Wow, we've finally got a bit of a population going don't we? It's good to see our daily post count go up along with our user count...

So, this was an idea floated to me in email lately and I wanted to see how the forumites here felt about this. We can probably start splitting up for more boards on the forum now that we have enough people. (I didn't before because I didn't want to see crickets chirping all over the place in the silence.)

How would you folks feel if certain sections got revised, or split up?

Would you like a board dedicated to each of the special features we have on the webpage to discuss the postings there?

Are there any board ideas that you've had in mind that you'd like to see here? Please keep in mind that a board is going to generate any number of threads - so the subject for the board should be pretty broad to encourage that.

Do you feel that splitting up some boards right now (as opposed to later) would spread us so thin that we'd end up falling apart?

Please, make your comments and if you've got some good arguements one way or the other, say em. I like to take in feedback before I make changes like this - it tends to be good advice.

I think the Roleplaying section should be spliit into a Roleplaying thread area and an Out of Character thread area. I mean there isn't much traffic now but if it ever does get really busy be nice to have a seperate area to hatch plot threads, talk about the thread/game, or whatever else thread roleplaying related.

A board strictly for the subject of material development would be nice.

In general, I like the forum arrangement the way it is.

However, as long as you're fishing for possible alterations... How about a section strictly for content on Sigil, and a separate section for material on the Inner and Outer Planes. You could include the Transitives in that section if you wanted to, or give them their own section. It's simply an idea, as we all know that some planewalkers here have specific interests when it comes to the setting.

Maybe even some individual race sections would be a start...

Now see, I was under the impression that Creative Contributions was for art, fiction, and in-character writings. I thought that material development fell under RPG Discussion.

Maybe there should be three where there were two: Creative Contributions for art, fiction, etc. RPG Discussion to discuss the setting in general, and another one specifically designated for rules development.

Creative Contributions is a very vague name, and I've never known what is supposed to go in there.

I would suggest having a 4-5 topic sections based on some simple classifications, eg:

Guvners - Rules
Cutters - People
Portals - Places
Snail Outfitters - Things, Equipment
Creature Codex - Monsters

and perhaps a General area for all sundry non-specific discussions. I like the topic areas at the bone-box rattler, but they're very finely sliced and too numerous. Having topic areas makes it easier for people to post because they know what is expected in a given section.

I think people are contemplating too many sections. People would get lost and couldn't navigate efficiently, and there would be sections that never get posts. We need to promote activity, and having too many sections means that no one will be able to keep track of ongoing threads and it'll all get lost and we'll have a stagnation of activity.

How so, Rhys? I think Krypter's suggestion is spot-on. The ambiguity of some of the forum categories at the moment promote more confusion.

Narfi and I were under the impression that there was no forum dedicated strictly for rules development while Clueless had a plan of which board was supposed house such discussions. Clearly that shows the delineation of the forums at this point is circumspect at best.

I think Krypter's list is a bit too long, how about this?

- Chant of the Planes
:This would be a place for Sites, People, and stuff. This is stuff you can use in your game without any stats involved. Here you can discuss the heirarchys of the rilmani, the courts of the eladrin, or the vast acid mines of Earth.

- The Hall of Records
:A place where numbers and maths are highly important. Newly statted monsters, new feats, new classes, new PrCs, systems for belief points or action points, etc. There can be interplay betweent he Hall and the Chant as fluff and details are worked on in Chant and stats can be worked on in the Hall.

- The Civic Festhall
:A place for fiction and art. Small bits of fiction can be in Chant or the Hall, but big pieces of stand-alone fic should go here.

And that seems to have enough deliniation for all!

I think we should definitely have a section for Rules, and one for General chit-chat. Others are negotiable and may not be necessary at this time. The more people we get, the more they'll be jibber-jabbering about nothing in particular. Just look at the weird topics in the Creative section.

if someone rearranged all your furniture and put it back...

Well we shure got rearranged, but good, didn't we?

I like the new categories, except I'm not sure why OOC Game Talk would be in a separate section. Won't it be awkward and time-consuming to have to switch between sections to talk OOC? Don't people just write OOC stuff at the bottom of their posts in a different block or colour anyway?

That's more to make arrangements than for ooc during a game - it's for game announcements or recruitment. T'was by request- if it doens't see much use then it'll be remerged.
