Hi all,
I'm planning on putting together "The Book of Keeping", containing the "Well Known 'Loths" and various Yugoloth information found across every book I own.
My question is:
Is the use of information (Creature stats, pictures) from the official books legal (I'm leaning towards NO, here)? Given that I don't distribute it for money, just easy access to information about the 'Loths?
My main reason for wanting to put together such a thing is simple: Having to page through ten different books, just to find what you need, is annoying.
If I put all the Yugoloth information in one book, I'd decrease the annoyance. I can see it being worth the effort of having to retype every single word found in the old Planescape books.
Now, if the creation of this book is illegal (Ironic since the Yugoloth don't appreciate "The Book of Keeping" either), I'll have to come up with another way to make it easier to find the information.
Still, given that the Planescape books contain the good information and the new manuals the updated (very UNDERpowered) stats, it remains annoying.
Greets, Kris!
Copyright means that only Wizards of the Coast can make copying their text or pictures legal (by giving their permission). Note that, as the official site, Planewalker has permission to use some of WotC's intellectual property.
You can do whatever you want for your home game, however. There's an index of 'loths on Planewalker to help you out.
Good luck.
