I wanted to do a serenity/firefly type campiagn where there is a unit of transdemesianal space called the "black" that ships use to travel from plane to plane and the prime is a pl 8 earth. I want the dimensions to be like frontier enviroment and the humans are starting up colonies in the different planes.

When a colony ship entered the the "black" and was accidently ported into the abyss they become mad. I am thinking of using the maniac template with the viral deathspawn template from the d20 apocalyse book. In my game i want to make them just like they hang out in the black raiding ships and dimensions.And of course there are the friendly githyanki. I want to make them like the alliance.

Im gonna place it when after a war in which the githyaki cut off the miterial pl8 world from the colonies set out in out world.the technology was lost for hundreds of years.finally the barrier was lifted and now the modern prime is trying to reestablish contact with those colonies which had to use magic and low technology to survive
the Firefly setting could be a great campaignworld for roleplaying, you can check some work of the spelljammer campaign setting, who also deals with space travel.
In my current campaign world you have Orcs with flying ships in reaver style, decorating their ships with the blood and body's of their victims
