Daraz morphs his features and enters Void Keys. Outfitted with the inexpensive travel gear, he looks like a typical peniless githyanki refugee.

Within, the shop is full of little shelves and alcoves, each with a collection of odd knick-knacks for use as portal keys. The shop is a warren of small rooms with low archways between. At first, Daraz does not see anyone minding the shop. There is a sign, however, just inside the door, "All Keys 3 Jinx."

Daraz, does, however hear voices from another room. He peeks through the rooms and catches sight of a young gith (Mim) talking with two armored githyanki. As he gets closer he hears their conversation. Mim is telling one of the githyanki about the state of affairs in Git'riban, Sigil, and the planes. The other armored warrior interjects from time to time, both with statements affirming or expounding, and with questions of his own for Mim. It seems that the first warrior has but recently arrived in Sigil, while the second is a resident of Git'riban, but evidently a fairly new one.

Daraz catches sight of the speakers, while remaining hidden himself.

Mim is a young adult githyanki with a shaved head save for a single braid of silver-white hair (a very, very rare color for githyanki). The two warriors have gear with similar design accents, indicating they hail from the same warband. Their belts and straps are tan, with bronze buckles, and their armor incorporates bronze accents. Daraz recognizes the pair, both by their armor and their voices, as being the two githyanki who were in a heated arguement with Gy-Nath in Haven Port Inn, just before the party made his aquaintance.

OOC: Which page was that argument on?

Daraz will listen closely to the conversation for any specific details or if Mim seems especially interested in some detail or other. He will also take note of where Ya'shnen and Rey are. When does the conversation look like it will end?

Telepathically:

There are two other githyanki here, which may present a problem.

The three githyanki seem to be having a private disagreement. Two of them turn their backs on the well-armed warrior who joined the fray from Haven Port's balcony. These two, an older warrior and a younger one, take a table in the opposite corner of the room from the five 'zerai. The lone warrior just shakes his head at their departure. He approaches the opposite end of the bar from the party and orders a drink. He nods toward the party and raises his glass to them before drinking.

[From page 11. Nobody in the party overheard any details of their argument.

Oh, and make a hide and/or stealth roll.]

Ar'dru rises and outlines the story behind the tracking and killing of the Ulitharid, it's importance in Sigil, and it's apparant continuation within the eyes. "Clearly you can see why I would destroy this abomination which seeks to enslave the people even after it's own death."

With that Ar'dru brings out the severed head, discreetly preparing himself to throw the head into the lava should things go poorly.

[No, the worst Mod, actually, but you remain undiscovered for now.]
The conversation is benign enough, but but still news to Daraz. Mim is currently updating the two warriors on the situation in the Astral. It seems that all of the Knights and supporters of both the True and the Accendancy have been expelled from the cities that have joined the Heartforce, but due to fears of reprisals, many warbands have issued orders for their own members to abandon the cities and report to the bands' astral forts. The exception, of course, are those warbands that have wholeheartedly thrown in with the Heartforce, which include five very large and powerful warbands; Flint, Gneiss, Copper, Perl, and Platinum.

The dragon leans in closer, whispering something in a very ancient form of Draconic. It sounds like the hissing of a hot fire. Then Schakrashaa chuckles again.

"I see the reflection of The Fire in these eyes. This souless abomination has stolen the blood that was our greatest gift to the mortal races. These eyes that the monster made for itself reflect my fire, but I sense also a shadow."

"This thing's essence was ended with its life, or it would have been had a spell not been cast preventing its brain's decay. Souless monstrocities, the things you call 'ghaik' have no way out of their mortality, save one."

"This one, however, succeeded in casting a shadow upon the artifacts it created. Though a mortal sorcerer may be hard pressed to overcome the ego of these items, such beings have but a drop of magic in their veins. Hrmm hrmm hrmm. WE ARE MAGIC."

"Still, they are worthy and powerful artifacts, fine tribute indeed, cousin. They will shine from the blackened remains of this Souless One's flame-scoured skull, and never may mortal hands touch them."

