Re: BoG'r OOC.

Ya'shenn:

Wears a third eye gem on her forehead (specifically, a psionatrix)

You've met Mercy, and she carries a few other daggers (soon to be a lot more daggers), a crossbow and bolts, and a barbarian-forged longsword (of undead slaying). While there is a quarterstaff on her character sheet, I've hardly ever (or never) used it in game, so no need to include it in a sketch... By githyanki standards, she is lightly armed. She has two magical rings, and probably some nonmagical jewelry as well.

Her hair and eyes are black.

She has two dorjes -- the psionic version of wands. They look like crystal rods, I think. One of them has engraved writing in Qualith, as its original owner was a mind flayer.

While I don't emphasize it in posts, I would imagine that with a Charisma score of 18, she's probably comely. (Well, comely to githyanki eyes.)

Regarding Sense Motive -- I don't think Ya'shenn should find out about Derog just yet. It's just that she would be at least a little bit cautious.

Hi CG, here's Ar'Dru's sheet - http://www.thetangledweb.net/forums/profiler/view_char.php?cid=5011

I think there's a description of him on the first page as Azure said.

Azthri has never met a duthka'gith before, though her reaction will be one of fascination and acceptance. She was a doctor in Sigil, after all. XD

Cool, Ar'Dru'll be a bit condesending but his is to pretty much everyone and I don't think Azthri will mind too much, Derog however...

Azure, I never levelled up after joining with pale, am I ok to give Ar'dru a level of Sanctified Mind (LoM) It requires a non-evil alignment but the abilities really seem to suit him. Otherwise I'll wait until I get the track feat and go Illithid Hunter.

Clarification:

Are Ar'dru and Kirath coming as one group, and Gy-Nath/Du'minh/K'tch as a second group, or are all five arriving at the same time?

Speaking of Derog, there are many ways one can earn themselves a place on his 'People I Will Assassinate At The First Opportunity' list:

I. Acting in any manner that could be interpreted as rudeness towards Azthri. (Ar'dru is exempt from this one due to Derog being smart enough to not mess with a duthka'gith!)

II. Flirting with or showing romantic interest in Azthri puts the offender at rank just below ghaiks in terms of visceral loathing and kill-priority. No one has ever gotten past the flirt stage with her. Ever.

III. Mentioning "that theory" about Zerthimon. The offender in question has effectively given themselves a free execution to be enjoyed at an appropriate time.

IV. Questioning his honour. Azthri already put herself on Derog's nastier side for it, though in her case he's just slinging around threats. Lucky lass. >_>

Those are but four of the things that will set him off. Note, however, that Derog will not blow his cover if he is confronted with the above peeves. That's saved for when Azthri is asleep and 'dormant'.......however as a ghost he could technically manifest a form outside of his host, but since I am a twisted player I say he should have to take a nasty bite out of Azthri's Constitution to do it.

In regards to my next post I'm holding off for now to give everyone else the chance to jump in/move the plot along unless otherwise stated.

Laughing out loud Awww. Maybe I'll throw in a Derog moment.

Hrm, I knew there was an alignment restriction on the Hellfire Warlock PrC but I couldn't remember what it was until I busted out my books. Derog has to have either a chaotic or evil alignment to qualify so either in life he was chaotic neutral or his shift to neutral evil happened before he died.

Worst case scenario I'll just change his classes to something equally nasty.

As a comment... Azthri didn't do anything incorrect when she bowed and showed the sword, I don't think.

She didn't know what Ya'shenn's rank is or who's in charge. I think that kneeling and displaying the sword when making dramatic statements works culturally -- I think Ar'dru did something similar once.

(Personally I think that githyanki would kneel relatively rarely -- it might be associated with thralldom or decerebration -- but it probably works in some situations.)

Also, Ya'shenn is much more cynical and less enthusiastic than Azthri Eye-wink

I am in agreement with your views on kneeling. I could see it as something deemed almost akin to being a sycophant if done in the wrong context. O-o

Nothing more than a nod is called for. Carrying a sword by the blade is also a way to tell non-githyanki "I won't kill you ... now". To another githyanki it is the equivilant of a polite smile.

Ya'shenn isn't interested in K'tch in that way -- she's very angry that he went to have a little chat with Mist-of-the-Mind. I can see how Azthri might think something different, though. Smiling

BTW, the misunderstanding is great IC stuff. See, us HUMANS are used to looking for a mate of some kind, it's one of the driving forces of society. Githyanki, however, are very much more communal in their breeding, so sho-dai are much more rare in their culture than married people in ours. Azthri, growing up in a mixed humanoid culture, jumps to certain wrong conclusions about githyanki culture, like equating so-dai with monogamous relationships in general. Which, in many important ways, it is not. I love it!

