Oh, sleet storm doesn't do any damage. However, anyone who tries to walk in the area (say Vivec and Gy) now can't see very far as slush swirls around them. The floor instantly slicks, making anyone walking have to make DC 10 balance check. Failure means no moving...miss by five, you fall...and nat 1...well, that's up to the [Evil]DM  Eye-wink

With the wash of frosty water pouring into his burns and gashes, the warlock begins to drag himself toward his fallen comrade. He realizes it is pointless to yell into the airborne flood, but he still mumbles through chattering teeth. "D-darazz...D-darrraz...I-I'll gget him ffor you-u..."

As part of his lurch, the warlocks tugs the bandage from his head, wrapping the blotched rag tightly around his wrist to stem the blood loss. He slips in the sloshing frost, which drops him on his right shoulder. He curses his inability to move, especially since it means the accursed traitor would escape. The word "accursed" brings back to mind Grazz was stuggling with his companions. This draws more curses to his lips as he gathers himself to finish tugging the bandage tight.

Rey'arteb narrowly avoids getting getting knocked down by Gy-Nath as he rushes into the hall. Rey looks around the corner and onto the balcony just as a sudden snow squall materializes [ballance check as above]. He sees Ar'dru and Du'minh wrestling and brutalizing Grazz on the floor. The balcony is at the end of the hall, next to the stairs, and Rey sees the bartender pop his head up up, look for a few moments at the indoor blizzard with bewilderment, then go running back down the stairs. Rey tries to use his divine magic to command Du'minh to slip and fall [D, will save DC 13 (right? 10+ caster lvl 3?)].

Gy-Nath skates into the room to find both Jhank'kor and Daraz on the floor. Daraz pulls a healing potion from his field pack and applies it to his burns. Gy-Nath moves to help Jhank'kor to his feet. He stands warmage up and examines first the chal's injured wrist, then looks into his face. Gy-Nath's eyes widen in terror and he gives Jhank'kor a shove! "What is this?!?" he cries, "You whose brain is aflame with accusations of treason bear a mind-mark!?! Thrall! Tool! Pawn!"

Jhank'kor glares at the superior with confusion, his mind still thirsting for the blood of Vivec. Then he remembers the oozing scar on his head, which draws him to jerk his hand to cover it. Shame scorching through the veins of his face, the proud servant of Gith replies, "TOOL!?! You mean fool! I trusted him! I TRUSTED THE DAMNABLE YANKI SWINE who led my men into the ghaiks' eager maws!!! And THIS is what I get for it!" The mage convulses in a spasm as his mind reels with images of his warband being butchered by ghaik, caught unprepared and off-guard.

Swallowing harshly, the mage continues in a rasp, his eyes roaring with pain, loss, hate and shame. "Have you seen it? Their tentacles pulsing with greed? Bulging as the muscles press hard tips through porous skulls, spraying the grey-black blood of honest warriors onto the ground...their contented slurps as they inhaled brave Ghaill'ix and hard-headed Wirdhev'lu..*choke*...wasn't hard enough..."

Suddenly the chal's disfocused gaze returns to bore into Gy'nath's. "They couldn't control my mind, so they trapped my body...and gave me this." The warlock spits the last phrase as he presses an indignant finger to his temple.

"Do not let another traitor steal off with our victory--Vivec seeks to free Grazz!"

Throughout this whole ordeal, the psychic warrior hears the chal intone mentally, "Search my thoughts and see if I speak truth..." There are no wards, mental or mystical, to the deeper notions so long secluded within Jhank'kor's bitter heart.

I'm glad it was a psionic comrade to discover it first. Eye-wink

Diplomacy: 20 (oops, cut out too much with my penalty in the roll below. lol)

Ohhhhh boiii...awakening those memories isn't good for Vivec. I hope someone can cast mindblank or the chal will be blowing up more than one room

It is a touch of dévà vu, reminding him of many a ghaik mage in the moments before their slime-glistening heads exploded with a spiked ball of steel taking that place.

Du’minh hears Vivec’s voice intone the words of the spell, understands the mystical echos for what they mean, and shields his mind from the intrusive effect as he has practiced time and time again in the sacred training halls of Jhe’khel Ketri Rishla-i-Challa.

“You should know better than pressing shalk against me, Vivec… If that is your real name.”

Hearing the divine caster’s voice to be very close yet its source hidden from the mage slayer’s view, Du’minh pushes his sight into the magical spectra to see if he can detect auras besides those originating from visual combatants, as he beats on the githzerai they have pinned to the floor.

“Ar’dru, it would seem the others speak true - Vivec is no brother of ours. We cannot let him free Grazz.”

Figuring it would be better to speed up the subduing, Du’minh elbows Grazz to knock the air out of him, and follows up the strike with a hook for his temple.

OOC: Assuming Du’minh made his save here. Two grapple checks to deal damage.