Ar'dru bows low again "If the creature is destroyed then my duty is fulfilled. While I abhor the thought of any creature being a thrall, the thought of the beast's 'shadow' being used as your tool or ornament for eternity seems a fitting end mighty cousin. If I may prevail upon you for a moment more, have you any news which may aid in my crusade against the Ghiak or in the re-unification of the people?"

"I will tell you this, cousin, to bring back to your people. A new Alliance is forming. We dragons remember fondly our raids with the children of Mind-Fire. Though the Dragon Pact contained clauses to compel us, never did your people seek to enslave our wills. We do not overlook this, for it is not a minor detail. The Singer of Fire seeks to unite our people once more under the Cult of Tiamat. Should she ascend to Vlaakith's throne, the dragons and githyanki will bring fire to the skies of the countless worlds once more, and may Her Great and Terrible Highness feed on god-flesh."

"Oh, and before you go, you should know not to await the silver draconian who led you here. Bel's black trators are already torturing him unto death. I must remark that his bravery and dedication to Her Majesty are impressive, do you wish to see? Ah, the ignorant fool, had his soul been hell-born like his forefathers', his place among us would be assured. As it is, new souls like his have little chance of escaping the baatezu muster, despite the loyal abashai we dispatch to retrieve them. Still, should you make it back to Sigil, his record will be unmarred, and we may lawfully lay claim to him, should his arrival upon the Shoals of Despond be marked."

Ar'dru bows before taking his leave "I shall return to Sigil with all haste to report your servants fall. May his soul eternally serve the dark queen in death as his body did in life."
Ar'dru quickly assesses the situation outside the cave before winging his way back to where he hopes the portal remains.

From atop the mountain, Ar'dru has a grand view of the lower slopes. He can see about where he came up. A haze lies over a large swath where the City of Black Smokes lies. The narrow black forts of Bel lie below, blockading the way back to Sigil. They do not seem any more or less busy for Ar'dru's and Boz's passage. That is, all except one. Several wings of abashai congregate upon a particular fort in the near distance. Unfortunately, this does not seem to leave any extra spaces in the well-coordinated dragnet. Small patrols of three abashai each scour the landscape, supported by ready wings of thirteen warriors.

Getting back may prove significantly harder than getting up was, without a guide.

Ar'dru begins to fly straight up, remaining well within Tiamat's realm, until the forts are specks below him (ooc- I realise that this may take some time) then, turning towards where the portal is located he flies across to near where he expects the portal to be before diving straight down like an arrow.

Ar'dru can fly as high as he wishes, for unlike a prime world, Avernus's air does not thin as he moves higher and higher. However, the smokes that issue from the ground cloak it in a haze, and he will loose his bearings if he climbs too high. Furthermore, it seems that there were patrols waiting for him to emerge, for as he mounts into the air, a trio of black abashai shadow his moves.

He flies high, in the direction of where he believes the portal to Sigil lies, but the patrols react to his presence. As a result, when Ar'dru comes screaming down from on high towards the City of Black Smokes, there is, first a trio of black abashai just below him, and more converging on the area he is expected to come down in.

[That's right, now you've got to get by 3 of 'em all by yourself.]

As soon as Ar'dru gets his bearings he streaks down towards where the portal was located, ignoring the attacks of the abashai as he plummets, sword first towards the ground.

[OOC: Wei, does Daraz allow Ya'shenn to see and hear what he's seeing and hearing through the mindlink? It's up to him.]

Once Daraz has departed, Ya'shenn removes the 'comb' from a pouch at her belt, though not without some reluctance. Glancing around to make sure she's unobserved, she begins a process that looks like, at first glance, elaborately preening her hair. When she's done, though, a very different Githyanki female is standing there. One with much less visible display of material wealth, a decidedly nondescript appearance, a bit older, and definitely lacking a 'third eye' gem. The 'comb' changes in appearance to a hair ornament, and she takes similar care to disguise the appearance of her weapons and other sundry items.

