Hi, I'm new to Planewalker.com, but I love Planescape (mostly due to Planescape: Torment). This is my version of the infamous demon of allure and lust, the succubus! She's a little different from the standard versions, her arms and legs are covered in a scaley-sort-of substance, which I thought worked well. I wrote a little introduction for her, as if a party encounters her for the first time. I hope you like it! Any comments are welcome.

The being before you immediately takes your breath away. She looks like a humanoid of perfect form; her face is easily the most beautiful you've ever seen, with full, smouldering lips and dark, mysterious eyes that draw you to her. Her body moves in a way that accentuates every curve, while her long dark hair flows like it is constantly being russled by a soft etheral breeze. You hardly notice her clawed hands, or her scaled legs, or even the pair of dangerous yet captivating wings on her back, for on this body it all seems perfect. She smiles with fanged teeth as you approach. You know you would do anything for her if she asked it of you.

*The next fiend I'm working on is the Erinyes, which should be finished soon. Thanks for looking!

Her hips/thighs seem a TAD small, but otherwise, very nice!

I guess you decided to go without tail/horns?

Ok, here is my version of the Erinyes. She is quite different to the "lawfully evil succubus" version; I thought that was a bit old, and I always saw the Erinyes as corrupt punishers and torturers, so keep that in mind when looking. Again, any comments welcome!

(I had a little trouble scanning the wings because of the paper bubbling a little, so excuse the ridge on the left wing.)

I haven't had time to think of a monster encounter for her just yet, but I'll edit the post later when I think of one.

@Swiftbow: Thanks for your comment! Yeah I opted for no horns/tail on the succubus, in my opinion it makes them look to much like the female devils (Glasya, Fierna etc.) and I like my fiends to have a little diffrentiation (sp?) between them.

Nice detail - I particularly like the folds of cloth off her breastplate. It has a nice weighty hang to it. Out of curiosity - is the odd thing you're doing with their ankles/heels (or lack thereof) because they're both winged species so you're going for the avian 'percher' style foot?

'Digitigrade'. Gnolls do it, too, although gnolls look less like a bird of prey. Sometimes I claim arcanaloths should also be digitigrade, but I'm not entirely sold on that idea yet.

I'm familiar with digitigrade legs - it's just that usually the effect is a much longer 'foot' length - where it's harder to mistake for poor anatomy or 'missing high heels' syndrome. In this case I'm not sure what the effect being aimed for is, is all.

Um, what odd thing with their lack of ankles? I have drawn them on each monster. I can understand it being a little hard to tell on the succubus because of her scales covering the ankles, but they are there, and the erinyes ankles are right there, so I'm not really sure what you mean by saying there's a lack of ankles.

As for the heels, it's just the positioning of the feet, as they are arched up on the both of them, I just thought it looked cool. It's not poor anatomy, the heel is raised when the foot is arched, and can seem to be a little smaller. I wasn't really aiming for any real effect with the feet, it was more the body as a whole. But thanks for the feedback Clueless, I guess it means I have to work my creatures feet some more.

I keep thinking these would make effective Blood War recruitment posters.

Great artwork, I like it very much! Also your succubus description fits nicely. I have only one sentence to criticize:

Quote:
You know you would do anything for her if she asked it of you.

Unless the character was charmed already, it's better NOT to imply what he thinks or what he'd do - this is still up to the player, after all. Even WHEN charmed, the spell doesn't make him (or her) a mindless puppet.

A real good DM will get the player to let his character do anything for the succubus without ever telling the player he has to Eye-wink

Besides that, as said, great work!

Have fun,

Heiner

Hi, sorry for not replying for a while, just letting you know I'm not dead or anything, and I'll be continuing my drawings soon enough if things go according to plans. Thanks for your great comments everyone, I really appreciate it! The next demon I'm intending to draw is a Marilith, then, if time allows, the Queen of Succubi herself, Malcanthet! Wish me luck.

What can I say: like them. Smiling

The best thing about demons is: they are chaotic fiends so they are little diferent fom each other. (You can draw with diferent cosmetic details each time. ) Smiling

As for Erinyes I like it too, but personaly I dislike way that 3.5e shows them as combat fiends.