Gy-Nath of Ironrock locks eyes with Jhank'kor the Dark. The warlock feels first the giph's emotions, an utter calm and focus of purpose, then he hears Gy's voice in his head.

"Jhank'kor, hear me, heed me. I have no doubt whatsoever that you speak truth, chal, or at least what you believe to be the truth. But that's the rub, isn't it? For what it's worth, I am not absolutely sure of your thralldom, for I saw you slay a ghaik in the Heart of the Void. Still, you bear several marks of a thrall, Jhank'kor, and not just a physical one. You are obsessed with ferreting out traitors, which may be a subconcious implant to make sure you remain one yourself. You have hidden your mark from others, purposefuly I wonder? Or were you programed to hide it? You have poor control of your emotional state, as I noticed from the first.

From where I stand there are four possibilities; First, that you are indeed a thrall of the ghaik, whether you realize it or not. If this is the case the safest thing would be to slay you right now, but I am not sure enough of this at the moment to take the life of a brother.

Second, that the ghaik tried to brainwash you but did not complete the job. This seems likely to me, but we will never get to the truth unless you calm down and start trusting me.

Third, that you are not brainwashed at all, just marked. If this is the case then you are not being influenced by the flayers, but are instead mentally unbalanced in your own right. This too makes sense if you went through what it sounds like you have, for the mark goes deep, I know.

Lastly, and the most disturbing possibility, is that you are completely enthralled, but the ghaik saw fit not to avert you from slaying their kind. If this is the case it turns what I know of the enthralled, and indeed of the ghaik, on it's head.

Hear me, Jhank'kor, heed me. Let me bandage your wrist. I must do so in a manner that keeps you from casting most spells. By taking the blade of your power, I pledge my blades to you. You shall not come to harm while my hands can hold a blade, nor while the blade of my mind remains sharp. Should you turn false my blades will meet yours. Choose."

The chal's eyes bulge at the motion of surrendering himself to the hilt of another. He hesitates as the anxiety presses against the invisible notion of enclosing walls. It is like when we are told to blindfold ourselves and follow another's voice, incapable of direction on our own. So, too, came this decision amid the unseen fear to Jhank'kor, proud warmage of the Lich Queen, member of her Onyx Band and zealous vassal. But, so too, came the realization he had a comrade who would finally support him. Blowing his nigh illimitable ire out in a long, ice-laced sigh, Jhank'kor presents his hands forward for the warrior to bind the wounds as he must. Utter calm now present in his pure black gaze, the chal says quietly, "I hope to one day be free of this, Gy'nath...though it fed me their thoughts, from which I could better attune by spells against them, I would rather have grown and died clueless--and thus unempowered--than to see so many slaughtered..."

He pauses to keep his all-too-eager rage from resurrecting in the ashes of sorrow. Glancing toward his scorched companion, the warlock says, "So, he deceived us, Daraz...I'm sorry, friend. Let this be our only taste of the Nine, shall we?" He face sprouts a feeble attempt at an honest grin, though decades of hatred tug it toward the form of a grimace than a kindly smile.

On the balcony, Ar'dru and Du'minh continue to try to subdue the remarkably fierce Grazz. The job is complicated somewhat by the sudden blizzard. Grazz uses the slickness of the floor to finally be able to wriggle out from under Ar'dru. He uses his newly freed hand to jab at Ar'dru's eyes with his thumb. The attempt fails to poke out an eye, but it loosens the duthka'gith's jaw-lock on on Grazz's shoulder enough for the slippery zerai to escape with some tearing of flesh. Du'minh, meanwhile, pounds on Grazz's face and ribs. The wind goes out of the githzerai's lungs, but none of the fight seems to leave him.

A strike with the dagger is turned aside by Du'minh's armor. Ar'dru continues to wrestle with Grazz, who is now bruised, battered, and bleeding. His right shoulder is soaked in blood, and he winces with pain, but a fierce look of defiance fills his stare, a look as unlike a thrall's vacant determination as can be.

I think it's one check (his 1st attack) that has to beat everyone else's grapple. But I'll check again, just to be sure.

You should be good for moving at half speed since you beated the Balance DC, though to my understanding of the scenario, you'll have to go through Ar'dru and Du'minh to reach Grazz with a touch spell.

[DMing - Rey passed his balance check, so he can stay upright and move at half speed. Grazz is currently still grappling with Ar'dru, though no longer pinned down. Du'minh no longer has a hold on him, but is still pummeling Grazz with armored fists and elbows. Rey can make a melee touch attack vs a touch AC of 16 to bestow the spell on Grazz, due to the fact that he must bypass the two big warriors to do so.

Edit: or Rey can turn himself back invisible to try and escape Du'minh's ire.]

