bothering the staff with annoying questions about the fourth Issue

Well, thats basically what I'm up to. Is there anything going? Dates, a new theme? Ran out of authors?

I've got an idea for a story that would span several issues, at least three, though I'd have to check a few sources so that it'd all make sense.

Uff, okay. I didn't check the entries that are.. that old.
I get the feeling that many many not-for-profit-projects have the same problems.

Unfortunately yeah Sad
there's just not enough volunteer manpower to go around. Now if someone happens to step up to the plate who wants to take over, and has the time, energy and general ability to be trusted to do so... then that's a whole nother thing and i'll gladly give the project over to them. Smiling

Wil someone please step up and help Clueless out? Alas that I am on the supply and patron sides of this. I can submit ideas, and I absolutely love the newsrags, but I have no idea how to actually produce one.

Wah.

Are you ... saying ... what I ... think ...

PLEASE let it be so. If there is someone willing to put together a screedrag, I'd be your culler.

That is to say, I'd give over a few submissions if there was someone willing to do something cool with them. An issue or three of The Lady's Sharper Eye might even win the site another ENnie for '08. (yay! rah rah rah! )

I know you can't depend on just one culler, so I'd be willing to do a little leg-work to get a few more on board. Like I indicated before, I can do creative, but not technical.

Ok, now. I'm not kidding.

Clueless used to have a space on Planewalker to submit articles for LSE. I'd like it ver much if clueless told C.P. what he could do to revive LSE. Or myself, for that matter. Would I need a full, authorized version of adobe, and if I had one could I teach myself how to us it? I probably only have the free download version now.

10cc's of adrenaline to the heart of this thread please, Kobold posing as Doctor.

I've said since the start that I can have articles out. Just nobody either asked me to do anything or told me where I could send things.

Whatever happened to the Old Eye anyway? Did everything just kinda fizzle when Sydney was mazed? Its been so long now I kinda forget :-s I miss writing for good old PW. It was my specialty and it was where many of us were happiest. No idea why it all had to change Sad

Let me get all the related files together into a zip file to hand to the right person as well as some setup space for you.

As for what happened - after my ill fated attempt to resurrect I realized I was trying to do far too much at once. Word which I had been using as layout was chewing my face off and making the creation of the mag take hours more than it should have. In the end, the Eye turned out to be the least critical project and able to be placed on hold.

My not getting back to you guys here is directly my fault, and somewhat related to my new workplace's belief that Planewalker is a porn site. Eye-wink

Before handing this one over completely I'd like to make sure you guys know what you're getting into though. Check your time and personal lives to make sure you've got the time to do it. Since this one is best as a fairly regular sort of release I would most love to have two people as co-heads for it, and you guys will need to promise to let me and your partner know you're bowing out if it gets too much.

Well, my problem is I don't know how to actually do the job. I can come up with content, and I have some ready to go, if someone else knows how to put it all together.

Then again, if it proves to not really be all that hard to learn how to put PDFs together ...

*gasp* Scary?!
*quickly hides wings and blood covered baatorian steel sword*
"opps."

Ok - a brief summation of the job such as it is. Smiling

You get your submissions and hound people to get more to you. Then you edit them into something resembling comprehensible dialect influenced english. Then you find images to go with them, and ads to go with them with nifty text. Then you crack open word (or whatever your layout program is wont to be) and assemble them. In word I've found text boxes linked together to be helpful to allow for text to flow from one page to the next. Use ads to make up for 'holes' in your layout. And eventually - if your copy of word hasn't ate it's face off - you use the 'Print as PDF' feature of your copy of Adobe to make a PDF of it.

That's very boiled down mind you, and subject to change if you have better skills at such things than I do. Really - the hard part is all in word (or whatever layout program you prefer to use) making a nice layout of the articles. Making it a PDF is fairly simple if you have a working full copy of adobe acrobat. You just hit the button to make it do it's magic.

I'm interested.

I wouldn't mind volunteering for something like this. I do a bit of drawing and writing about Planescape normally so this wouldn't be much of a chore to me. ^^

Though I personally don't know (or care >.> ) for the 3rd+ edition post-war stuff, I would definitely be able to work on ads and (un-related to the war) news section (muggings, lost people/pets, etc.)