She questions whether this will fool the pair of magic-wielding warlocks, but it should be sufficient for random bystanders.

~Those two are a random factor we don't need. Let us wait a few minutes and see if they do us a favor and depart on their own. After a moment, So, how good are you at subduing someone without killing that someone outright? I think I may be able to locate his mark, but I'll need a little time to examine him.

~Are you... safe, right now? You could browse the shop for a few minutes, if need be. I'll be joining you shortly.

Ar'dru

The duthka'gith warrior steps into a fast dive, sword-point forward. The trio of abashai are not far below him, but Ar'dru wears heavy armor, and by the time he gets to them, he has a good head of steam. They dare not get in his way, instead they slash at him with their spears, but he rockets through without taking a hit. The abashai dive after him, screeching warnings to their companions below.

Void Keys

Daraz remains undetected by Mim and the pair of Bronze warriors. He notices that the warrior that seems new to Git'riban is wearing lighter armor, leather studded with bronze plates. By their conversation, it seems that, not only is he new to Sigil, but knows little about the incursions and the fall of Vlaakith. Daraz recognizes the other one from the streets of Git'riban. He has lived in the ghetto for at least the past month or so.

"Would you like a portal to the Astral? They shift greatly, but my master keeps timetables and maps..."

"No. I need more information, brother." The newcomer interrupts Mim. He nods to the other warrior who offers more jink. "Have you seen another warrior of the Bronze? A female warrior?"

"I'm sorry, honorable warrior, but though we sell information, I cannot talk about a client. Such are the orders of my master. However, rest assured that you yourselves are now clients as well."

The newcomer gets angry. Very angry. Suddenly flying off the handle, he swears and calls Mim a Zerth-lover and coward. For a moment he looks like he may draw steel, but the other warrior restrains him, and guides him toward the door.

Their route toward the door does not take them past Daraz, and he manages to remain hidden. The warrior is still swearing loudly as he is pushed out the door by his band-brother. The pair pass Ya'shenn on the stoop.

She enters the shop and looks around. She quickly lowers the bar, locking the door, and walks toward the back of the shop, intercepting Mim, and keeping him from walking into the room where Daraz hides.

"Welcome to Void Keys, sister. Is there someplace you'd like to go, or something you'd like to know?" Mim asks when he he sees her.

***

Ar'dru

As Ar'dru nears the ground, he quickly realizes that he cannot pick out the particular arch that led here from Sigil. His rate of speed is high, but the three abashai are right on his heels. When he reaches the hilltops, he dodges and weaves around the ruins, looking for a familiar landmark.

As Ar'dru passes yet another unfamiliar ruin, a net suddenly flies up, and ensnares one of the abashai! Half a dozen fiendish kobolds erupt from hiding. They fling sling stones at the two other pursuing abashai. Ardru sees, partway down the mass of rock, is a small cave. A kobold wearing robes shows himself in the cave mouth and conjures a burst of flame to get Ar'dru's attention, before ducking back in.

Ar'dru tucks in his wings to avoid the ruined masonry and speeds towards the opening before opening them slightly before landing to slow himself before entering the cave.

"You have my thanks little cousins" he intones as he enters the cave, before turning to defend the entrance against any abashi who are still following.

Ar'dru's fences greatsword-to-spear with the abashai, but the githyanki-trained swordsman proves the more skillful. The abashai makes a fatal mistake and leaves an opening. Ar'dru swings his Silver Sword hard, and whisks the abashai's head from its body.

Of the other two abashai, ambushed by the fiendish kobolds, the one in the net is being pummeled and stabbed, while the other, initially surprised by the hail of stones, flies upward screeching for reinforcements. The kobolds scatter, but not before heaving a heavy rock into the net and rolling rock, net, and abashai down the jagged hillside.

The kobold who got Ar'dru's attention beckons him from deeper in the cave, then turns and plunges into the tight confines of Avernus' dark earth.

