OOC: What would it seem like Grazz’ options are for escape? How many exits from Haven Port besides the main door? I’m considering having Du’minh jump down the balcony if the fall isn’t too damaging, run to the front door or wherever Grazz is headed, then move to cut him off (in case he somehow makes it out of the crowd of giths jumping on him).
[There are probably more exits than the main door, and its a good bet Grazz knows of them even if the PCs don't. The main door would be the closest exit. However, Grazz's chances for escape have gone down, not up, though the growing darkness surrounding Vivec might renew his chances somewhat.]

[About 20']

[Edit: Jumping off the balcony will result in 2d6 damage. Climbing down, you can make that 1d6 max (make an untrained climb check of DC 13 and take zero damage) but it will take an extra round to climb down carefully. I figure one could leap into the square and pick himself up, then run back into the inn on the next round (but it'd be reckless and you might sprain something, young man), or spend a full round climbing down, which as fate would have it, is not that hard, even for a warrior in full armor. (Which explains why the bartender didn't know Grazz was in the building)

Actually, I’ll choose option C: Hopping down carefully to reduce the falling damage as if the drop was 10 ft shorter, by trying to beat a Jump check of DC 15 (PHB p77).

Glancing up as Gy-Nath and Jhank’kor approaches down the corridor, Du’minh raises a hand to catch their attention. Looking Gy straight in the eye, the Rish conveys a sentence in his thoughts, hoping the fellow warrior will read them as he have before.

“I will move to cut them off from below, on the off-chance that any of the traitors should make it through the entire crowd.”

The instant his message is delivered, the Rish spins around and takes a firm hold of the balcony railing. He swings himself over and rolls as he hits the ground to lessen the impact on his body, then moves to re-enter Haven Port from ground level.

OOC: Any chance I'll get the low-down on the psicrystals from the pirate and lithid-roper account? Gonna need some options so I don't get AoO'd to death by my comrade, either. Eye-wink

If there was an attack power crystal, J would've set it into the pommel of his staff for quick use.

Ar'dru spits out some blood and growls with frustration as he shakes himself free of the entangling robe.

Casting a frustrated look at the now darkened hallway he follows Du'minh's lead and dives over the balcony after snatching up his sword, gliding towards the main entrance.

The darkness grows around Rey'arteb, relentlessly conquoring the light. Within the blink of an eye, an inky blackness fills the hall and the stairs, a night no eyes can penetrate, except for Rey's. Daraz fires his crossbow at Grazz's last known location. Blind, Gy-Nath, Jhank'kor, and Daraz blunder into each other in the hall, still sliding around in an inch of melting snow.

Rey'arteb watches, helpless, as Daraz's crossbow bolt incredibly finds it's mark. It sinks into Grazz's left lung, bood froths from his mouth as he gasps for breath. The gith pirates struggle and throw blows blindly, more finding purchase with each other than on their intended target, but Grazz still recieves a few blows. Unable to breathe, the battered githzerai struggles against the tide for a few more short moments, before finally passing out. His dead weight and the fumbling melee on the stairs cause the last few pirates in line to tumble down the stairs and land in a twisted pile at the bottom, Grazz's limp form among them.

[Once again, it's a shot by Daraz that finally brings the quarry into negative hp land. Wait ... didn't you want to take this one alive? Oh well, SOME of that was subdual damage.] Sticking out tongue

[Edit: Ev'body still upstairs gets one round of action as Du'minh and Ar'dru re-enter the inn, then I'll describe what's going on downstairs next round.]

Haven Port Inn, Main Bar.

Du'minh and Ar'dru rush through the front door and into the main room. The patrons are obviously aware of the 'disturbance' upstairs. Inky blackness spills down the stairs like a creeping mist. From within the darkness come grunts and curses.

The two githyanki Gy-Nath had a disagreement with when the party first entered are absent, as are most of the pirates (now). The Black Spear Clan gith are still here, as are the githzerai in the corner, but as Du'minh and Ar'dru enter, the greycloaks begin to slide out of sight, heading for back doors though the kitchen and bar areas. The last to leave is the Zerth with the silver chain, and he locks gaze with Du'minh for a few moments before he goes.

Obsidian Orb turns at the sound of the door, and greets the two warriors with a bemused smirk. "Has the Yanki Clan found its foes, or were our drinks too strong?"

Du’minh glares suspiciously back at the chain-wielding ‘zerai, taking in mental notes of what he has seen and heard, but turns his attention to the matter at hand. He gives a swift reply to the chieftess nearby, then speeds onwards to get back into the action.

“Mistress Obsidian Orb, a threat to all githyanki-kind is loose in this tavern. We must make haste to end it.”

