Double Square Brackets in the Wiki

I am not entirely sure that this is the right place to post this. I searched for the subject but did not get any related hits.

When I go to any Wiki pages, all the words you would expect to be linked to other Wiki pages are instead bracketed just like that. You can see the double square brackets directly, and hovering the pointer over it does nothing, there is no link there.

Is this just me?

Is my profile set incorrectly? (I didn't see any option that looked related.)

EDIT-------

Ok, the [[]] brackets created a link (that probably goes nowhere) here in this post, but I am still seeing the double square brackets in the Wiki.

Re: Double Square Brackets in the Wiki

The double square brackets used to create links to the appropriate article, like at Wikipedia. But for some reason that's broke now.

Actually, when we were first writing the wiki, double square brackets generated a search of the bracketed terms, pulling up the most relevant search results from the wiki's database. As a result, the whole thing was written in kind of a lazy way, with the assumption that (for example) bracketing "slavic" would bring up the "Eastern European Pantheon" article, and bracketing "slaad" would bring up not only the slaad article, but also the "slaad lords" article. Then Clueless rewrote the code so that it worked more like Wikipedia, but some of that early laziness (on my part) still shows.

Apparently now it has to be written using forum-style links, but I'm a bit too lazy to go through every wiki article and fix it. You should feel free to, though!

Aha! I had been thinking something about my viewing was broken.

So, URL link tags it is, then.

The double brackets *should* work - don't forget you can PM me. I completely missed this thread. I'll check our freelinking settings.

Ok there we go - not sure how but freelinking had gotten turned off in our wiki format. But everything should be working again Smiling My apologies for the delay in getting this one fixed - the thread just slipped through my radar entirely.

Thank you for taking the initiative RainofSteel - I know how many wiki articles there are and I wouldn't wish a clean up of that magnitude on anyone. It'd be a huge project.

If you are looking to tidy some things up it would be worthwhile to go through articles that list sources but don't have the sources listed in the source fields and move that information from inside the body text to the fields (eventually I want to make that a linkable search element but first we need to get the data in fields).

Alternatively, I know a lot of the articles also have image links in them - it would be good if we could get the images for those uploaded into the image field so the articles are less vulnerable to link rot.

If anyone's interested in either of those I can go rummaging in our database and get a rough list of articles in need of that sort of cleanup to make the search easier.

Well, that certainly saves me a lot of work. Laughing out loud

I'll get around to changing the two pages I worked on back to the double-brackets, as that is far easier to deal with.

Ok, how do I revert to a previous page? Or is that not possible? Do I have to manually edit them back to what they were?

At the top of the wiki page you're looking at - do you see a tab for revisions?

Ok, I've stopped being blind. I see the revert link now. Thanks.
