Re: BoG'r OOC.

I have been wondering whether or not Ya'shenn might have actually participated in that unfortunate purge in Githmir. (Even if she didn't, she may have heard a lot about it.)

Re: BoG'r OOC.

Githmir is one of the old, big, Astral cities of the githyanki. In the 2e Guide to the Astral Plane it's the githyanki trade city. In the NPC content I wrote up for the Black Fleet, at least two of the githyanki NPCs fled from a nasty purge in Githmir.

Just put a bag in the microwave to munch on.

My delay is due to 70-80 hour weeks. Work blocked forums of all kinds around the time my schedule amped up, too.

Azure, I like the flavor note of the Silver members coordinating among the fleets. How do you want to use Xer'mun to communicate with the Silver psion,? He is neither a telepath, nor has any sending powers. Pre-established mind link?

I'll respond to the tea shop scene later. Xer'mun should be there (I think, anyway), and will follow along courteously, observing everything going on. Sense Motive on the crew, tea brewer, and the incident with the Githees confronting the loyalties of the owner.

Sense Motive
I rolled 1d20+4, the result is 3, 4 = 7.

It's not a flavor note. It's a clear political move and/or a direct response to the recent near-mutiny. (And/or she has simply irritated one or more of the commanders.) That's why Ya'shenn's pissed!

The fact that he can't even 'send' is even funnier, actually. Eye-wink

there are magic items that easily do what you need...
[i need them myself also]

i am not confronting the owner's loyalties at all... i suggest you read again, [not meant nastily..]

Ah, I figured his loyalty would be divided between Starmantle and sailing since he owns a shop. I dom't really know what is going on, so the Githees appears to be very forward by asking to meet a NPC in private about their personal interests. It would turn some heads, to be sure. Smiling

Aye, it is nice to see the paycheck, though rough to get through weekly.

It is easy to remedy Xermun's solution (a simple sending trinket or waiver), but it makes an interesting plot point if he isn't able to contact them. A)He is being shafted by Silver for something else the party doesn't know, B) His prowess as a giph may have led Lish to overestimate Xermun's capabilities, or C) A simple oversight as the Fleets scramble to ready themselves.

Yes, politics are at play. Yes, everyone is curious aboit the arrival of Git'ribani and the appearance of the Necromancer and Firebringer. However, it may just be Gith trying to cooperate. Eye-wink

sending stone's, i want several of them, but its getting them, they are in magic item compendium, and there are no trinkets that do this cheaply.

Re: BoG'r OOC.

Some ideas about which warband some of the NPCs belong/belonged to:

Kav'natch belongs to a small warband called Malachite. As mentioned previously, most of her warband that were on Abeir-Toril were killed in a major battle. (Was there a major naval battle that would work?) There are enough Malachites left on the Astral to repopulate the warband over time. However, several other warbands would be happy to adopt her.

Av'dra: I think it would be entertaining if she were a former Bloodstone, but that's Azure's call. ("You got kicked out of your warband by Lahar?? Seriously? The guy who drinks like a fish?!")

Shar'shau: Formerly of the Band of Cinnabar.

The Band of Cinnabar is small, and noted for its conservatism. (Shar'shau was raised in a very repressive, hyper-orthodox environment, though obviously, in his case, it didn't take.) As per its name, it produces more alchemists than many warbands. It also produces an above-average number of traders, travelers, and scholars, as well as knights. The Band of Cinnabar has its own out-of-the-way holding on the Astral, a place called the Red Rock. While the Red Rock is considered sophisticated enough in a cultural sense, it is way out in the sticks in a 'geographic' sense. The Red Rock actually exists within a planar anomaly that makes travel to and from the place take longer than it should. (Some say this warband produces more traders and travelers than usual because the Red Rock is so isolated and boring that many are happy to get away from the place.)

Githyanki probably know about the toxicity of mercury; the cinnabar decorations of members of this warband probably have some kind of protective coating.

Re: BoG'r OOC.

Zimrazim, I like it. I think I may have already called Shar'shu "The Gold". So ...

"The Band of Cinnabar is a Myth. Or they turned to piratical heresy. Or they were purged by Vlaakith long ago. When have you ever seen a toxic gem used in warband insignia. Never! Step to, githwarrior, or Vlaakith take your idol fantasy."

The Band of Cinnabar was founded under Vlaakith XCII (42) as an order of spies and infiltrators, used both against the githzerai and the other warbands. Cinnabar as a decoration must be sealed away due to its toxicity. So too, Cinnabar hid themselves away in other warbands, secretly reporting to The Queen directly, bypassing even her Knights. Each one kept, as a reminder, a single glass or clear crystal locket containing the red stone that they would have to show to another Cinnabar to prove themselves. Their hidden redoubt of Red Rock was remote and unknown to others at the time.

Their power grew until Vlaakith CXIII (113). Whispers of a "secret warband" had grown, and their secret power and influence was greater than any could dream. The 111th Vlaakith's assassination was rumored to have been engineered by the "poison gem", though Vlaakith CXII continued to blame illithid agents. However, her reign was short, and her successor ordered a purge of the Cinnabar. She was aided by her knights and several Orders of projective telepaths and clairvoyants. It was one of the most brutal purges in githyanki history, and resulted in the near total annihilation of the old Band of Cinnabar. Their holding survived, however, and a new Band of Cinnabar, significantly weakened and controlled, held on to to some of the old traditions. Some survivors of the purge were permanently exiled to Red Rock. The warband's focus turned more to alchemy and spell research.

Rumors of successive purges by later Vlaakiths were used to keep Red Rock isolated and secret, and no one knows if the Band of Cinnabar still exists today. Innovations in alchemy, spells, and magical items are credited to individuals in various warbands, and nobody asks the wizard if he carries a locket with cinnabar.
______

Shar'shao "The Gold" is a githyanki alchemist and wizard. He and Mlar-Kav'natch are responsible for the guns aboard the Pride and the Vengeance. He works closely with the graith gun crews, and is also the Fleet Treasurer. He is more interested in material gain than is proper even for one of the Band of Gold, but is also a cautious individual. Secretly, he carries a gold and crystal locket containing a gem-quality cinnabar as a symbol of his alchemical training at Red Rock.

Re: BoG'r OOC.

My (original?) concept of Shar'shau is that he's basically a self-interested scumbag... the major theft from his warband, the smuggling, etc., are actually for his own personal gain rather than that of his real warband or for political reasons; he's actually a renegade. I suppose other true motivations might work if they pass the Rule of Cool, though.

I'm also going to do a full write-up of Red Rock sometime; I have a mental image of a hidden locale where all sorts of dangerous alchemical, magical, and other experimentation takes place. (It's possible that the Void Bombs were created and/or tested here.)