She'd be certainly uncomfortable if not outright horrified at the concept of communal breeding. Excellent! I have a copy of Senryaku, the 36 strategems, which is very similar Art of War. Gy often quotes from it, as have other NPC githyanki. For everyone's edification;

1. Cross the sea under concealment of broad daylight
2. Attack one foe to win another
3. Kill with a borrowed sword
4. Face the weary from a condition of ease.
5. Rob a burning house
6. Feint east, strike west
7. Make something from nothing
8. Take one path while pretending to take another
9. Watch a fire from across the river
10. Hide a sword in a smile
11. One tree falls in place of another
12. Steal a sheep in passing
13, Beat the grass to scare the snakes
14,.Borrow a corpse to bring back a spirit
15. Lure the tiger from the mountains
16, Catch your quarry by allowing him to escape
17, Trade a brick for a jade
18. Catch the chief to nab the bandids
19. Take the firewood from under the pot
20. Fish in troubled waters
21. The gold cicada molts its shell
22. Lock the gates to catch the bandits
23. Make allies far away, attack nearby
24. Borrow the right of way to attack a neighbor
25. Replace beams with pillars
26. Point at one to scold another
27. Act foolish, be smart
28. Let them climb to the roof, then take away the ladder
29. Make flowers bloom on the tree
30. The guest becomes the host
31. Scheme with beauties
32. Scheme with an empty castle
33. Scheme with double agents
34. Scheme with self-inflicted wounds
35. Chain the enemy's ships together
36. Run away

I suspect I set myself up to play the gith races the first time I read "The Art of War" at age twelve!

I love the 36 strategems! As a military history buff myself I admit I nearly passed out in glee when you posted these! It's nearly impossible for me to find anyone who appreciates them.

7. Make something from nothing
(read: Make a githwarrior from a Hiver!!!!)

Derog frequently practiced number 33, number 10 and number 8 during his life.

To Azure: What format do you want my sheet in?

**planeshifts to the forum!**

Greetings again, everyone! I managed to get a tiny bit of free time so I wanted to take the time to ask a bit of advice from my fellow players: I had to completely change Derog's classes since he had achieved the rank of sarth while undercover. I think it would be best to scrap the original idea of a rogue/warlock (Hellfire Warlock PrC) and just go with either a fighter/rogue or a fighter/warlock for the sake of believability. Or I could do a rogue /fighter /warlock (OWW). As a spirit, if I recall correctly, he cannot channel any of his old skills through Azthri due to her lack of those skills/knowlege, so no need to worry about the poor graith-raised Hiver gaining outrageous attacks. Sticking out tongue

Help? Sad

Re: BoG'r OOC.

/forum/githyanki-ranks-0

At least in the context of BoGr, I'm fairly sure that a commander can be of (almost) any class and that he/she can command (almost) any class. (Gy-Nath is the psionic equivalent of a gish; Kirath, a warlock, was a commander; Master Pale, well...)

In the source material, it's more strict.

A mage who commands other mages is called a kajorr (master), so master warlock, master mage, etc.

A very powerful mage commander is a tlai'kajorr (grand master). If Pale didn't already have the title of Queen's Necromancer, he'd probably be one of these.

In terms of social status, a rank-and-file mage is already on the level of a sarth, but he's not actually commanding troops. It's a bit like knights, but without the "being a feared servant of the Revered Queen" part.

Azure could answer this question better than I can, though.

Re: BoG'r OOC.

You pretty much got it. I figured that ALL 1st to 3rd level githyanki were considered "githwarriors" until they reached a skill level were they could be called something else. 'Sarth' and 'Kith'rak' are ranks, and though usually warrior-class, a mage or psion could become one with the right drive and ability. Of course, githyanki society has other positions for specialists who can sling spells or psi-powers, which are equally as prestigious.

And I have been using the term 'Master' to denote mages or psions who are highly proficient. Hence 'Master Pale', though the title is a demotion for someone who was once the 'Queen's Necromancer'. I haven't used the second term though ... perhaps I should ...

As for what all this means for Derog; he can be whatever classes you want him to be, but a full mage has better ways to show his skills than ordering about companies of rank-and-file troopers.

Zimrazim wrote:

They are mostly staying in their ships, since even though the castle is mostly secure, the locals likely know of several still-gaping holes in the walls or other ways to slip in to cut githyanki throats. Neither does Master Pale fully trust the local githyanki not to try something similar (paranoia will destroy ya!)

Have a lot of Pale's forces actually gone into the castle, or are they in the skiffs/ships above it?

They are mostly staying in their ships, since even though the castle is mostly secure, the locals likely know of several still-gaping holes in the walls or other ways to slip in to cut githyanki throats. Neither does Master Pale fully trust the local githyanki not to try something similar (paranoia will destroy ya!)

That, and I added Sarth'Gar.. (a rank above 'Sarth', but below 'Kith'rak'),
maybe this is a rank for unit leaders, for units of a size below a dozen, but only in the forces of the knights? (thinking out loud)

DM reserves the right to all colors, as I have many NPCs, and can't have them all be the same color. Actually, I think it was a grave mistake to use Gy-Nath's color for Sark'ja too, but oh well.

Re: BoG'r OOC.

For Azure:

I don't know that I want to push the DM very hard on this point (K'tch, that is), especially after pushing so hard regarding Pale. I don't really want to mess with the storyline you have in mind, it's just that Ya'shenn would be very hesitant to have the bard around, on a "fool me once/fool me twice" basis.

Also, I figure that the DM also wants to include other PCs more in the in-game conversation, even if Ya'shenn might believe something else. Eye-wink

Fair enough. EvilDM isn't just evil to the players, oh no. He enjoys putting NPCs in awful situations, too. Remember Mr Love? I liked him! I actually liked Mudshow and Bliss, too. Sticking out tongue