Her choice of the trade metropolis of the Silver Void is no coincidence, for most githyanki, from even the more far-flung corners of the empire, would have a legitimate reason to visit there at one time or another. It also doesn't hurt that, with the number of travelers that city has seen in the past, Githmir is a major Astral hub -- easy to go from there to many other githyanki cities, and even to some of the more remote fortress-towns.

Ya'shenn makes an effort to disguise her voice as something lower, rougher, and less melodic than her natural one. The woman's accent sounds like it could have come originally from any one of a cluster of half a dozen backwater fortress settlements in an out-of-the-way corner of the Astral.

"Three merts?" Ya'shenn grumbles, throwing her hands up in exasperation and annoyance. Poor Mim is going to have his hands full with unhappy customers today. She's not shouting, nor threatening, as the young Bronze had been, but rather coming off as a miserly customer who'd clearly just been been irritated by the size of the requested sum. "Is it that hard to find a portal in this stinking, barbaric excuse for a city?"

Sighing in frustration, she nonetheless reaches -- at a normal speed for a customer, not with any sign of violence -- for a pouch at her belt, making a few of the coins inside tinkle in the process. Oh, and hopefully drawing Mim's attention toward it and distracting it from anything else that might be going on nearby. Like someone creeping up on him...

Puzzled Yes, and you have 6 ranks in Hide, right? 3 ranks in each would've been better, but you ARE striking from hiding...

Silently praying that the Accursed One was correct in Mim's case, Ya'shenn reaches out mentally to both Daraz and Du'minh. [OOC: And OO, if she hasn't taken out Miik'ka yet.]

~Strike.

[OOC: Manifest crisis of breath on our silver-haired friend immediately after Daraz attacks. I believe the Will save DC is 19. Ya'shenn is attempting to keep Mim's attention distracted with conversation while Daraz is getting into position. Unless Mim has been tipped off, a surprise round may be warranted. If crisis of breath takes to the extent that he falls unconscious, she'll turn off the power before death occurs. Maybe.]

"Yes, sister. This barbaric city has many portals but very few to the Silver Void. In fact, it may be easier to go somewhere else and find a color pool, than to find a portal to the Astral." He does his best not to sneer, but Ya'shenn gets the impression that Mim is a native Sigilan, and that she has insulted him. "There is one peminanant, reliable portal that cycles between many major githyanki cities; the Queen's Embassy. If you have contacts with the Court of Vlaakith, by all means, have an enjoyable stroll to the Lower Ward."

"But the merts may prove to be ... negotiable. There may also be other services Void Keys might provide for you. What is your name, sister?"

Mim looks closely at Ya'shenn. He senses her preocupation as she communicates with the others. He leans in, but turns slightly when he hears something behind him, the sound of Daraz's crossbow being cocked. Mim whispers an incantation, but Daraz is too quick, he pins a bolt into Mim's ribs just as a ball of flame is starting to materialize between his hands. The flames dissipate, and Mim tries to cry out, but Ya'shenn causes him to stop breathing, and all that comes out is a squeek.

Daraz loads and prepares to fire again (readies an action) if Mim does not look sufficiently subdued or resists Ya'Shenen's power.

[OOC: Since talking is a free action...If you feel it goes on too long, feel free to use an abbreviated version.]

Ya'shenn inwardly curses Mim's sharp ears and general perceptiveness as the silver-haired githyanki turns around, foiling a shot that might have dropped him outright, or at least wounded him severely. The telepath removes her hand from the belt pouch and tightens her grip on her staff. She's painfully aware of her shortcomings in melee combat, should it come to that, but it's likely the warlock is similarly terrible.

"I really don't want to have to hurt you... brother. Don't force me to." Her gaze drops to Mim's hands for a moment. "We'll have to keep you from tossing spells for a bit, but if you cooperate, we'll be out of your way in no time."

She can't help but think of how much easier it would be to psionically dominate him into obedience. The resonance stone Will had presumably created hadn't shown Ya'shenn anything that was entirely absent to begin with. Generally, though, the psion takes pains to reject that part of her psyche.