The Rish-I-Chal darts towards the darkness and tries to get an overview of the current scenario. He peers particularly for the whereabouts of Grazz and Rey, trying to pick up their magical auras within his vision.

(Next 2 rounds, probably)

Daraz, who hadn't minded the darkness a moment before now looks worriedly over his shoulder, expecting Rey to sneak up behind him. Being especially careful in the dark, Daraz will lower himself from the staircase to the ground. (taking falling damage if nescesary). Once he is deown he will feel his way to a wall to keep his back to. He will then reload his crossbow.

Jhank'kor's training and experience wash over him. It has not been the first time he has been blinded--indeed, one of the harshest things was to fire a ray of frost at a fire mephit while blind-folded and anchored to the ground. 'Bloody critter nearly scorched my Githborn arse ten times before I made his short existence a frigid lesson of pain...time to teach a Zerai such merits as well.' The mage allows his mind to drift from its hidden alcove to press his thoughts toward Gy-Nath. 'How do you propose I aid you without arcane ends? I have but a few baubles to deal with such matters...'

While probing with his aural senses, the warlock feels through his cloak's inner pouches, trying to sense what crystal might possess power to aid this change in the situation.

Daraz, Jhank'kor, and Gy-Nath fumble around in the darkened hallway, slowly advancing so that nobody may slip past them. Daraz moves toward the stairs, but runs into the Bartender on the top step. Already back on his feet, he starts feeling Daraz's clothes. "Finn, izzat you? Zorb? Who've I got? Did Dak get'm? Unhende basher, that Grazz, we're gonna skin'm. ... ... uh, Finn? Zorb?"

Meanwhile, Rey, the only sighted individual, swifltly descends the pile of blinded, cursing pirates, dodging several clumsy attempts to grapple him as he steps on a head, stomach, or groin as he makes his way down the stairs. The pirates are still sorting themselves out, and a few are hitting each other out of general impropriety, but no blades have been drawn. Rey'arteb reaches the bottom of the stairs and begins ministering the fallen Grazz. He cannot remove the bolt from Grazz's lung, not here, and the concussion from Du'minh's wicked flail is more dire in it's own way, so Rey concentrates on Grazz's fractured skull. Grazz dizzilly comes back to the waking world.

***

The darkness spreads, creeping across the room from the stairway, encroaching on the patrons.

"Do you desire aid, Du'minh of the Yanki Clan? Obsidian Orb will gladly render it. Your foes are my foes in This Now." she smiles, and Du'minh is struck for a moment by just how beutiful and exotic she is. She waves her hand over the smallest of the potted plants. The pot cracks, and the plant and soil fall instantly into a fine ash. The rest of the plants on the table wilt. Everyone in the room feels dizzy, and every gith's heart stops and struggles to re-start as the life energy is tugged towards the hungry vortex of Orb's arcane might. She collects the energy in her hand, then snaps her fingers and the darkness melts away.

Vivec is revealed, helping Grazz the Accursed to his feet, on top of a pile of pirates, one of whom is unconcious with Grazz's poison dagger in her leg, the rest of whom are struggling with their comrades to stand. The Accursed raises an eyebrow as the darkness is lifted and he spies Du'minh and Ar'dru. He cracks a enigmatic smile. Obsidian Orb returns Grazz's smile, then steps over to Du'minh and places her hand on his spiked shoulder-plate.

Grazz's smile melts. "Follow my lead, Grazz. This is going to get very dicey." he says to his companion.

***

The Bartender looks at Daraz confused for a moment when the lights come back on, then pushes him away.

"What? Hold it, you! You're the guys who took the room up here. By the spire, what's going on? You! Mage! This your doing?"
he snatches a handful of melting slush off the floor and shakes his fist at Jhank'kor. "You're gonna pay for every green's worth of dam ... What the ?!? The door! What'd you ...? You ... " his eyes bulge with anger but he makes no effort to shove past the trio for a better look at the damage.

Du’minh nods with appreciation to Obsidian Orb and then lifts his head to gaze with cold penetration at Grazz, right hand firmly gripped around the handle of his bonded Arbiter, still reddened with githzerai blood traces.
With firm, clear and solemn voice, he proclaims the matter of state for all to hear, his sight fixed at the Accursed:

“This worthless scum has sold out to the ghaiks beyond redemption, he has committed crimes that effect every soul in the Git’riban community and the entirety of gith-kind. He is an enemy to every descendant of the People, he is a thrall, a tool, a thief, and a traitor.”

“By my honour, this I swear: I shall have Grazz the Thrice-Accursed answer for his sins, and woe be to those that get in my way.”

