out the flask that Kaz gave him and flings it at the Illithid before drawing his blade and diving for cover against a direct charge (if possible).

Ar'dru tosses the small glass vial at Pigkiller. It doesn't shatter, but the wax seal opens up, spilling the contents on the wooden planks locked to its neck. Some of the liquid splashes on Pigkiller's face, and it blinks and rubs its eye. Then Pigkiller looks back at Ar'dru with anger. It looks like Kaz gave Ar'dru a vial of plain water!

"Barmy sod! I should see you trampled under a hundred tons of beef! Water?!? Is this some kind of half-breed joke?!?" Pigkiller distains speaking aloud in favor of telepathicly whipping Ar'du with mental outrage. "Get out of here, you mibix. I've got work to ... AAAAAAA! THE PAIN!"

Suddenly the entire herd launches into a blind panic! Pigkiller claws at the eye that was hit by a spurt of liquid. Whatever was in the vial lay dorment for a few seconds before suddenly coming to life, sizzling and spurting. Where it hit the front of the wooden collar, it begins to eat away.

Ardru is mowed down by long-horned steers.

Lythe-Yashenn jumps into action, preventing the illithid from closing the iron door. Lavendar is so surprised by this that it loses grip on the door handle and falls backwards into the vault, landing on its arse. The illithid is very quick, though. It scrambles away from Ya'shenn toward a back corner of the vault.

"Great Illsensene! What are you doing?!?" Lavendar's eyes widen in fear. Everyone 'hears' the illithid telepathicly scream, "Kill them! Kill them all!"

Eyes narrowing at the sight of Lavendar, Du’minh quickly speeds alongside Ii’Jyka’Vaar with intent to cut the shortest route for the vault. Keeping in mind Ya’shenn’s revelation as the drow and Gy-Nath’s words on disguises, the Rish scans the crowd for Daraz – hoping to identify his guise through a magical aura around one of the pimps.

If his passage should be fully blocked by thralls, Du’minh seeks to literally bowl through opposing forces with his spiked elbow and shoulder plates at the front.

Only 2 pimps here, a drow who must be Ya'shenn, since she just tuned on her master, and Mr. Love, who must be Daraz, since the real Mr. Love has recently been killed.

There are 3 hob guards ouside the vault, all will get AoOs if the githwarriors rush the vault. 1 hob inside the vault will be attacking Lythe-Ya'shenn as per Lavendar's most recent orders.

The Packing House

Ar'dru is knokced down by dozens of paniced cattle. So, incidently, is the ogre with the meat cleaver. Ar'dru loses sight of the illithid, but Pigkiller's screams can be heard even over the sounds of the growing stampede. They continue for a few long moments before fading away in the background. Meanwhile, Ar'dru does his best to keep from being trampled into a fine, bloody paste.

[Nice DM is taking over for a bit, plus I don't have my books with me, so we'll say no damage from the stampede. Ar'dru can fend off the steers with his blade, but he cannot take any other action for a few rounds. Lucky for him, though, the cattle are no longer under Pigkiller's control. They got a big push of telempathic fear and pain, but they are now stampeding very well on their own, thank you. Unlucky for him (and just about everyone else in Sigil), he's lost sight of Pigkiller, and last he saw, Kaz's acid was doing a good job of eating through the heavy wood and iron collar that kept the illithid criminal from decerebrating humanoids.]

[Yes, by all means, start attacking cows  no really, I like the way you think, if the cows are going to panic, they might as well be afraid of Ar'dru.]

[By the way, ever se footage of a stampede? These cows don't have much room to move either. In their growing fear, they are trying to climb over one another. Ar'dru is being threated with a very sound squishing.]

[Dm candy - serious situations often can bring out the best in people. Ar'dru discovers that his time in Baator made his fires burn hotter. He can now use his breath weapon mutiple times. It'll work like this; instead of once per day for 6d10 damage, he can do 9 10-siders per day total, in any combination he desires. He's already let 6 go, so he still has 3 d10's left of fire in him. ]

[ Note that 1d10 of fire damage would be sufficient to cause painful burns to any in the area of effect, and at very least get the cows' attention. So would some psionic effects, I'm sure, though I'll have to check stomp (home now can do). The greatsword only convinces one cow at a time to back off, so though it's saving Ar'dru's life right now, that's the best he'll be able to do with that.]

[EDIT: Well, stomp'll knock some down sure, but it might also cause a whole pile of cows to come crashing down in the wrong direction. EvilDm would get a random roll to escape the closet.]

"The ghaik, the knight!" Kith'rak Gy-Nath barks in battle speak*. "Du, graith."

*BoG'r flavor note: An order for the knight to attack the illithid would be "Knight, ghaik". "The ghaik, the knight" is an order to all warriors that the knight, and only the knight, is to attack the illithid. It is a point of honor that the sentence has twice as many words to say.