"If you don't play along, my friend here will be happy to give you something more than a warning shot. It's really up to you. Quiet down a bit and I'm sure we'll get along fine."

[Readied action: Manifest telekinesis, if an appropriate object, preferably a 'hard/dense/sharp/hurty' one, is available within range and line of sight, to chuck at Mim at high velocity without warning, if he continues to resist. Technically, if Mim has a weapon on him, it would be a nice touch to beat on him with his own weapon, if he fails a Will save. If no convenient object to telekinese is available, let me know and I'll change the action. Ya'shenn will also take an AoO against Mim if he begins to cast (or manifest).]

Mim gives Ya'shenn as severe look. He stumbles over to one of the shelves, gasping for breath, and proceeds to flail about, knocking several large breakable objects onto the floor. This creates quite a racket.

Ar'dru

Ar'dru follows the fiendish kobolds into the tunnels. The spaces are tight, usually about 5' square. There are about half a dozen kobolds traveling with him, dragging the headless corpse of the black abashai Ar'dru slew.

[DM - Did Ar'dru collect the head?]

The sorcerer guiding him stops often to disarm or circumvent many traps and pitfalls along the way. The tunnels are a maze. Some are filled with smoke. Some narrow to the point where Ar'dru must remove his armor to squeeze through.

[DM assumes Ar'dru re-dons his armor after these points]

Eventually, they enter a domed cavern of worked stone blocks. The chamber is not large, a round floorspace perhaps twenty feet in diameter, but other caves open up on other levels. There are no balconies or ledges, but the blocks provide many handholds for the kobolds to climb up. The chamber is fairly crowded with kobolds. As soon as those kobolds accompanying Ar'dru throw the abashai's headless body on the floor, they and several others there set to devouring it, skin, meat, bone and marrow.

As brutal as the feeding frenzy is, it pales in comparison to the one which ensues when the live abashai caught in the net is brought in a few minutes later.

Only about half of the kobolds eat, however, and the foul, poisonous meat soon incpacitates those that do with wracking stomach pains. Still, from the wastral, emaciated look of these fiendish dire kobolds, and the envious looks they gave the eaters, Ar'dru realizes they are the lucky ones.

Ar'dru feels dozens of hungry eyes upon him, but none of the kobolds makes any moves to attack him. The very first of the kobolds to feast was a a slightly larger one covered in what looks like dried blood. A few other kobolds aid him, as the poisonous flesh of the abashai has him doubled over in pain. The sorcerer that led Ar'dru here did not eat. He speaks with the blooded one before returning to Ar'dru's side.

"The Scion of Kurtulmak will meet with you shortly."

Several kobolds carry the Scion over to Ar'dru.

ooc- sure, Ar'dru will collect the head. Next level I might take some ranks in taxidermy Laughing out loud

Ar'dru waits until the Scion approaches before giving a moderate, but brief bow- enough to aknowledge that he is a guest in the Kobold's home and the kobold may indeed hold noble ancestry whilst still retaining an air of superiority.

Ar'dru

It takes awhile, while the Scion thrashes arond in pain, but eventually he is well enogh to speak, though he remains doubled over in pain, and can only stand with aid from the other fiendish kobolds around.

"You are ... one of the travelers ... from Sigil, yes ? I am ... the Scion of ... Kurtulmak the Great ! Do you wish to ... arrgg ... to return to the ... City of Doors ? You will never ... find it without ... our help, warrior ... Unh ... You are ... urrg ... strong ... but a legion of abashai ... serving Bel ... watch from their black forts ... ick ... We can lead you ... graa ... through the tunnels ... to your portal ... but there is a price ... urf ... a price, half-gith."

Void Keys

Mim's trashing makes plenty of noise, but he recieves another crossbow bolt in the back for it. He stumbles and falls to the floor. He looks very much like a silver tropical fish whose tank has fallen on the floor, writhing around among broken glass and pottery, gasping for breath. He tries to crawl into the next room.

[DM - from my reading of crisis of breath Mim can take in enough air so long as he takes only partial actions]
