I see that in 4E, there are no rules for aging (specifically, there are no penalties to ability scores for being elderly, for example.) Also, most races are now described as aging at the same rate as humans (i.e a 12-yr. old Elf is about the same as a 12-yr. old human.) This would make the creation of child characters easier in the new edition, since you don't have to figure out what stage of development a 75-yr. old Elf equates to in human terms... (let's see, if I divide 110 Elf years by 15 human years, then... etc, etc...) However, since there are no penalties for age, the ability scores for children are going to be too high if you use the standard creation method: any suggestions? I think strength and Constitution should be lower than average for such a character; most would probably add Wisdom, but I've met kids that were wiser than some adults I know! And most kids would be one size category smaller than their adult counterparts. Anyone know where I can find average weight and heights for kids? Any help in this direction would be much appreciated!

Oh, come on, you know how these boards work! They're slower than astral hell!
Anyway, there are two ways to handle this. Either make it more of an ascetic choice with less Strength and Constitutionand more Dexterity and Charisma. Or you can subtract 2 from both STR and CON and give it to DEX and CHA. You can also make them halflings with different fluff

Hmm... how old should a character be when they make the switch from "Small" size to "Medium"?
What, nobody interested? A number of important Planescape characters got their start as adventurers before coming of age, including Erin Mongomery of the Sensates (a Cleric at 13), Allison of the Mercykillers (joined at age 11), and a couple others I found by digging thru the books. The inventor Xansist (name not quite right, but don't have the book in front of me) invented the first Arcadian Pony four-wheeled cab at age 8. None of you berks twig to the idea of child characters/npcs? ah, sod off, then...