Ii'jyka'vaar ducks under two hobgoblins swings and rushes the vault door. Beside her, Du'minh sets his shoulder and drives an spiked shoulder-plate into the sternum of one of the hobs [roll for damage. These hobs can take 10hp.] . The guard beside him takes a stab, a keen blade radiating magic pennetrates Du'minh's armor. two heartbeats later, the guard's grip on the weapon lets go as Gy-Nath, drawing his hand-and-a-half sword, cuts the top of the hobgoblin's skull off. He whips around and stabs the last of the trio of guards through the heart. As the guard spasms and dies, he elbows Daraz-Love in the face, taking him off his feet.

Inside the vault, the hobgoblin leaps to defend it's master, blocking Ii's way and hitting her with a sword made of red abyssal steel. Ii retaliates [ roll for damage] . Ya'shenn, after opening the door for Ii, catches a faint whisper of telepathy, which she suspects is in fact a full-minded scream from Lavendar, though she is not the intended recipient.

Though he does so with slight hesitation because it goes against his instincts, Du’minh nevertheless obeys the order and changes his target prioritization. Gritting his teeth and shrugging off the cut, he retaliates with a set of wide swings.

If no hobgoblins remain standing nearby after the flurry, Du'minh maneuvers towards the vault. He takes cover just next to the entrance from a potential psionic attack unleashed by Lavendar, unless he can make it all the way inside.

OOC
I mistyped on the last roll. Armor spikes does 1d6+5 dmg so it only comes up to 8 on that hob.

If possible, he maneuvers so as to put a bit distance between himself and Ii’Jyka’Vaar in the Vault, to lower chances of them both getting caught in a psionic attack.

The hob you smashed into is still alive, so you haven't really made it past him. Du'minh is therefore not in the vault yet, still outside. Edit- The hob he crashed into is still up .... but his counter-attac doesn't get throug Du's armor.

The hobs still get attacks this round, non-AoO, if they are still alive. Ii needs to cut the hob with the abyssal sword down before getting to Lavendar, so roll for damage. If you don't kill him with damage, he can counter-attack.

Quote:
dam from opponents: 10 (is the 10 dam from the Hob taking my 5/ +1 dam reduction in account?)
Yes, these hobs're now using the good weapons with +3 bonuses

3 Bonus for to do
I rolled 1d20+3, the result is 22.
7 Bonus for hob attacks Du to do
I rolled 1d20+7, the result is 20.

OOC
Sorry, I had thought the AoO wounded but didn't stop Du'minh. I'll edit the previous post so that his attacks are directed as a retaliation against that hob then.

Ii'Jyka'Vaar curses the moon under the sun when the blade cuts her, it is the first blood she bleeds by an opponent.. and furiously hacks into the Hob in front of her, that is barring her way to the Illithid...

Ar'dru lets out a brief puff of flame over the top of his blade as he wards the cattle off, trying to drive the herd away from himself and towards his foes to keep the Ghaik off balance.

Ignoring the scent of burning hair and roasting beef that assails his nostrils Ar'dru glances about during the brief respite, searching for something that he can use to get above the mass of cattle.

1 d10 damage to the cows in front unless they can dodge (which I kinda doubt)
Spot - 16

6 Bonus for to do
I rolled 1d20+6, the result is 16.

Ya'shenn, after opening the door for Ii, catches a faint whisper of telepathy, which she suspects is in fact a full-minded scream from Lavendar, though she is not the intended recipient. "Violet, help! Mommy needs you, baby! Come save Mommy!"

As she shifts to let Ii'Jyka'Vaar through, Ya'shenn abruptly stares in the direction of the illithid cringing inside the vault. The change in the psion's posture and expression is sudden, dramatic, though it does not appear to be directed at the knight. The Double-Edged seems disturbed, somehow, almost beyond words.

"...More of our enemies are coming. Be ready for them..." That for the benefit of her siblings. The expression of the 'drow' twists, unexpectedly perhaps to the others, becoming considerably more hateful than the norm as she addresses the illithid directly in Undercommon. "You twisted freak! Small wonder that the illithid fell, if they produced such as you!"

Hive Brothel - The Vaults

Inside the vault, Ii'jyka'vaar cleaves the hobgoblin's skull in retaliation for its blow. In her mind, her nagamaki sighs in satisfaction. Still, it hungers for desert. In the back of the vault, the illithid cowers under a golden tower-shield with an embossd lion's head.

"Feral savages! My precious baby Violet will tear you apart,"
Lavendar cries, peeking up over the edge of the shield. It pops its head up over the edge, "What is left of you, that is!" Ya'shenn and I'i feel a growing pain behind their eyes. [Mind-blast, DC17 will save.]