OOC:
Du’minh delays for now while perceiving what effect (if any) his words may have had on the assembled audience. At the first hint of action he jumps into the initiative sequence, including any indication of Vivec intending to cast a spell.

Grazz grabs the crossbow bolt piercing his torso and pulls it out, spitting blood. He looks at Du'minh and begins to chuckle.

"Heh heh heh! Well, well, 'Grazz the Accursed is a thrice-damned filthy traitor.' Who told you that, mate? Traitor to who? Just what do you know, or what do you think you know? Which Grazz you mean, cuz I've got a helper who thinks he's me. Know why he thinks that? Cuz I want him to. Why do the 'lithis think I work for them? Cuz I want 'em to. The Silver Eyes rely on my darks, cuz I want 'em to. Everybody in Git'riban hates and fears me. I want 'em to. That's how I've survived. I'm not a githzerai, ya yanki berk, I'm just a street-rat from the Hive. I never really cared about all of your fuckin' wars, but hey, it's a livin'."

"Wasn't sure whether to try to kill you berks or not. You've killed me, that's for sure, even if you didn't know it, but believe it or not, I've never really been into vengance. Everybody's just trying to get by, no use getting sore about it. Business is business"

Behind Grazz and Vivec, the gith pirates at the base of the stairs are starting to rise to their feet. From the looks on their faces, it is obvious they do not share Grazz's ambivalence towards revenge.

The mage slayer’s face is set in stone, not even a slight flinch prompted by Grazz’ monologue and allegations.

“Your patterns of speech exposes your illithid-laced corruption, Grazz. You speak of manipulating all that you touch as if you would outclass even the tentacled ones. You are a planar rift in the concept of honour that needs to be closed.”

“So selling off your own brethren to a fate of ceremorphosis or worse is just business to you? Well, make no mistake, you’re my business now.”

"And just what business is that, Du'minh of Nor'mujin? Yea, I know a lot more about you than you do of me, Mage Slayer. Figures it'd be a blunt instrument like you that knocked me out of the shadow game.

"Is it your business to kill me now? What profit do you think that'll net you? Honor? Justice? Reputation? I'm a simple gith, all I've ever wanted was to survive, dispite a multiverse intent on tryn' to deny that one desire. You're a simple gith too. You hate the ghaik. Can't say it's not founded. In fact I know, in detail, ten times as many reasons as you do why every slimy one of the filth deserves to die a horrible, horrible death. I may not have killed as many of the evil little shits as you have, but I guarantee I've done them a hundred times the hurt you have over the years.

"So whad'ya want? List of contacts? Fellow traitors? Half the rooms in Illithid house? Heh, I'll giv'm to you and happy hunting! It'd only be a matter of time 'till I'm played out now anyway. Once you're no longer useful, you're dead in this game. Just remember that fellahs, 'cause I know who you are, and you know who you are. Which is more than I can say for some berks." Grazz reaches into Vivec's pocket and pulls out a greenish crystal shard, about six inches in length. As he brings it forth, his expression changes. He looks suddenly hundreds of times more confident, cocky, arrogant. He sneers at Du'minh, then pushes Vivec away [towards the bar] and stands up on his own. Du'minh can see no magic around the crystal, but a ring on Grazz's left hand is magically active.

Haven Port Inn - Upstairs

The bartender pulls the next few pirates in line to their feet before confronting the trio of githyanki again.

"You bubbers are payin' for every stinger, every green, hear me? I'm gonna take it outa Grazz's guts, but outa your purses! Water damage ain't cheap mage, and neither are doors. If you so much as nicked the furniture, your payin' for that too, hear me?"

Jhank'kor sneers as he stands upright, resting his forearms on his staff (in such a way to conceal his bandaged hand with the other arm). 'I tire of idle threats.' However, he wryly adds. "Don't give me that screed, mage. Point is that your group is paying for the damage, and I don't care if the jinx come from you, your mate Vivec, or a fhorge's arse. Just you wise up, 'cause yer on my ship now, swabbie!" The pirates behind the bartender chuckle, but he makes a big mistake and pokes Jhank'kor in the chest to emphisize his words.

Gy-Nath moves with sudden swiftness, drawing a dagger and holding it to the bartender's juggular. A single drop of blood runs down the gith's neck. "This is the dagger of Warlock Agyl-Kang. It's name is 'Silver Sheen', and you should thank it, for Kang was a far-sighted, patient, and deliberate githyanki. He would have advised against slaying or maiming you ... yet. I valued his tactical sense, hence why you are still whole at this moment. Had my hand found my own sword first, you may not have been so lucky."

