The Hive Brothel
(upstairs)

Ar'dru draws his silver greatsword and cleaves into the unarmored hobgoblin guards, beheading the first with one great sweep and burying the blade deep into the torso of the second.

Checking on the fires, he notes that because the building itself is made of marble, it will not burn down from just the alchemists' fire. The furnishings, however, are a different matter, as are the inhabitants. With satisfaction, Ar'dru notes the chaos created. Between the fire and the bloody slaying of the guards in front of them, several greenskirts are running away screaming. A few with their hair on fire scream louder and run faster than the others. The patrons too, annoyed as they are with the disturbance and interuption of 'services', tend to be wise enough to cut their losses and flee.

It is not difficult to spread the fire. Ar'dru grabs a burning matress from under a dying couple and tosses it into another room (wisely setting down his backpack full of incediaries before entering the flames). He repeats this procedure several times before reinforcements arrive. As he steps out of yet another burning room, he sees a brace of hobgoblin guards coming down the hallway. They are still bare-chested, as were the others, but instead of merely clubs, half of them are armed with broadswords. There are about twenty hobs, led by the derro pimp and a female drow of astonishing beauty.

"You blamin' idiot!" The drow scolds the derro, "That's no kaasta. He's a half-dragon or something."

"Well, excuse me. Do I LOOK like a planar scholar? Hey, what're you berks waiting for? KILL HIM!"

(downstairs)

The second guard burned by Daraz's spell charges Ya'shenn [beat initiative of 12 to blast him with the dorje at point-blank range - touch attack vs AC 10]. The two other guards cross the room. Daraz takes a shot at one, but merely grazes him as he runs. They split and each runs up a different stairway to get at the intruders on the balcony [no attack this round, but initiative 12 next round].

The Festhall District

The greenskirts continue to resist, but fear is in their eyes. That is except for the human of questionable gender. (S)he continues to lash at Gy-Nath with his/her scourge, once again drawing blood. (S)he is nimble enough to dodge back and shove companion greenskirts at the githyanki blades. The greenskirts' shivs, however, are ineffective against the githyankis' armor. Ii's tactical sense tells her that the androgynous one's death will likely break the rest.

if i can take only a 5ft step i will make it a full attack against the andro, but i will for now move and attack once, until told otherwise. about fast healing, when does this kick in? the next turn after receiving the dam or at the end of the actual round i received the dam.? do i flank the Andro?

self inflicted dam.: total 10 over 2 rounds, so regardless whether healing kicks in in the round the dam is received, i should have healed 6 now...

[BS - Healing starts the round after damage is taken.]

The Festhall District

Ii'jyka'vaar shoves a greenskirt aside and hacks at the androgynous human. Her blade bides deeply into the human's ribcage, opening a serious wound, but not killing outright. Gy-Nath finishes the job, however, bringing his bastard sword down on the human's head. The human falls dead to the street with a bloody scream. The rest of the greenskirts break in the face of the murderous githyanki attack, scattering in every direction.

The githyanki rush forward in unison toward the portal. There are bloodstains, but no other sign of "Mr. Love".

The Hive Brothel (downstairs)

Ya'shenn once again activates the dorje, and the hobgoblin guard's neck snaps backward with a sound like a try stick being broken. He rolls down the stairs, limp and lifeless, his body vaulted by the next guard who charges up at Ya'shenn.

He breathes out a gout of flame at his attackers before dashing through the room and out the window, swooping down to the more inflammable looking poor brothel.

The Hive Brothel (upstairs)

Ar'dru retreats into the room looking for an exit. The window is covered over by a piece of canvas to keep out the Sigilan 'weather', whatever glass panes, frames, or bars that once covered it having been removed and sold off. Some of the dying guards follow him, but being on fire kills them before they can do him any more damage, fanaticism or no. Ar'dru slashes open the canvas and dives out the window. Spreading his wings, he glides around the walls of the ruined mansion, heading for the shanty-wing.

As he glides overhead, Ar'dru sees half a dozen hobgoblin guards beating the snot out the unsatisfied orc from before. The alchemist's fire from before has burned out, unable to catch the wet wood and tarps of the shanties aflame. As he approaches, A'dru sees a brace of guards, led by a well-dressed quaggoth (deep bear) march through on their way toward the now obviously-burning wing.

"Heads up, boyos. Something's up in the middle-jink wing. Kaasta raid or doomguard vandals, from what I've heard. You all come with me, leave this piece of slime to the girls."

The guards join the quaggoth's group and start to march off. Meanwhile, the beaten orc struggles to get back to his feet as a ring of greenskirts wielding sharpened shanks of wood, crude saps made of bricks stuffed into stockings, rocks, and broken bottles, forms up around him.

[DM - Nobody has noticed Ar'dru flying overhead (yet). Available targets are the ring of greenskirts, or the group of guards (about two dozen) making their way through the shanties. Ar'dru can wait a few moments for the guards to get a bit furter away before attacking, if he chooses the greenskirts.]

