Encyclopedia Entry Linking (Yeah, I'm Probably Lost)

The forum index entry does say "Lost?" for this forum.

There are two types of Encyclopedia entry links.

1) A "search" link that brings up a list of pages where the pre-coded search-term can be located.

2) A direct links that goes straight to the page for the term in question.

Most Encyclopedia entries that I have seen are filled with type 1 links.

Every time I want to hyperlink to another entry, I have to wait for a search to complete and the results page to load, scroll through those results to find the direct link for the correct entry, and hyperlink again.

My question is, why?

I would expect the majority of links to be type 2, and I would expect to go straight to the page for the entry of whatever I was hyperlinking to.

This is indirect and time consuming.

Perhaps someone can enlighten me?

One programmer = not a huge amount of time. Eye-wink I'll see if I can add that to the to do list though.

Oh, I was just wondering.

The pages are editable for registered users, but I didn't want to make changes in a set up that appeared near-universal throughout the site.

Type 2 links take a little longer for the writers to make, since I have to look up the exact URL and past it in.

Type 2 links are also useful in some instances - for example, if you click on "solar" you get a list of all named solars.

I only bothered to make type 2 links in cases where the search doesn't work properly. An example is "Io" - Io is too short a name to bring up the proper entry anywhere near the top of the page. Or "Old One" - because the words are too common, it creates a blank entry every time unless I link directly to the URL.

But if you want to go and edit the posts, creating direct URL links yourself - more power to you.
