Ethereal/Energy/Para/Quasi Genies?

Ethereal/Energy/Para/Quasi Genies?

I was wondering if there are any genies that are native to the other inner planes or the ethereal (since it is so closely associated to the inner planes in Planescape).

Frostburn introduces genies

Frostburn introduces genies of ice and cold, the Qorrashi, that could be included easily enough as residents of the Paraelemental Plane of Ice.  Tome of Magic, I believe, also introduces the Khayal, genies of Shadow that live in the City of Onyx on the Plane of Shadow.  Other than those two, though, I don't think there are any others in canon.

A player of mine is going

A player of mine is going to playing one of the Khayal, shadow genies in an up coming planescape campaign.

 After being caught in a lie he will be in service to a Yakfolk. (check the Fiend folio for tasy genie contoling Yak flaoured goodness).

The genies of Planescape

The genies of Planescape draw from real-life traditions of the pre-Islamic Middle East, as well as the scriptures of Islam.  The djinn are said to be made of "smokeless fire," hence their identification with the Planes of Fire and Air.  They have the same type of conscience as men, are enjoined to worship as Muslims, and can be personally good or evil.  Shaytan are the evil djinn, and ifrits stronger versions thereof.  The djinni associated with water are the marids, and they are the strongest of the race (though personally still made of smokeless fire).  Iblis is the ruler of the shaytan, and makes his throne upon the sea.  There is no traditional genie associated with earth in the religious tradition; in D&D, the dao are the genies of Earth.

The janni are made of all four elements, and can travel to the various Inner Planes but must generally remain on the Prime. 

Men are made of clay, as is usual in such creation myths.  There is a site on Ooze where it seems the gods take gobs of clay to make mortal races.  It might be an intriguing mythological structure to have various sorts of mortal races be made from the various paraelemental materials: men and elves, dwarves and halflings and giants and the like, made from clay; dragons and dragonkind made from smoke; made from ice would be doppelgangers, mirror creatures, simulacra, and such, perhaps? possibly the psionic races? (it would explain their affinity for crystal substances).  And some category of mortal race made from magma or metal: perhaps artificial mortals, like the warforged.

Angels are made of light in the Islamic tradion.  This could lead to an interesting racial structure in which good exemplars are quasielemental, mixeing positive energy with an element, leading to angels of radiance, lightning, steam, and minerals, opposed by fiends of ash, vacuum, salt, and dust.  A historical Planescape game, set long before the current settled structure of the Outer Planes, might have even featured such beings!

I remember Al Quadim had all

I remember Al Quadim had all these types of "tasked genies" in addition to nobles of the Djinn, Efreet, Marid and Dao.  But most tasked genies were simply one of the 5 classic D&D genies who were altered to serve a certain purpose to fulfill the need of some task or caste.

Wasn't there a 3.5 prestige

Wasn't there a 3.5 prestige class based on a wizard who uses Djinn to fetch spells for him? May have been a dragon.

The sha'ir, yes, although it was a new core class, not a prestige class.  It was based on a core class from Al-Qadim in 2e that used the same concept; that's where the majority of genie flavor in D&D came from, really.