The Hive Brothel (portal in)

Ii'jyka'vaar, Gy-Nath, and Du'minh come through the portal into the brothel. On the other side, they find themselves in small room connected to a long hallway just outside. In the room, there is a greenskirt with a wash bucket, cleaning a fresh puddle of blood from the floor. She looks up when the 'fizzle-pop' of the portal opening draws her attention, but does not react.

A glance outside into the hallway reveals that it is empty except for four individuals. At the other end, near a stairway leading down, is Mr. Love, a githyanki arrow still skewering his tophat, talking to the cleanest satyr anyone has ever seen, flanked by a pair of unarmored hobgoblin guards. The satyr looks alarmed, and Mr. Love passes him and starts down the stairs.

The Hive Brothel (downstairs)

A hobgoblin guard charges up either side of the balcony, one aiming for each of the intruders.

[DM - Daraz and Ya'shenn have the initiative, partly due to having the high ground, but the guards are now in melee rather than range.]

(roll of intim. below, f**k an intimidate roll of one, hmmz, how funny that will be, it fits me forgetting to spit the coppers out first..)
Dunamin can go for love, then i will block the Satyr and 2 hob's, with a selected hit on the first hob-gob in my way, meaning if you allow i will use the to hit for mr love vs a HobGob.

self inflicted dam.: total 11 over 3 rounds, so i have healed 9 now...

The greenskirt raises an eyebrow, then starts to laugh. "Hee hee hee. Girl, if you want lessons on how to talk with your mouth full, you've come to the right place." When the other heavily armed githyanki follow Ii through the portal, she adds, "If you're looking for the rough stuff, that's another wing. One of the 'associates' will show you the way." She then goes back to work, chuckling to herself.

[DM note - As y'all may have figured out already, the regular greenskirts are just that. The vast majority don't even have any idea the place is run by the illithid. The associates, however, are either loyal in a well-paid employee sense or actually brainwashed. The hobgob guards are soldier-thralls.]

with that Ii'Jyka puts her attention to the HobGob's, and prepared for an onslaught, all the while hoping the girl will get herself to safety before the onslaught takes to many random casualties, then attacks the HobGob and slices him in twain (hopefully)

It’s a good thought, but if I delay to your initiative to pull that off we risk that our foes react before and take some unexpected countermeasure. I’ll just try while we have the drop on them and if I don’t make it Ii could make a go for it as well.

Oh, and I applaud the roleplaying dedication to simulate coin-blocked speech. Laughing out loud

IC
Du’minh charges forward, making a run for the staircase with his flail-head trailing behind him. If possible, the gith tries to lean away from the guards and satyr while storming past, but otherwise ignores any effort to slow him down.

At the staircase he dives for the hat-pierced tiefling, coming down on him with a savage roar and a flail in his back.

(included +2 for charge, but power attacking for -2/+4)

Ya'shenn attempts to back just out of the reach of her own thrall soldier, before treating it to a blast from the dorje the Tamer had so thoughtfully provided.

[5-foot step to get out of the threatened square and hopefully avoid the AoO, then activate dorje. If not, well, that's what Concentration checks are for.]

In one fluid motion, Daraz draws his shiv and catches the hobgoblin just above the eye. The guard retaliates with his club, but the quick-footed gith dodges his attacks.

[DM to Zim: In melee make non-touch attack vs AC 12. Ya'shenn has the initiative and can act first, but the task is significantly different now than 'point and shoot'. This may or may not be 100% by the rules - I haven't found anything confirming nor contradicting - but it makes sense to be.]

The Hallway

The trio of githyanki warriors charge forward crying battle. Du'minh ignores the hobgoblins and the satyr and chases down the tiefling. The hobgob guards try to intercept the fail-wielding warrior, but Gy-nath and Ii'jyka'varr step in their way. Ii swings her two-handed blade, and cleaves the head of one of the guards in two. Gy-Nath stabs his bastard sword through the chest of the second. As both guards fall dead, the satyr (whose perfumed fur is nearly overpowering at close range) instead of attacking or defending himself, grabs a set of golden pipes hanging among the chains and amulets around his neck, and blows a piercing whistle-alarm.

The tiefling tries to run down the stairs, but Du'minh catches up to him halfway down. "Oh no! No! NOOO! Lavendar, my love! The githyanki are coming, love! GithYaaa...."

Du'minh's flail crushes the tiefling's skull, and his crumpled tophat is impaled by one of the spikes and sticks there as Mr. Love topples forward and falls down the stairs.

Ya'shenn grunts in pain and utters a surprisingly ripe curse as the dead thrall falls on her. While normally a dedicated practitioner of Githyanki formal etiquette, something about the stress of battle tends to make the psion's vocabulary much more colorful.

[Suggestion to the face. Yes, she's attempting to abuse the guard's previous conditioning for her own benefit. I don't think there's a positioning issue, but if there is, she'll move to a non-threatened square before manifesting.]

