The term "thou protest too much" comes to mind. Pale didn't exactly make that accusation. He actually prefaced what he said with "I hate heretics." The 'message' was cryptic enough to (hopefully) bypass BOTH their 'riders'.

Edit if you want. I think I'll leave the cliffhanger a little anyway, and turn the next post towards Kirath and Ar'dru. Not tonight though, I think.

Re: BoG'r OOC.

I figured it would come eventually in the play of the game. There is no way my character knows anything of Nergal although it will be interesting to see Kirath's reaction if he ever finds out about it. As he is a "God-slave" to Tiamat . The veneration if that is what Ii's relationship to the dead power will be an interesting counterpoint to his relationship with Tiamat.

She doesn't venerate him, Nergal, as a priest normally does to a god... and yes, very interesting.. lol.

Tiamat and Nergal are from the same Pantheon, but real life info conflicts with planescape:
From wiki:
Nergal actually seems to be in part a solar deity, sometimes identified with Shamash, but only a representative of a certain phase of the sun. Portrayed in hymns and myths as a god of war and pestilence, Nergal seems to represent the sun of noontime and of the summer solstice that brings destruction, high summer being the dead season in the Mesopotamian annual cycle.

Nergal was also the deity who presides over the netherworld, and who stands at the head of the special pantheon assigned to the government of the dead.
Standard iconography pictured Nergal as a lion, and boundary-stone monuments symbolise him with a mace surmounted by the head of a lion.
In the late Babylonian astral-theological system Nergal is related to the planet Mars. As a fiery god of destruction and war. In Babylonian ecclesiastical art the great lion-headed colossi serving as guardians to the temples and palaces seem to symbolise Nergal.

and:
Being a deity of the desert, and a god of fire, the negative aspects of the sun, and the underworld, and also being a god of one of the religions who rivalled Christianity and Judaism, Nergal was sometimes called a demon and even being identified with Satan. According to Collin de Plancy and Johann Weyer, Nergal was said to be the chief of Hell's "secret police", and said to be "an honorary spy in the service of Beelzebub".

From planescape:
Nergal is the god of plague, the underworld, and the dead in the Babylonian pantheon. His realm in Oinos, Nergaltos, is dark and gray, made of black basalt and swirling mists. It is laid out in rings, with seven concentric domes filled with the shades of the dead. At the god's side is his wife Ereshkigal. Nergal always manifests as a dark-skinned human carrying a night-black shield made from the pure substance of Death.

Nergal bound Enki of the Sumerian pantheon while Anshar killed him with his sword. Enki's father Enlil has sworn vengeance on both Nergal and Anshar.

Re: BoG'r OOC.

Many of Pale's ships are currently at half speed.

Pale mostly doesn't use telepathy to coordinate ship movements, since his pilots are undead.

Pale probably has at least a few levels in a melee class. (Would make sense for a Pale Master, actually.)

If Starmantle is the destination, I'm wondering if Pale's objective invovles fighting other githyanki as well as barbarians. (It might involve conscripting those other githyanki instead?)

Both Kirath and Ya'shenn are highly motivated to foil Pale's plans, but I'm not sure whether the same is true of other party members (especially Ar'dru and Ii).

Kirath suspects that Pale plans on consolidating the power of the githyanki under himself (or is it really Mist-of-the Mind running the show).Kirath has no desire seeing his people serving a barmy wanna-be lich or a ghost psion for that matter.

His biggest amount of troops atm is Swordwraiths, they are fully intelligent and can be more adaptive then you think...imo.

I am not against foiling Pale's plans, but I do make use of the situation as is now, not that i repsect him, but simply he acknowledges my rank and I am receiving honours as befits..
So why I cannot play along with that?

Ii wants power, and information, a lot of information, where she gets that, and if it needs to be gotten by foiling another big boy, I don't care Smiling

I am interested in conscripting some Gith and Barbarians of my own, so i am willing to play along if it is indeed the reason to go to this port..

brb after 8 hrs, i'll be back from work, see what you think and reply then again.. Smiling

Hah! Now you're talking about foiling another githyanki's plans! Not because you have any real self interest in doing so, but just because you distrust and dislike him! Love it! -EvilDM

Also, note that while most of Pale's ships are moving at half speed, this is not the case all around, and the skiffs especially remain fully maneuverable. Of Kirath's original strikeforce, the three brigs are now so laden with horses and other animals that they too are moving at half speed. The ships that Pale had Kirath's warriors and the PCs transfer to are still at full speed, though (both are being piloted by swordwraiths, however)

Incentive: Mist of the Mind has already sensed Ya'shenn's mindlink with Ii, and not confronted her about it. Kirath doing something similar with Gib might not go as well, so using Ya'shenn is a good idea.

Not necessarily. Githyanki get a feat with race, which is usually spend obtaining martial weapons (blades). Thus low-level githyanki are considered 'githwarriors', and used as such, whatever their class, until they reach a higher level of skill in their profession.

