I read in the new book about the history of the Realms! Quite a shake-up...
Cyric and Shar kill Mystra?!?
Now if only all the Realms deities would kill each other off, and make room for a real pantheon...
BoGr Guide to Missile Combat:
1) Equip a bow or crossbow.
2) Roll a natural 1 on d20.
3) ?????
4) Profit!
No, this is a NEW death, not the one from the Time of Troubles, which is indeed "old news"... This is current events... The Mystra that was once the mortal named Midnight is the victim in this case...
Still, Mytryl/Mystra dying has been done a couple of times already so it isn't all that surprising. I'm sure The Lady of Pai... ahem, I mean The Lady of Mysteries will be up and around again in no time.

The Astral must have an entire section dedicated to corpses of Toril's power of magic. The 'loths must be having a field day and the 'yanki's appreciative of all the new building material. It is rumored that the Guardian of the Dead Gods formerly known as Anubis has taken to heavy drinking.
That's for sure! Incidentally, that old mad wizard from Undermountan also bit the dust (Hallaster? I forget his name... oh well, dead now!) Of course, he's not a deity, so Anubis doesn't have to deal with his mangy corpse... I always thought the Guardian of the Dead Gods was a cool idea; I see, however, that in Deities and Demigods Anubis's role in that capacity goes unmentioned... maybe there are multiple Anubises?
Yes, there are. The last issue of Dragon Magazine stated explicitly that a new Anubis replaced the Guardian of the Dead Gods.
As for Mystra, word is that she won't be replaced. She's gone now for the foreseeable future (though we'll see if that's still true when the 4e Forgotten Realms campaign setting is released).
Sounds to me like WotC is trying to "shake up" the Forgotten Realms by rehashing a bunch of old, well-worn storylines.