- False sense input - Ya'shenn appears to be an illithid to the guard

- Domination - Guard knows exactly what is going on, but cannot resist Ya'shenn's will. Guard gets savings throw if forced to act contrary to pre-established patters (like attack an illithid or pimp).

- Mindlink (shallow probe) - pry data right out of the Hob's brainbox.]

Ya'shenn gazes down at the kneeling, wounded thrall. Mentally, she takes the moment to thoroughly savor this act of total domination, feeling only a little disgust at herself for doing this to another sentient being -- and for enjoying it so much. For a moment, something of her emotions shows in her expression.

Indeed, she thinks, either this graith's mind must be unusually vulnerable, or simply very well-worn from the influence of its illithid masters. It's abnormally easy to reach further into the mind and consciousness, such as they are, of the hobgoblin, bypassing its free will and making it as much of a puppet as the greenskirt who continues to follow them around.

Thorough, she thinks. For now, she tries another tactic. While the psion continues using her 'Obey or face immediate brain extraction' voice, it becomes a shade less direly threatening: more like the voice of a slave-master who feels that proper deference has now been established. "Even if you have not been below, you will have seen others enter and exit through this door, and you may have heard something also. You will tell us what you have heard and seen."

She has a fairly good idea what likely goes on beyond this door, but that one additional detail might be crucial.

Ya'shenn feels the guard try to resist, but his will and mind have been so rewired for obedience that he has to obey ... someone ... at least in the absence of his true masters.

"Nngg ... n ... no ... I shouldn't ... I ... I ... I have seen several ... of the ... associates ... come and go. Miss Lythe ... and Mister Muscle ... brought tonight's aquisitions down earlier ... and Miss Lythe ... came back out again. Mist ... er ... Green and ... Mister Sharp ... are also still inside ... with Master Lavendar and Master Violet. I have ... I have heard screams ... it sounded like Master Violet feeding tonight. Master Lavender rarely makes them scream ... "

The hobgoblin grits his teeth as he tries to resist Ya'shenn, all in vain. His muscles spasm and the veins on his forehead bulge and pulse. His face is a mask of hatred and fear, but he cannot resist the psion's will.

Ar'Dru circles for a moment, waiting until the guards move a little further away before swooping down at the greenskirts.

Ar'dru sweeps his sword across the group in a broad, reaping motion before stating flatly in the stunned silence "Flee screaming or die here and now. I have come to kill and burn not to steal, do your employers pay you enough to face me?"

Even Ya'shenn is unable to repress a shudder of horror and disgust as the hobgoblin describes the illithids' feeding habits. She might enjoy mentally dominating these thralls, but she fears their masters.

She eyes the door warily for a moment. I'm not sure how much time we have to work with here...

"Miss Lythe. You will tell us everything that you know about her... and any other associates who would have a reason to go through this door, but who are not inside at this moment. Do they ever go in by themselves, or do they usually... accompany someone when they do?"

[I'm leaning toward Ya'shenn and Daraz going in disguised as pimps, perhaps with Ya'shenn posing as Lythe and Daraz posing as "Mr. Love" or the satyr. If they're lucky, they won't run smack into Lavender and Violet ahead of schedule, but Ya'shenn would like them to be able to imitate the associates convincingly if someone challenges them: appearance, mannerisms, speech patterns, etc. Azure -- if you think it'd be necessary to use detect thoughts to garner that level of detail, lemme know and I might do that in the next post.]

With a boot on the corpse and a snap pull of his chain, Du’minh loosens the flail-head and kicks the tiefling aside, then turns back to deal with the satyr. Seeing how he’s the lone survivor and faced with three menacing giths, the Rish-i-Chal stays his hand for now but keeps the flail swinging ready by his side.

“You will not live long enough to discover that there are no reinforcements to hear the sound of your horn, graith.”

Unless, you immediately direct us to the seats of your masters - And I am not talking of caretakers like your associate who now lies broken down the stairs.”

The look on the faces of the greenskirts says "NO", and they comply with Ar'dru's order to run screaming. The area is a chaos of fleeing greenskirts even before the headless corpses hit the ground.

The orc does not move. Indeed, by the look of the bruises and swelling, it is doubtful he even can.

[DM - Detect Thoughts will be needed to get a visual, since the hob can describe, but that wouldn't be good enough.

Ar'dru nudges the orc with a gentle prod with his toe "My warning goes for you too graith, I intend to burn down this den of illithid and you with it if you do not find the strength to run free of this place."

Assuming that there are no immediate obstacles Ar'dru busies himself arranging the furniture and detritus in the brothel into optimal positions (kindling near wooden beams, etc) and then sets the place alight. He uses a flask or two of oil if it seems necessary.

The side-cellars have no doors (looted), and here in the outermost of the inner chambers, they are stocked with fairly innocuous things. One is a wine cellar, one has a bath, one has silks and sheets, one has cheap but fancy jewelry, clothes, shoes, and perfume bottles, one has preserved foodstuffs, and one has various barrels, ropes, leather restraints, and weapons.]