[Ya'shenn has initiative on the ghaik, so she can act before she needs to save. Ii is simultaneous, which means a failed save negates her action (unless she rolls a crit in addition to failing her save, in which case she'll be down, but still skewer Lavendar)]

The Packing House

Ar'dru's gout of flame drives a few cattle back, just enough to give him the space he needs to kick off the ground. Levitating above the paniced herd, Ar'du looks around.

He is just under the mouth of the huge sliding barn-doors. He does not see Pigkiller, but the iron and wood punishment collar lies on the floor. The front of it is dissolved, the iron parts pitted.

The space inside the building is huge. There are catwalks around the perimeter, where workers haul the livestock upwards with chains, so that when their throats are cut, the blood drains. The floor of the palace is a series of metal grates. What looks like a long shed runs around the inside of the warehouse. It is likely that Pigkiller fled into one of the doorways visible in this structure. On the left, the stucture is more robust, appearing as a three-story building-within-a-building. This is likely the office, since it sincs up with the stairway leading upward that Ar'dru saw on the outside. From it issue the steel catwalks.

Dispite the stampede, the business of the slaughterhouse has not stopped, only slowed. Many of the cattle have been herded into lanes where metal railings restrict their movement. They are hauled up, and the chains move along a suspended track. Graith of many races work side-by-side, though all share a similar look. They are all stong, dirty, and wearing splatters of blood on their clothes. There are two illithid, wearing large punishment collars like Pigkiller's, up on the catwalks, directing the workers. One of them, on the far end, seems engrossed with his supervisory work. The close one, however, is looking down off the catwalk, its attention drawn by the stampede, Pigkiller's cries, and most recently, a gout of flame.

This illithid bears a long polearm. It has a large hook backed by a wickedly serrated blade.

Ar'dru ignores the other illithid and shoots after pigkiller as quickly as he can, slowing once he enters the sheds and looking around.

Ii'Jyka grits her teeth for the mind blast and takes effort to skewer the Illithid....She reels back a step from the power of the blast and then steps forward determined in an effort to end this affront... her attack is slightly off, but because the illithid is prone she still manages to graze him?

Ar'dru heads for the 'shed', actually a covered corridor around the inside perimeter of the building. He is near the office. The second and third floors above the 'shed' level have catwalks. The third floor also has a window overlooking the Packing house floor.

To Ard'ru's left there is a wooden stairway leading up to the office. Under the stairs, on the 'shed' level, is a tool room. There are various racks of tools, and pegs on which hang smocks and aprons, as well as leather boots and gloves.

To his right the 'shed' corridor continues. The beast-smell is not as strong here. Periodicaly along the corridor are ladders up or, like the one fairly close at hand, stone stairways down.

There is no sign of Pigkiller except what is left of his punishment collar. There is illithid writing carved into the wood. [ Ar'dru can't read this. However, as a trained mind-warrior, he can commit them to memory for Ya'shenn who can. He must make a Know: Psi or Psicraft roll do do so for each instance (his mod is +8 I checked). Strenth of roll will determine how well he can copy the writing for Ya'senn when they meet again.]

Pigkiller could have gone up or down.

Ar'dru leaps up the wooden stairs. The second floor cosists o f a few small rooms without doors along a short hallway. The stairs come up about halfway along. To one side (Ar'dru's right), the hallway ends in a door almost exactly like the one he saw outside, except the wood hasn't seen Sigilan rain. The other end of the hallway leads outside, a metal catwalk leading back out into the slaughterhouse. By the beginning of the catwalk is a ladder leading upwards.

The rooms along the hallway, nine of them, are very small, ranging from ten-foot square to only six by six. Most of the rooms are either emtpy or have shelves of records. A few of the rooms have a desk an occupant. The clerks working here pay little mind to Ar'dru. There are no windows on this level, so they do not know that Ar'dru just caused a disturbance out in the Packing House.

Suddenly, a soft sigh enters his mind. Ar'dru almost takes the 'voice' as Ya'shenn's for a moment, beacause it purposefully taps into his recent memory of her mind-touch, a non-threatening memory.

"Hello, warrior. You must be a dutka'gith, by your armor and your actions. I am Bliss. I know that, as a githyanki, you have come intent on murder, but please refrain from slaying the sentients here. Most are innocent of any crime or entrallment, they just work here. As do we, though I doubt you consider us so innocent. Meathook and Foreman are out on the catwalks. I would appreciate you start with them, for I am not eager to die."

"Eager or not you are what you are and cannot be allowed to live. Should you provide me with useful information then I will allow your passing to be swift and easy." Ar'dru finishes by casting his mind into a silvery void from which he can see all but is himself concealed.

[manifest empty mind as Ar'dru searches for the source of the voice]
