Githyanki are an odd sort of mix of a profoundly repressive, xenophobic, militant theocracy and a utopian society.  :)  (Mostly, extremely nasty in the way they treat nongithyanki, and utopian in the way they treat each other.)  It's those contradictions that make them fun to play.

What do the PCs know about aboleths, I wonder?  Specifically, their abilities with regard to illusions...?

The aboleths' enslave

The aboleths' enslave ability may be a psionic ability (is it?), and the slime ability is treated as a disease. Negate Psionics might work on the former, and Empathic Transfer/Body Adjustment might work on the latter.

That wasn't even a full attack...   :O  Surprised  So, in theory, with double crits, Du'minh could do more than 120 damage in a round with a full attack action, right?  Cool

Yeah.  At the time Ya'shenn used the dorje, though, she'd only seen one of the three aboleths.

Theoretically possible but ridiculously improbable he could do more than 150. Two max power attacks at 1d10+28 each, x2 on a crit.

Anyway, I'm sure hubris will kneecap him right back when his BoG luck turns. Its been plenty proven that its all or nothing in this game. Tongue out

Are an aboleth's illusion

Are an aboleth's illusion abilities psionic (or magical, or something else)?

If they are psionic, would negate psionics work on them?

If they are psionic, and negate psionics would work on them, does Ya'shenn know that about aboleths?

I play aboleth as psionic.

So, yes, negate psi will work.

Ya'shenn, having studied illithid  but not aboleth per se, knows they are psionic aberations, but does not know their specific powers.

The mazed adventures

The mazed adventures thread.

Djhek'nlarr might actually be a quite interesting NPC in the context of the BoGr campaign.

'Typical' githyanki or renegade githyanki?

Which warband is she a part of, if any?

Faction leanings?

What's she been doing lately?

Not to mention, an NPC who can navigate the Mazes is intinsically rather awesome.

Ar'dru's dragon eyes can spot it, but no matter how he tries to direct her aim, Ya'shenn simply can't see it {spot 25 for Ar', 14 foy Ya'}

Du'minh can kind of tell where it is, but cannot see it.  Spoting Aboleth #3 is a DC 20 check, because it is being careful, unlike its rash siblings.

Aboleth #2 has been driven off, but it has a very unfortunate Daraz in tow.  For added effect, Ar'dru sees it's wake as it retreats full speed into the darkness, and even hears a big splash as it opens a fully submerged portal, followed by a surge of saltwater.

A little DM

A little DM Comentary;

Awesome RP, despite the slow posting rate of late.  I'm enjoying writing the story emensely {fluff} and 2 PCs just killed an aboleth in one round {CRUNCH!}.  Hoping to throw in a twist with the next scene, in addition to the one I'm pulling at the end of this one.

Is Mudshow's head still alive?  Was that what he was tring to do, consuming those potions?  Or is the aboleth trying to retrieve the head telekineticly?

That was an utterly awesome scene you depicted it as! Too bad the giths' cloaks were soaked when they jumped out, because fluttering capes make for a great visual when you drop from the sky (just ask Marvel Comics). Laughing

Azure, I'm wondering if

Azure, I'm wondering if you'd be interested in writing an article (maybe for the Rrakkma project?) about the khiin-chast, and the githzerai version as well.  Is it normally something done by the highest-ranking githyanki present, or by the yanki/zerai's buddies, or just anyone who's around?  (Not to mention, if you get abducted by an aboleth, do your buddies perform the khiin-chast ritual for you?)

The freakshow that follows will forever burn in his memories.

The illithid head is a ghostly pale color, one tentacle a half-stump, two others ragged from broken glass. The flesh, though pale, is not dead, and deep purple ooze leaks from one side. The other is home to two baleful eyes. They are a violent purple, straked with crimson veins. The black, dilated pupils are of an alien shape. Du'minh truies to throttle and squeeze the thing, but it doesn't seem to help. In fact, he finds it more slippery than anticipated, and it slides out when he exerts pressure. It almost gets away, but he manages to hang up a tenticle on the link-spikes. It is then that he realizes that part of the thing's skin is changing color. A line across the *ahem* face is translucent in a wide swath that is expanding at the edges.

That is pretty freaky. I was half-way thinking "vargouille experiment?" but no wings or teeth yet.

At any rate, I imagine Du'minh would be shouting out his horror right in its face at the top of his lungs, before playing American football with it. Laughing

If I were a mind flayer with a large collection of potions and a rrakkma band came to visit, a Potion of Gaseous Form might be nice to have.  Not sure what would make Mudshow's eyes change color, though.

An awesome read, Azure. I left you comments at the article. Smiling

Bladedancer, this is what the party consists of (based on my impressions):

Gy-Nath. Kith'rak (captain) of the Band of Bronze. Suspected affiliation with the Unifists power bloc. Fighter/psion with focus on telekinesis and wielding a variety of blades, also a tad higher level than the rest of us.

Du'minh. Rish-i-Chal (mage slayer) of the Band of Steel. Member of the Silver Eyes power bloc through his warband, though not settled into power bloc politics yet. Fighter/occult slayer, specialized in fighting with flail.

Ar'dru. Duth'kagith (special half red dragon - half githyanki caste) and member of the Cult of Tiamat power bloc. Psychic warrior wielding a silver sword.

Ya'shenn. Psion of a group known as the Double-Edged Mind. Member of the Reconcilliation power bloc (unknown to all but Daraz, I think). Tripple-eyed telepath and primary psionicist of the group.

Ii'Jyka'Vaar. Lieutenant and dragonrider. Blackguard wielding a vicious special blade. Dunno much about her, actually, other than I killed her former captain and lover. Tongue out

Quite correct.

No on the search.  The crystal ball is gone.  That's an item too powerful/useful/unballancing for the party as of now.