Now, to keep the ball rolling...

I present to you all the Marilith, demon of pride and chief strategist to the demonic armies (if the tanar'ri can comprehend strategy... Laughing out loud ).

Again, haven't thought of a monster encounter yet, but I should eventually. (If anyone can think of a good one, post it!)

Now back to drawing... and thanks for looking!

Wery good! Wery original! She is one true demon from 10 000 hells. Laughing out loud

When you look at her you wish for a Succubus kiss and Erinyes hug. Laughing out loud

Anyways did you read Blood Wars novel? There they mention Marilith with praying mantis head (I rememer it because it was original idea).

Keep the good work.

Thanks again for your comments! Out of curiosity, does anyone know of any more female tanar'ri/baatezu/loths?

No, I don't own any Planescape books I'm afraid, all my reading is done on the net. My first experience of a marilith was in Icewind Dale (Yxonumai I think...). That does sound like an interesting idea though!

There are shapeshifting Yochlols, minios of Lolth (Queen of Spiders), who hawe 3 forms: one is beautiful yet sinister looking female drow, one is gigantic spider, and third form is shapelles mass of oozig flesh with one gigantic red eye.

You can try female Maurezhi, also sapeshifting fiendish canibals with features of ghouls and large cats. (they can take shape of people they eat.)

Also, there are some new female fiends in books: Fiendish Codex I & II, but I dont know them by heart, I hawe to look them up. Sad

Oh, I hawe remebered thig about Yochlols: they can shapeshift in any human halfelf or elven female they can think of (or any elven subrace). They just prefer drow females.

There's only one really in FCI, it's the Lilitu which simply look like succubi with charred wings and a set of four tendrils with talons coming out of their back. FCII is the Brachina, but really it's simply the designers of that book trying to refill the void left by the Erinyes when they changed their roles around.

Of course you could always have a female Kelvezu as an attractive feminine Tanar'i. And with the Baatezu you could try with a female Falxugon/Harvester Devil as an attractive female form.

Yes, but in monster description says that Lilitu hawe "4 stinger tails", and it does not says where they are located on Lilitu´s Body, since each Lilitu is uniqe they could be anywhere: like head or they could even retract in her body. Smiling

Viva artistic freedom! Laughing out loud

Oh, and Lilitu allso hawe hoofs.

I guess I was just thinking of Baxa's drawing without reading the description. I do remember Erik Mona or one of the Dragon Magazine writers saying they weren't too pleased with that one, and commissioned another Lilitu art piece for the Radiant Sisters in the Malacanthet article. And the radiant sister is a lot closer to the description.

What can I say: personaly I don´t like Baxa that much.

As of female fiends there is Alu-fiend, female counterpart of Cambions (Alu-fiends come from union of men and succubus), alas in 3.5e they are basicly humans with half-fiend template. Sad

Here is another idea: all hags start as beautiful maidens before they mature and turn into crones, so you could draw immature wersion of night hag. Smiling

And now for the demonic tempter of the faithful everywhere - the Lilitu! Born from a profane ritual of flesh and flame, these tanar'ri are an advanced form of the succubus, and they share many traits with their fiendish sisters. However lilitu can be far more dangerous to encounter, and their bodies have mutated significantly (a more primal form compared to the refined succubus) to encompass their honed evil instincts. I doubt we'll find any of these little misses becoming chaste and doing clerical work Laughing out loud

As stated earlier, the Brachina is next (and expect something quite a bit different to the FC:II version). After that, I have yet to decide... suggestions are welcome!

I like the pose amd the way the legse are crossed, those scales under her knees open to the movement of those un-reptileish feet.

I can imagine her demonic(or other) slaves comb her hair for hours.

She kind of reminds me of Morrigan from the Darkstalkers(pulp fighting game and anime). She could have shapeshifted her sucubbus like wings into various sort of fighting appandages.

Your lilitu is graet, she has such a cuuute face, but berk must be careful, for that face is just a distraction for those stingers.