I just don't know what it all looks like in completion. Is there any link to the old issues I could check out?

Edit: Found the papers! /sharper/index.php

And looking through the issues I definitely could gather some picture advertisements, sketches for the 'photos' area, maybe a couple 'Letters to the Editor', and some of the small column advertisements (lost and found, wanting to sell/buy, etc.)

I can't do this all at once though, would a slow trickle work? =)

We need a manager to do the heavier work. I simply have too m any things on my plate to give you the backup you would need to get this project up and running again. That's why I'm hoping one of the folks from earlier in this thread may find some time to take on this responsibility.

As do I; many things right now I'm working on. Especially career-wise.

I'll watch this thread and maybe toss some articles/images as I make 'em into a handy folder ready to ship out should anyone ever need it for the project.

OK, enough of this. I'm willing to take a stab at this, just realize that I'll be starting from zero sum of knowledge about how to put a PDF together. If you can e-mail me what you have, I'll try to make sense of it. It will be trial-and-error for a bit (let's hope not mostly error), but most people think I'm pretty sharp, so maybe I can teach myself how to do it. If the end result is another issue of LSE, I'm game.

I'm getting the zip with materials set up for you now.

edit: Ok - it's set up for you to grab a copy of it. It's a pretty large file so I sent it via YouSendIt instead of email cause I don't think hotmail would have allowed the attachment of that size. Let me know if you run into trouble with it.

I've been putting stuff together, an it looks pretty good so far, but I need more cullers! I especially need some news stories from Sigil & The Outlands, as well as from around the planes. I also need a few letters to the editors and some classified ads.

If anybody has some good stuff, you can send it to my e-mail: [REDACTED]

I want to apologize to you Azure for answering your pm earlier with bewilderment.

Firstly, for some reason I was no longer being updated on this thread and thought there were no new posts since I replied last.

When I got your pm I had no idea what you were talking about and thought you were some random person pming me for free commissions or some such. Took me a good while to figure it out, too. *embarassed*

Unfortunately I haven't been getting much together due to it being so darn nice out here (it's 30C and sunny!) I'll have to start working on these articles and such again soon.

Glad to see the Lady's Sharper Eye is going back in business!

No worries.

****

What I need:
-Letters to the editor
-A couple of news-type articles, set in Sigil or the outlands, the great ring, and the inner planes, respectively (I already have 1 or more for each setting)
- a few classified ads

What I'd like (i.e. if I get, that's way cool, but not really critical):
- some artwork and/or an advertisement. Something new for the Fortune's Wheel or Friendly Fiend would be good.

One more thing: I kind of need a page1 splasher. I'm putting some thought into it myself, and will be having a brainstorming session with my players this weekend. So far, the working title of LSE issue 4 is "Our Bad."

To Clueless: who do I give credit to for the artwork/ad clips in what you sent me?

Princessbunny for most of them - A'kin's ad is me. And would you like to take over the official planewalker.com addy's for the LSE so you don't have to post your private email all over the place? I can forward ours to you. Eye-wink

addy = email address - I have one set up from earlier to receive submissions for the LSE at. It keeps my 'real' address from getting too much spam as a result of asking for submissions online.

Alright, believe it or not,

Alright, believe it or not, but I have an issue, about 60% full, at the moment.  Not converted to PDF yet (not sure how/if I can), lacking a "Letters to the Editors" section, needing a few more classified ads and 3-4 more news articles.

Note, the issue is dated as post-FW, and includes some older themes.  Older in the sense of campaign seeds from Dragon Magazine, therefore a few years old at this time, but coinciding with ongoing Planewalker campaigns.  At this pont I want to put out a specific plea to individuals participating in the online campaigns here on Planewalker.com,

If someone will write a news story based on, as a background to, or otherwise in relation to their game, that would be great.  I haven't been lurking on anyone else's game, so I really don't know what they're all about. (shrugs)

One more thing, the issue will NOT reflect 4e changes to the cosmology.  Not directly.  I am thinking of writing an article that will "drop hints" about a possible upcoming planar re-alignment, and leave it at that.

If you want, I can write up

If you want, I can write up some classified ads. In my (not online) games I've had some companies and businesses that could use some advertising.
