Grazz the Accursed is one of my favorite NPCs so far, actually. He's one of those guys that you love to hate.

I usually like to play fairly nonviolent characters and that tends to clash with most DMs' styles. Trias has done an awesome job bearing with my eccentricities in the Incubus campaign, though because it's a solo game there isn't the problem of my play style clashing with other players'. Are your game usually pretty combat heavy?

BoGr? Oh, yes. I really should have given my psion more pure HP-damaging capability, not to mention powers that aren't so thoroughly messed up by power resistance. (That said, suggestion and dominate are way more fun than swinging a sword at some NPC.)

That said, it's not really a hack and slash game. Interactions with NPCs are important (not least because of the clues they provide about the storyline).

Heh, the pluralization implied with the first word was correct. The lack of an 's' after "game" was a typo.

Still I agree that enchantment magic is definitely more fun than swinging a sword, or even less common weapons.

I know you were directing that question at Azure, but I answered it anyway.

No no, I wasn't asking about BoG'r. I already know what a slaughterfest that can be. I was talking about other games Azure might run.

What about you Zim? Do you run any games?

Heh. I agree. Especially when your players keep vanishing. I'd love to help the games here with that problem but the ones I've seen at least seem way too evil for my tastes.

You know, I don't think I'd be averse to another good-aligned campaign. I'd probably want it to involve doing good deeds, though -- like healing the sick or helping the needy with no particular expectation of reward. Too often the difference between a good campaign and an evil one is the species of the NPCs that the party is beating up. Good parties beat up orcs; evil parties beat up greenskirts. Eye-wink

Seconded. I definitely love the way he managed to weasel himself out of a situation that looked pretty impossible.

Obsidian Orb and K'tch are also particularly great characters.

I was pretty surprised to see someone like Grazz seem absolutely thrilled by the appearance of a telepath. Haha.

K'tch is a very well-designed NPC, but he reminds me too much somehow of drama majors. Ew. Eye-wink

Obsidian Orb is great, but I think that she and Ya'shenn are destined to rub each other the wrong way. Ya'shenn doesn't like the chieftain's power-grabby-ness. (She really didn't want the uber-eyeballs going to the Athasian, and not just because Orb might have become Sight's new host.)

Well that's exactly the kind of campaign I enjoy.

Have you read any of Incubus? I think my character actually kind of sucks because he really doesn't have any good reason to be doing all these good deeds. He does em anyway, and hasn't even personally killed anyone, though that hasn't stopped bad guys from dying horribly indirectly due to his actions. Whoops, those bad guys got in the way of the monster that was chasing me... my bad. Hm... He also would have died a long long time ago if Trias was following the rules to the letter, but I'm not complaining.

It would definitely be thematically appropriate, though - it’s not like she's unaccustomed with magical eye-stones. Laughing out loud

Perhaps on some subconscious level the pet peeve between OO & Ya'shenn is related to sight in general - it’s the one-eyed woman vs. the three-eyed woman, after all.

Actually, no. BoG'r is an exception. Here at home we do, like, one or two dice rolls per session, if that.

As far as my own NPCs go, well, I pretty much love 'em all, so it'd be hard for me to pick a favorite. That said, my all-time favorite NPC from my home game was "Big Hat", also called "The Master of Disguise" by my players. He was a barmy beholder from Bedlam who "dresses" like a humanoid. He'd telekineticly carry around a set of clothes to make it look (heh, sort of) like he had a body. He sometimes "impersonated" other characters, believing nobody could tell the differance as long as the clothes sort of matched.

That does sound absolutely hilarious. Laughing out loud Wish I could find a good tabletop game to get into. The last one I was in was too hack and slashy for my tastes. That seems to be the only kind around here. Oh well, I'd just spend most of my time stuttering and getting upset when things didn't go my way because I took to long considering a course of action... Hm...

Couple of questions:

Is there stuff in the room that Ya'shenn and Daraz are in that can be used to create physical obstacles to the portals (i.e., tripwires, traps)? Yes, I know illithids have the levitate ability, but I'm not so certain that a panicked illithid fleeing along a "safe" escape route would necessarily be using it.

Traps are more Daraz's specialty, though.

I've been wondering this for a while: Negate Psionics on thralls. It might not break their psychological conditioning, but it would have a substantial chance of breaking most powers currently in effect on them (like charm person), right?

Nothing in here, no. You'd have to try another room, or open one of the vaults (which are unlikely to contain what you're looking for, if they use the vaults for what folks usually use vaults for, i.e. storing valuables.)

No this time it was just that your suggestion was strong enough that he didn't notice you don't have Lythe's voice! One or two of the hobs might have noticed, but if they say anything, Mr. Grey won't listen.

You know, I had assumed that Ya'shenn would be able to do a fair shot of impersonating it between Bluff and sifting through the hobgoblin guard's mind. (I don't know whether that guard ever heard her speak, however.) It's also why I was using indigo text, rather than Ya'shenn's usual color. I'll be sure to spell that out if something similar occurs in a future post, though.

Yea, I figured the same thing, but I don't know how good Ya'shenn is at impressions. I don't think you actually rolled for bluff, did you? Or did I just miss it?

Well, anyway, the ruse worked, well enough that if Mr Grey sees anybody matching Ya'shenn's bogus description, he'll swear up and down that he saw them in the Brothel himself.

I offered to, but I figured a suggestion would need to be resolved first, being the more powerful ability. No problems -- I'll clarify if it comes up again.

I bet it would be. Eye-wink Gy-Nath's original instructions were only to send a missive once Ya'shenn and Daraz are in position, but they're fairly close to that point, I suppose.

Azure, I'm not entirely clear on the layout, are Gray and pals fated to encounter Gy's group on the way to their originally scheduled destination? (Ya'shenn hopes not, but I'm not sure she knows where Gy's group is right now, either.)

Actually, I don't think levitation has much use when you're moving horizontally, especially if you're in a hurry. It would be great if you guys could barricade or trap the portals somehow, though if any capable guards are left around to hear it, you may be drawing more attention than can be handled between the two of you.

Hopefully, we can box in any illithids between our two groups and bring them down collectively.

Well, I'd love to, but another encounter with guards increases the chance of their being discovered, as well as probably draining Ya'shenn's power pool even more. The liberal use of suggestion is doing no wonders for it. Not to mention the (significant) chance of either Lavender or Violet being behind Door #1.

I really don't think Lind has a choice. I'm thinking Ar'dru is the 'gentleman,' while Kaz is the 'bad boy.' Look at his description -- long hair, wears leather. You practically expect him to own a Harley. Eye-wink

Yea, Ar'dru doesn't know it, but Kaz was laughing on the inside when he called him "honorable". The guy brews poison for a living!

Also note, as was implied earlier, Lind has fended off assassination attempts before, including being poisoned. Therefore, Kaz has actually saved her life too. Multiple times, in fact.