I m lookig forward to yours brachina.

Anyways, here is some more ideas for Fiendish Females:
Female kython (aka chain devil) could be wery interestig as deadly exotic dancer.

Narzugons (baatezu elite armored chavalry who ride nightmares) maybe look as wallking/riding corpses, but Female narzugon could be done as a pale beauty. Beautfiul but stern (and deadly) Blood war veteran.

As the demons have found ways to improve their kind through different means, it did not take long for the devils to catch on and develop their own advanced forms as well. Evolved from the erinyes, the brachina is lawfully evil seduction given form. Whereas the lilitu takes the primal aspects of the succubus and expands upon them, the brachina subdues her devilish nature, refining it to become a perfect form to tempt mortals to embrace evil laws and all their delicious agonies. Their sexually charged, torturing nature has given them the name of Pleasure Devils. They are not fighters (unlike the erinyes) preferring to charm and deceive their enemies to do their bidding.

Having a fondness of leather and spikes, a brachina is over 6 feet in height, not including the platforms. Smiling

I hope you like her, and thanks for all your comments on my previous drawings!

Like joyblood once stated: This is getting better and better.

She reminds me of a lady minion from PC game; "Dungeon Keeper 1&2" for some reason. She has also enjoyed to torture (and to be tortured by her master-you) enemy adventurers until they turn to dark side.

Anyways: what´s next, what´s next?

I *like*. I can see a marked improvement in the anatomy of your sketches the more you've worked with them. And this one just has a really good *balance* to the figure - it gives her a feeling of mass and volume. I like that coy little smirk she has going. Excellent work. Actually I used Tony DiTerlizzi's drawing of the erinyes as inspiration for that- his version showed their seductive side before 3rdEd changed them to be more combat orientated, and I wanted to incorporate the origins a little Smiling

I believe you're thinking of the Mistress unit. I can see now where there are similarities, it's because I was going for that whole bondage/s&m look- I like mine more though Sticking out tongue

Quote:
Anyways: what´s next, what´s next?
I'm not sure just yet. I've had enough of fiends for now... I've been focused on uni work for a while, and now I can draw what I want to again. I currently want to sketch my D&D characters cause they've all been floating around my head for too long screaming to be given form! Also, I want to have a go at drawing some other outsiders- namely celestials.

That's not to say I wont go back to fiends- I love them too much, and still hope to show you all some more of my own versions [specifically an alu-fiend, Malcanthet, and some male fiends too!] I'll probably start a new thread for these newer drawings though, so it'll be a while before this is updated again.

Also, I want to start working with colour again... it's been ages since I last coloured my works! And I also want to get my Deviant Art gallery up and running, and I have several games waiting to be played (FF XII, God of War II, Okami...) so I'll be busy busy busy Smiling

Quote:
Don't be surprised if I beg to use her for the PSCS
I'm fine with you using her and any of my drawings for whatever you want as long as you credit me (although I have no idea what the PSCS is...). The reason I've been re-drawing fiends that already have been given form is because they can sometimes look a little bland, and I hope that my versions possibly give others inspiration and allow them to explore different avenues of representation Smiling

Quote:
- how good are you at guys? Eye-wink
I like to think just as good as I am with girls, the reason I've been focusing on the ladies is because I feel they can sometimes look a little too much alike, and I wanted to portray them more individually (and it gives me the excuse to draw something pretty Sticking out tongue)

Sorry for rambling on, but I hope that answers a few questions. Thanks so much for your comments though, I love good feedback Smiling

Nice to see that there are still artists working in the Planescapes milieu. I was very much disappointed when WoTC yanked support from Planescapes in favour of the generally unappealing, in my eyes at least, Eberron setting. On the whole, I was underwhelmed by what turned out to be, ultimately, yet another sword-and-sorcery in a more swashbuckling mould, but still not immediately distinguishable from the Tolkiensque stock stuff out there. Kudos to those who keep the Planescapes flame alive (and, I must say, they ought to re-issue Planescapes:Torment, which was by far the most intelligent RPG ever made and one of the few times I have been impressed by a computer game).