"Oh, and nobody touches this Warlock, by the way." he adds, nodding towards Jhank'kor.

The pirates begin reaching for their shivs, but do not step forward to attack. One in the back does take out a pistol and starts to load it, though [a full round action].

Jhank'kor scowls at the notion of him ever being a companion to Vivec. The thrust sends him back a feeble step, tongues of fiery rage slipping past his control. When Gy-nath intervenes, the warmage relaxes a bit, recognizing the promise is being upheld from both sides. His visage stern, the warlock adds with a trace of a dour smile lurking at the fringe of his lips. "Your ship is a bit leaky, but that is what happens when a Zerai boards. The mage hunter shifts his stance the instant that Grazz pulled out the crystal, almost pouncing to attack as his ring went active, but holding back just barely.

"You have some nerve drawing parallels between us, Grazz, and you are presumptuous about my business: Slaying traitorous filth come second to garner information that might be used to strike out at the Great Enemy."

"That you hold no greater love for the illithid does not atone you for unforgivable sins, githzerai, so let's cut the self-justification crap, shall we? If you have the information you claim, you better put some action between those words."

"But no sudden moves, Accursed. You activate another of your tools, and I'll settle for the information that can be derived from your crushed corpse. If your knowledge of me is as great as you claim, you will know that I will die for a worthy cause without hesitation, taking my foes with me."

Grazz smiles sardonicly at Du'minh, and slowly crouches and sets the crystal on the floor, then kicks it away from himself. He seems to almost relax, his expression and manner conveying relief when the crystal leaves his presence.

"That's a resonance stone. The illithids imbune them with psychic impressions. Ones imbuned with docility are scattered about their slave pens, ones with hostility are given to thrall-soldiers, the ghaik themselves sometimes carry courage stones when they gotta go do something dangerous, you get the idea. This one's more complex. I'd call it hubris, but it's got some strange subtilties too. It was hidden on the body of the ulitharid you bashers dead-booked. Vivec's been totin' this thing around since he found it, no wonder he lost his mind, I mean, why it was so easy for me to convince him he's 'Grazz the Accursed'."

"So, if you want to know what I know, and how I know that that particular ulitharid didn't even know it was carrying this particular stone, you and me'll do some talking, Mage Basher."

"I gotts ta say, though, I do like your negotiating style." The Accursed spits another mouthful of blood on the floor. Both Du'minh and Ar'dru notice that Grazz's strenth seems to be returning quickly, dispite the grvious harm they inflicted on him. Du'minh even recognizes the make of Grazz's ring. It is a githyanki ring, the work of the Mlar. It is bronze with a bloodstone, and Du'minh knows it's type, or highly suspects, for he has seen a few rings like it before: a ring of regeneration.

The Rish remains on his guard but does not issue further threats. Though he is conflicted about not conclusively following up on this unique opportunity for punishing Grazz before he can recover, the cause of crushing Illithid House weighs more heavily.

The warrior looks carefully over the resonance stone on the floor before him, peering at Grazz to sense if the Zerth speaks truthfully about its purpose. Du’minh decides it better not to touch the thing in case of a trap, and taps into his natural mental gifts to lift it telekinetically from the floor. He draws it near to examine it floating and rotating before him, and if nothing happens, lets it glide into a pouch to avoid bodily contact.

Then the hunter turns his eyes briefly beyond to catch Gy-Nath’s attention on top of the staircase, and opens his mind with the hope that the fellow warrior will engage in silent telepathic communication between them.

“What do you think, brother? We must seize this chance of learning sensitive information, but I worry about traps and foul play.”

OOC:

OOC: Whoa, good catch! About time we shift off the Abyssal Layer of Natural Unos.

OOC- Yay, I suppose that's appropriate really given that I've been chomping on his neck for the past few rounds.

OOC: You could've waved the little Grazz-chunks in the air to provide a circumstance bonus. Heh.

Intimidate- 26

Ardru slowly licks some stray blood droplets off his upper lip to emphasise his point.

"Oh, no jest, duthka'gith. I know how you bashers negotiate. It's all or nothing with you, and had I gotten away, I'd have the advantage. As it stands tho, any deal where I get to walk out of here alive, I'll consider a bargan in my favor. I'll gladly tell you anything, and the more it hurts the ghaik the better, but it might be better if every son of Gith isn't listening in." Ar'dru can almost smell Grazz's fear, notwithstanding the cool front the Accursed tries to put forth.

Using far hand psi-like ability to pick up the stone, examine it, and pocket it without contact.

[Well, since we are talking a psionic item, far hand has the same effect as touching the stone, as the emotional resonance feeds back along the psichic energy.]