[D, does Du'minh have quickdraw? Because the flail was not in his hand when he was grappling with Grazz. Most likely, he crashed through the wall with it, but dropped it on the floor in the balcony when he and Ar'dru started wrestling Grazz. So, for your AOO, you can draw a secondary weapon and attack (if you have quickdraw), or just punch Vivec and try to disrupt the spell. As the magic energy fizzles between the necromancer’s fingers, Du’minh delivers a cold defiant threat to Vivec and turns his attention yet again to the wrestle between Ar’dru and the Accursed.

“I will dissipate your life faster than your spells, false Art-weaver.”

Seething with anger, the Rish reaches down for his heavy flail and swings furiously at the deadly Grazz, seeking to end the exchange abruptly.

[Edit: Gy-Nath's ballance check a nat 20! He supports an otherwise unsteady mage]

A spiked elbow to the face ruins Vivec's spell, but Ar'dru loses his hold on the Accursed as the slippery 'zerai twists out of his cloak and sprints for the door. The duthka'gith's claws rake his opponent, but he is left with bloody paws full of nothing save a torn grey robe.

Du'minh snatches up his flail from the floor and swings at the fleeing Grazz. The Rish-i-chal is a few steps behind, and the blow is glancing, but it catches the githzerai in the back of his unprotected skull, and Grazz drops his dagger. He stumbles out into the hallway only to get stuck in the shoulder by a crossbow bolt from Daraz. Grazz pitches forward towards the stairs, and crashes directly into the bartender, at the head of a brace of gith pirates running up the stairs. The group of gith collapse like dominoes down the stairs, with Grazz trying to swim over the heads of the falling gith. The bartender yells Sigilan obscenities.

[If Daraz moves down the hall, and/or if Du'minh and/or Ar'dru pursue Grazz off the balcony, they see him, bleeding profusely, wrestling with no fewer than a dozen gith on the stairs. The Bartender is strugling back to his feet on the second or third stair down. Everyone's attention is, for the moment, centered on Grazz, who is still struggling with a staircase full of gith.

Gy-Nath helps Jhank'kor shuffle down the hall, so they can see what's going on at the end of the round.]

I don't suppose Daraz can fit into the melee. If he can, he will persue and attack. Failing that, he will put away his sword and pick up and load the crossbow and than use true strike and attack.

[DMing: Grazz is in the middle of a chaotic hog pile at the moment. Daraz can move up, reload, and shoot into the melee if he so desires, but Grazz will have 75% cover, so your attack roll will be vs AC 23, and any miss will have a chance of hitting one of the gith trying to wrestle him.

Alternately, you can move up and try to keep Grazz covered in case he manages to break free, or you can advance with sword drawn, or jump in with and try to get a few licks in yourself.

This also goes for Ar'dru and Du'minh. They can run after Grazz and dive into the pile or stay on the balcony and deal with Vivec. The archway to the balcony is right next to the top of the stairs, so they can sort of see what's going on, but not if Grazz is being successful in fighting free or not. Judging by sounds coming from the stairs, he's still full of fight, but he has many gith to fight through.]

Du'minh will again take the attack of opportunity as Rey casts his spell... and this time, he's using his mage-beating flail.

I take it Ar'dru is also treathening the githzerai, so he would probably take his AoO as well.

As Vivec tries yet again to cast a spell in the presence of the Rish-i-Chal, Du’minh responds in force to break his magic a second a time with a mighty swing of his flail.

“You are not a fast learner, Vivec; let me knock some sense into that stag-turning head of yours.”

OOC:
Sorry Trias, but I guess you should have seen this coming. Sticking out tongue

Total damage only came up to 15, however, so the Concentration check to maintain the spell is 25.

[O.K. the scene is thus: Vivec tries to follow Grazz and cast darkness. Du'minh whacks him with his flail, a follow-up swing to whacking Grazz. Daraz reloads and advances down the hall aiming his crossbow into the pile-o-gith. Jhank'kor, supported by Gy-Nath, shuffle down the hall after Daraz. Everyone is moving into a position where they can see what's going on.

The hallway, however is not much over 5'wide, so it's pretty much single file for everybody. So it goes from stairs-up: Pile of gith pirates and Grazz; Bartender; Vivec; Du'minh/Ar'dru (coming out the open doorway of the balcony); Daraz; Jhank'kor/Gy-Nath.

So far, the Bartender's full attention has been on Grazz.]

I told you, Sod, I'm not Vivec - I'm Grazz the Accursed!!

The defiant gith grunts on, barely ignoring the force of the flail on his chest- and finishes casting.

Thank goodness you rolled a nat 1 on damage - it could have equally gone the other way-- towards the nat 20 Sad

OOC:
What would it seem like Grazz’ options are for escape? How many exits from Haven Port besides the main door? I’m considering having Du’minh jump down the balcony if the fall isn’t too damaging, run to the front door or wherever Grazz is headed, then move to cut him off (in case he somehow makes it out of the crowd of giths jumping on him).