I thought this is what we did for Ya'shenn. It replaces the weapon focus:greatsword feat, if the chosen class cannot use martial weapons.

That makes sense. I was thinking that he might have taken a few levels in a melee class for higher BAB. (Don't Pale Masters in particular have a few special abilities where a higher BAB would help?)

Yea, I guess so, its a nice way to get some info, but very vague...

and it renders me:exhausted: Tired to the point of significant impairment. An exhausted character moves at half speed and takes a –6 penalty to Strength and Dexterity. After 1 hour of complete rest, an exhausted character becomes fatigued. A fatigued character becomes exhausted by doing something else that would normally cause fatigue.

Funny thing is:
Lost Empires of Faeruhn, page 33, "Ray of Resurgence" spell:
Cleric 1, basically lets the target go from Exhausted to Fatigued, or removes the latter completely.. Eye-wink

Re: BoG'r OOC.

I do hope that the party isn't looking to Ya'shenn for tactical planning right now. I'd like to think that she's fairly good at negotiation and extracting information, but...

That said, I want to reiterate the following question:

Zimrazim wrote:
Speaking of which, would Ya'shenn be able to tell if MotM has planted suggestions in someone else? I can already think of two occasions where Mist-of-the-Mind might have done so.

Ya'shenn certainly wouldn't put it past Mist-of-the-Mind to turn Ii's wyvern into eyes and ears for the undead psion. (She might even have done something similar with the Jade psi-warrior, though as the latter is a githyanki it's necessarily more delicate...) I ask because it could certainly matter if the PCs decide to turn on Pale at this time.

If the PCs turn on Pale...sending out someone to 'scout' Starmantle beforehand (and feel out/warn the githyanki pirates/graith) might be an option. In terms of overt mutiny, N'ach't/other undead pilots would need to be dealt with, and Kirath and his troops aren't in ideal positions at the moment.

All of which assumes the PCs/party NPCs don't end up fighting each other, since at least a few of them lean toward the Ascendancy.

With regard to Ya'shenn's own motivations, not only does she loathe the Ascendancy in general (and Pale in particular), she would definitely balk at fighting other githyanki for Pale's cause. (Barbarians are another story.)

Re: BoG'r OOC.

Of course, realize that Pale is bound by githyanki honor as much as any PC. He may hate heretics (or is it MotM who does ... ) but he still won't kill them or even send them into unnecessary danger. He gave his 'guests', the off-worlders, his own personal ship and pilot. EvilDM likes that you mistrust Pale and Mist, but both are still githyanki.

Pale IS very callous with the graith, though. His own allies among the graith are mostly undead. He sees nothing wrong with imposing undeath on graith (it often makes them more agreeable).

Re: BoG'r OOC.

In Ya'shenn's own case, it's not that she believes that Pale will necessarily send the party on suicide missions, and she definitely doesn't feel much concern for the graith.

She definitely takes issue with the prospect of slaughtering other githyanki for the Ascendancy's cause. (During Kirath's meeting, I was hoping that Ya'shenn could ask Pale/Mist more about the githyanki captains, possibly even asking in effect "So are you going to slay them if they refuse?" I was distracted by turkey yesterday...)

Mist(/Pale) seems obviously to be using a divide and conquer strategy, even using impressed troops to subdue other githyanki. Ya'shenn will be very uncomfortable with this situation. (I have doubts about how long she's willing to allow herself to be used this way to serve the ends of the Ascendancy, and even the threat of death/being turned into a zombie only goes so far with githyanki fanatics.)

Well Zimmy Ya'Shenn might still be able to contact Mist-of-the Mind since Kirath is stuck near Pale at the moment.

Kirath would love to turn on the necromancer but realizes his limitations and will try to rebel in small ways against the necromancer if he doesn't get much support.

Speaking of which maybe Ii and Ya'Shennn could reach out to the other npc's and find out their stance on our current situtation.

Re: BoG'r OOC.

If you guys do want to warn everybody in Starmantle, Ii is probably the one to do it. A skiff would reach Starmantle faster, but one dashing ahead would tip off Pale. Ii is being treated like a true knight; she can go anywhere and talk to anyone, she can scout ahead if she chooses, or support any unit that needs help. Not that it wouldn't arouse suspicion, but nobody would stop her.

If Ii did go ahead, she'd be able to get to Starmantle about two hours before Pale's fleet. Pale probably wouldn't be told she was missing until it was too late to go after her. As he's treating Ii like a knight of Vlaakith, he probably wouldn't sent anyone TO stop her.

So, she'd be able to warn the ship captains, but they wouldn't make it very far if they ran. She can warn the populace, but they'd have just enough time to prepare a defense (or a surrender).

What you decide to do as a party greatly influences what will happen when you get to Starmantle. As DM, I love this.