As soon as Du'minh begins manipulating the stone psionicly, he feels the emotion saturating the stone resonate back. Suddenly he feels superior, smarter, faster, better. What can stand against his power? Nothing! All his adversaries are mere worms, while he is like unto a god. The arrogange is nearly overwhealming, but it is not the do-or-die confidence of a githwarrior. No, it is the great pride of the illithid that assails Du'minh's emotions, the cold superiority and ruthless hubris of an alien mind.

[Du'minh runs the risk of remaining under the influence if he tries to pocket the stone anywhere on his person. He is free to drop it if he so chooses, but at his point it seems laughable that an item made by The Enemy should influence him negatively, for surely his mental fortitude is of such superior strength that no external force could possibly control him.]

[Hmm, yea. I don't think you're going to push past the pirates on the stairs, not without getting nicked. The situation is a little tense at the top of the stairs right now, but if you can think of a way to defuse it, or somrthing to say to the pirates that'll let you by, go for it]

Ar'dru nods, "Very well, disarm yourself and accompany the group back upstairs along with our old companion. You will be under my protection until our interview concludes and your weapons are returned."

As an after thought Ar'dru adds "Naturally if you try to conceal anything, be it weapon or knowledge, then our agreement is broken and I will take your head for further questioning."

"Naturally."

"Of course you know as well as I that giving up all my weapons and gear is tantamount to giving up my life. As much as I'm inclined believe any 'yanki that swears on the Liberator, I don't trust you bashers farther than I can toss a Tanar'ri. So what say I keep my blades, you keep yours, and we both keep an eye on each other."

"You seem to think that questioning my corpse will yield you information, but I might point out that you'd need to ask the right questions, and there'd be precious few of them. A living Grazz the Accursed will yeild so much more intelligence than a dead one. I realize the rub is how do you know what I say is the truth? I'll point out that my information was always accurate when the incentive was merely jink, while you stand to supply me with something I value infinitely more."

Ar'dru visably bristles "Do you question my honor little one?" he asks in a low deliberate voice. "I recommend you chose your next word very carefully."

OOC:
Should Du'minh roll a Will save to prevent giving in to its influence? Would his newly installed gem help him against the taint of the ring?
I mean, resonance stone, of course. Laughing out loud

"I would never question the honor of a githyanki. But an undefended life is no life at all. Surely you'd not give up your own blades, in any negotiation, so I am reluctant to give up mine. I haven't even bathed unarmed for many turns of the wheel. While I will take your word of honor, and I have no doubt your martial prowress is formidable, there are plenty of other bashers around here who want to open my gizzard, and I'd rather retain for myself some moderate hope of stopping that from happening, thank you. I didn't throw up my hands and surrender when you 'yankis jumped on me, so I don't think I'll put myself completely at your mercy now. Besides, we both know how much mercy githyanki warriors have."

"So, I think a compromise is in order. The ring is a regenerator, the amulet is anti-psi, and I have three sets of throwing spikes, one over each boot and another in the back of my belt. The spikes are in groups of three, and like the dagger before, are coated with a drow sleep poison. My shortswords are still upstairs. Incidently, one of my boots is still stuck in the hallway up there, and the throwing spikes with it, so make that only two sets on me now.

"Not that I expect you to believe any oaths coming from me, but regardless, I promise not to lead you astray. I do still want to hurt the ghaik, and talking to you cutters is the best way for me to do so, now."

Behind Grazz, the gith pirates glower and finger their shivs, but do not advance. This is due to not only the presence of Du'minh and Ar'dru conversing with Grazz, but also the Black Spears, who take a step forward when the first pirates do. Du'minh does notice, however, that Orb's hand left his shoulder when Grazz first called him "Mage Slayer."

No save, but it's just an emotion. Du'minh still has free will.

A mere stone cannot sway the spirit of a true warrior of the People. I am above such petty ghaik domination tricks.

Suddenly finding himself overtly competent, Du’minh directs the stone to fly into his possessions and sets his focus to resolving this scene. Leaning close to Ar’dru, he speaks softly so that Grazz cannot hear:

“I do not like the sight of that bastard anymore than you, my brother, but I think we should take him up on his offer. If his word is not true, we shall deliver our wrath swiftly.”

“However, I fear that Haven Port is no longer a haven at present, and giving Grazz the choice of destination would invite a trap by possible lackeys of his. Have you any ideas?”

Daraz lowers his weapon and trys to appear nonthreataning.

OOC: Daraz isn't much of a talker, can I jump off the balcony and move around to ther front of the inn? Is it reasonable to make a tumble check down the stairs to avoid AoOs?
