EA just announced a new Bioware project that's been in development for some time now in secrecy. Planescape Torment: Vengeance. Thanks to a contract with Atari, holder of the D&D licence, EA has gotten the rights to publish this game with the condition that it be developed by EA subsidiary Bioware Corp, creators of the aclaimed Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect.
EA CEO John Riccitiello stated; "In these harsh economic times, EA and our friends at Atari strive to be beacons of hope. This partnership shows our comitment to our shareholders in bringing to life the legendary Planescape Torment setting with modern technology and sensibilities."
Bioware Vice President Greg Zeschuk is quoted as saying, "Well, we knew some of the people at Black Isle who made the original, so don't worry about it being a true sequel. Bioware Corp has a history of epic tales of good and evil, so we feel that the Planescape Torment setting is right up our alley. The Planescape Torment setting is truely epic, but we felt that the old technologies were just not up to snuff. Those isometric pre rendered graphics were fine for their time, but honestly, they really limited your imagination, being able to only see that small portion of the world. Another problem was with accessibility. Many potential players were scared off by the complexity of the plot and gameplay. We resolve to fix these issues for our project, making the game able to cater to both hardcore gamers and casuals alike."
Planescape Torment: Vengeance continues the story of The Nameless One and his epic journey. Join him in his quest to save the planes and get revenge once and for all. Planescape Torment:Vengeance will feature the latest in modern next gen inovations like HDR lighting and real mapping, using the Mass Effect engine to great affect. Over one hundred fully voiced NPCs including celebrity performances by Patrick Swayze and Mark Hamil. Gameplay additions include a revamped real time combat system, "Action" conversations similar to those in Mass Effect, and the special corruption system. Will you follow the path of good or evil? The choice is yours.
Man, Dire Lemon, you almost got me. Nicely done. I'll be honest, I started to write a reply before realization dawned.
