Endless Planescape

Okay, my name is Otogi, as you might have already have guessed from it being displayed so favorably to the left over there. For those who know me, you're lying, and shame on you. For those who don't know me, I'm that guy who started that whole "God in Planescape" business. I would first like to say that I'm double sorry, one for bringing up such a heated topic, and another for feeling so good about doing it. I shouldn't, but I did and I do.

Now I wonder, with god or the creator or whatever really high title you seem to just give this guy, I wondering a separate but related - or not - subject: the Endless in the planes. And by this, I of course mean the entities from the Sandman comic or graphic novel...of course. Now, whether a bunch of moody avatars of the nature of the multiverse based on an 80's singer, a 90's indie guitarist, a 60's actor and a whole bunch of other influences is up to you. Or your players. Actually, just you. Sorry players. But, if you do think that these siblings belong in Planescape, as they are much in the flavor of it (or not), where are they and what do they do? How do their influences...you know, influence?

For example, on the subject of Dream; Is he the ruler of the Plane of Dreams, or just some demiplane called The Dreaming? Does his influence over dreams effect creatures from dreams, like the Qouri, and thus influence the kalashtar and the Inspired? Does this mean that all kalashtar and Inspired have poofy hair, black eye liner and kind of depressing auras around them by virtue of the qouri by virtue of Dream? Or something entirely different?

If you have any ideas about this and other Endless, please share it with us. Or don't. But I must warn you, your not gonna get any friends by withholding information about fictional aspects in a PNP that may or may not be accurate to somebody's standards, so please do.

Here is my thougt about this: if Dustmen knew that the Death is actualy perky goth babe (not that I have anything against perky goth babes), they would soon would be in need for new factol becaouse Skall's poor skull (and soul) would explode from Despair (heh).

After that Dustmen would reaname (The Perky Goth Babe Fan Club, TPGBFC for short) and would become the most popular faction on the planes.

As of new Endless I present you: Stupidity long lost cousin of Delirium and constant companion of Destruction, she is cosmic force onto herself but she is forever frowned on by other Endless becaouse her name begins on S and she cannot find her way out of wardrobe.
Also, Stupidity sometimes fills in for Death when she is too embaresed to come for people whose deaths deserve Darvin award. (She actualy cleans behind her becaouse she caused the deaths in first place).

I'm not sure if this that was meant to be taken seriously, but I can't help but feels that makes sense. S in particular has that kind of PS feel. To me, at least.

In all honestly, I'd be inclined ot say that the Lady of Pain is the closest thing to a member of the endless found in the setting. If you read Pages of Pain the vibe is kind of similar to the limited amount of exposure I've had to Sandman material. She is more, or less, the incarnation or avatar of the Pain of the multiverse.

To me the Endless would be in planescape sort of like Archomentals of the outer planes (something they presently do not have), however, it doesn't exactly work. Gaiman blended cosmo forces with morality and emotion, while Planescape rather explicitly seperates them via the Inner and Outer planes. Maybe the Endless are residents of the Ordial plane?

Not sure I buy that argument. They COULD be emotional, but I recall that story where the bunch went into the Necropolis and offed the entire city because they weren't doing their duty.

Nor were they omnipotent. When opposed by other Powers, they had to walk carefully. Heck, the whole point was that Dream was captured by Human Wizards!

I always like the Incarnations, though I tended to go with the Piers Anthony version: Death, Nature, Time, War, Fate.

But why couldn't they get mixed up in that? The only fly in the ointment is when you run into duplication. How does Kali/Shiva compare to Destruction? Both deal with the same iconic power.

If you go this route, you'll need to deal aggressively with pantheons and explain the interaction. Why Dream and not Love? Why Death and not Vengence?
