Just a random and rather disturbing thought. The water has to come from somewhere right? As DM I'd probably allow this (it's risky for the PCs too) because it's creative. Just figured I'd share the randomness.
Create Weather Near the Styx?
yeah. that's nasty too.
How about summoning a water elemental since elementals are made from the stuff in the area they were summouned in?
(at this point I'd say no way in hell guys, please don't make me whip out my +5 vorpal munchkin slaying folding chair, yes, it is a vorpal folding chair.)
Usually those are drawn from the elemental plane of water...but extract water elemental is a spell that draws the liquid from a being. Any known styxian fish?? That might make a nasty combo (esp. if you had someone animate dead whatever critter you extracted from...giving you two monsters instead of one.)
Oh, I always keep one of those chairs in my trunk. Never know when you have to deal with someone taking your spot at the park...
Actually, Benyamin, according to the 2e rules, any elemental summoning spells must have a key to work in the outer planes and even then create said elemental from the surrounding planar stuff. Ergo, the elemental will have an alignment matching the plane on which it was summoned and will accordingly have some of the properties of the surrounding element.
weishan is thus correct, a water elemental summoned near the Styx will, likely as not, be made at least partially of Styx water. It's a neat idea, and I've always wanted to try it but never had the chance.
There is Teleran (I think, corect me if I´m wrong): a predator who looks like cross of shark and flying fish and, it is imune to styx effects, and it flys for short distances.
I know this is bit off topic, but here is one interestig idea: plant life that lives in close proximity of river styx (and uses styx water for its life) should also have memory draining effects.
This could be nasty trap in form of styx grown fruit or vegetables wich is distributed on prime (in hunger regions) by fiends, tso or neogi (or even prime cultists), and mindwiped people is then shipped away as slaves, food, soldiers or even as "new potential worshipers" across planes.
One-eyed, one-horned, flying, purple people eater says: "Monsters are nature's way for keeping XPs fresh."
Teleran killed my friend .
How about control water for that matter...flooding the banks could prove just as disasterous in certain situations.
