It counts every edit as a new post, which is unfortunate for anyone who gets an email notification for new posts.

Sorry about that. I post whenever I have time. I'm not done yet, even, so you probably will get notices. I'll try to make edits worthwhile, and add new posts as well.

The separation was my fault. My idea was to have the PCs able to have a say in the council, but Azthri wouldn't have made the cut as a 'commander' (sorry).

Making a few notes about the capabilities of the fleet.

For the other fleets, an Astral Brig does about 12 knots and the big Planar Raiders make 6 or 7 knots. The slowest of the sailing ships does about 6 knots, the fastest is the Swallow which has a base speed of 12 knots. Note that the sailing ships are more prone to favorable and unfavorable winds than the githyanki flying ships.

The Black Fleet's only githyanki flying ship, an astral skiff, can hold a pilot and three other warriors. It's interior space is about 15 ft (5m) by 5 ft (1.5m). It can hold 500 lbs (200 kg) before slowing, and twice that before exceeding it's weight limit.

The stats on the sailing ships in the Black Fleet are as such;

- The Frigate Pride and the sloops all have a base speed of about 9 knots. This is fairly fast for a sailing ship.
- The flying Astral Skiff has a base speed of about 16 knots

Frigate Pride - length 150' - width 35' - 625 tons - 3 masts - 3 full decks, 2 partial decks - Crew ~ 100, 250 max extra

Sloops - length ~ 100' - width 20-25' - ~200 tons - 2 masts - 1 full deck, 1 partial - Crew ~35, ~75 max extra

Sloop names and some notes

Sharks' Teeth - The graith captain is a great four-armed Sahuagin. He is an exile from his people, and has some magic that protects him from drying out. He and his crew have the reputation for being the most vicious pirates in the fleet.

Dirk - Several half-orcs and goblinoid sailors man this ship. The graith captain's relatives were victims of the illithid, and is fiercely loyal to the githyanki cause.

Raven's Claw - Second-fastest ship in the Black Fleet: base speed 10 knots. The githyanki aboard this sloop consist of six swordwraiths and a githyanki teleportation specialist..

Vengeance - The most heavily armed of the sloops.

Wings of the Sea - Fastest of the sloops. Base speed 10 knots, and gets an extra 10% beyond other ships in favorable winds. Magic sails allow movement in any wind condition

Oops.

So I'm reading the latest Blades of Git'riban posts and the website informs me "Thank you for reporting this piece of spam." Or words to that effect. Wha?!

I must have clicked on the Report link by mistake. So, admins, that is definitely NOT spam. Sheesh.

BTW, I haven't figured out what "best armed of the sloops" actually means. I am still on the fence as to whether the ships use cannon. One one hand, I wanted the pirate adventure, but on the other I am reluctant to make gunpowder and cannons standard technology The githyanki ships use ballistas and a few specialty-made and one-of-a-kind artillery weapons.

Hmmz, imo gunpowder if one with pirates.. I dislike the idea of not finding gunpowder fit in with "a fantasy genre", utter rubbish imo, fantasy is a very broad spectrum, and people in general needlessly marginalise this genre to much Sticking out tongue

Forgotten realms setting has black-powder aka gun-powder in its setting, and is not Roman or medieval time set.. so this doesn't hold imo, not in the slightest..

(Edit: Yes, this is true for themost part, I know there is Greek based and Egyptian based parts, but Cormantyr and other large parts of the setting are far more advanced technology/ setting wise)

Ya'shenn has advice/suggestions she is willing to provide, but no one has asked her. (I'm also a bit curious to see what Ii and Kirath come up with.) Not a lot for her to do at the moment.

Well, I think it's more a house rule than a real rule, but I figure it's the trade-off for being immune to all mind-affecting powers. An undead's mind has died, so I believe they should generally loose any psi powers. There are, of course, exceptions, but they are rare. Mist-of-the-Mind is one; a psion who is essentially a disembodied psyche. I have a few others, too, but they are all unique individuals.

Azure wrote:

Well, gunpowder and cannon are canon Smiling in FR as "Wonders pf Gond", pretty much magic items or technology sufficiently advanced to be magic-like. FR is notorious for having magically advanced civilizations, even ones that use magic for mundane tasks. There are more technologically advanced societies that export limited quantities too (Lantan).

So ...

The larger vessels mostly have cannons, but they are not as advanced as 17th century naval tech. Powder is an alchemical item that is very expensive and difficult to make. There are single-shot pistols and blunderbusses, but no rifles or even muskets. Cannon are on most capital ships (including the Pride ), but due to cost, sloops do not (usually). The canon are generally only used in direst of circumstances due to shortages of ammo and powder. Balistas and heavy crossbows are common.

This is basically splitting the difference, saying "some cannon" without blowing it up (so to speak).

****

The Pride has 6 heavy guns, 3 to a side. Each has a crew of 8 to fire. Reloading takes 4 rounds (+1 round for less than 8 crew to a minimum of 4 which would then be 8 rounds to reload). The crews of these are trained in their use, and a normal crewman cannot replace a lost gun crew.

There are thirty Triple Heavy Crossbows set up along the top deck with stores of bolts. A crew of two can fire every other round, while a lone archer takes 2 rounds to reload. The firer may attack up to three times with full attack. If a firer has fewer than 3 attacks per round, they may still fire more than one bolt, in which case all bolts either hit or miss with that attack. A firer may also take shots one at a time. There are 3 bolts in a loaded Triple Heavy Crossbow (of course). They are an anchored weapon, and would impose a -4 penalty to fire due to the weight of the weapon if removed from the moorings.

Aboard the Sloops

There are typically a dozen Triple Heavy Crossbows set up on a sloop. The Vengeance also has eight light cannon. They have half the crew requirements of the heavy guns above.

Arquebuses are acceptable, so it's ok, but a rifle would be a unique item with limited ammo. The Mlar may be able to replace some, given time.

Huzzah, new posts.

By "triple heavy crossbows," do you mean "triple ballistae," by any chance? (Zim likes the idea of a triple-crossbow ballista. That sounds nasty.)

What is a rifle doing in a D&D game?

I created Mil mostly because our party includes Azthri, a githyanki who hasn't had a 'proper' upbringing, and several githyanki who were brought up in Git'riban.

The varsh caste is responsible for seeing that githyanki children have a proper upbringing. Several party members were brought up by githyanki renegades or even by barbarians (horrors!). This came up before with regard to Pale's pilot, who was a member of the same caste.
