Hope you don't mind Joyblood, I thought I'd take this upon myself to create a thread for artwork contributions for this project. Anyhow, I said a while ago I would create some art for it, so I'm posting my picture.

Behold the horror of a night hag emerging from the darkness!

I LOVE it!

Really an old crone I wanna meet in the darkness... Eye-wink

On a side note, I can easily imagine this image to appear as part of a nightmare that a Night Hag gives to a victim. A really, really bad nightmare.

Suggestion: Every artist who wants to draw Hordling or Night Hag characters can look in the according new threads for individual characters, and post their artwork here.
Of course, it's left to the writer to decide whether the artwork fits his imagination of the character, but I'm pretty sure no cool picture will be left unused Eye-wink

I'd like to see others interpretations of the Night Hags, mine obviously had a bit of influence from Ravel Puzzlewell's design in Torment. Also I'd like to see a hordling... as I have no real idea what they are. (Too lazy to read  I mean too busy! Yeah that's it!)

I wish I didn't suck at art. Oh, and will the final art be black & white? You know... as in Grayscale?

That might be difficult. I think hordlings are too unique for their design to be pinned down to any one thing. An enterprizing individual might be able to find similar images to some of the hordlings we've designed and offer them to you as a base, though.

Oh I have many hordling designs sketch in my folio. I'll take the time to do them properly and post em up as soon as someone tell me how to post images.

Drawing hordlings is the best fun! Its like you just jazz a bit this or that, spikes, teeth or claws and then add a terrifying looking face and creepy think body or a huge muscular one or a grotesquely fat one and it all looks totally creepy. Everyone whos seen em so far thinks they look great.
I'm no artist but I try to do a good job.

I'm not really interested in illustrating hordlings, I'm sure Zeniel's work will more than suffice.

What if there would be female Hordlings?

I would really like to see Zeniel's work first. Besides, I draw more than just female characters, that's not why I refuse to draw hordlings, it's that I'm already creating several illustrations for Armoury's Desire and the Dead adventure, as well as several others.

Well If someone can tell me how to post things on the net I'd be much appreciated. And I'd be able to show you some of my creations. As soon as i redo some of them to be on a solitary page.

It depends on if you already have them on the computer or not. If they are drawn on paper you first need to scan them into the computer. Between your scanning program, Photoshop and even MSPaint you should be able to digitally separate the drawings to solitary images. The you should join photobucket.com and start uploading your images onto that website. I don't think I need to go into much detail on Photobucket as the website is very self-explanatory, and if you managed to figure planewalker.com out then you should be fine with Photobucket. Hope that helps.

Cool that'll help a lot I imagine. I've also started on a few female hordling designs. But they're in their verry early stages. Hangover + 5 hours sleep + worlds shittest performance class = - creativity

*lol*

There's pretty sure some hordlings like THAT, too.

Everybody, I'm a bit out of time right now, but keep going with your discussion - I'll go through all of it as soon as there's a bit less to do...

Ok, here are finished pictures for page numbers (b/w) and color ilustration of house falling on night hag.
Hope you like them. If you need those pictures in a bigger resolution send note to my friend Duster he'll send them to you. (Posting a bigger picture wouldn't look good on the forum). Enjoy. Smiling

That style works delightfully well for the gray sisters. I absolutely love the look--especially the second one. I imagine this style would be perfect for hordlings, too.

As of hordelings, more are on the way: for the beginning there are Snach and Voop but, alas I forgot to post them on this thread while I was at Duster´s home.

But you can check them out in Art for Desire and Dead thread in Civic Festhall by Armoury 99.

Squaff, you know I just realised the amount of times you've commented on my works in my Fiendish Females thread, and I've never been kind enough to return the favour? My bad... Sad

I love these, they're really quite beautiful works in a way. The first two look like corner pieces for a page of text or something, and the last one is very funny, I like the cartoon look you've given to the hag.

I have a question though: what do you use to colour your works? And what resolution do you scan the images at? The ink is so clean and crisp, it makes me wonder if I should try it out...

I love the picture of the house falling on the Hag. The book needs one or two pieces of levity. It's gonna be dark enough as is

Yes, that is the idea: to put litle pics of hags (in hag chapter) and hordelings (in hordling chapter) and incoporate with page numbers. Truth is: those gems in D&D books start to bore me so why don we have something more original.

In coloring I mix several tehniques: I use primarly water colors and wooden pencils in color, sometimes I even use colored markers and water colors in pencils. As of black ink: I use either black marker + ink or just black marker.
But here is litle trick wich Duster showed me: when editing picture in photoshop: first he turn the picture grayscale, than it turn it back in b/w and finaly it turns it in autocontrast. (I think that is procedure but I will ask him for details).

And (dark) humor and whackynes was, is, and allways will be part of Planescape, so that was my primary inspirtion for that one: take clasic iconic moment from Wizard of Oz (Falling house on Wicked Wich of East) and turn it Planescape style.

"What´s night hag´s two greatest fears: falling houses and buckets of water" -Planar joke that few understand.

EDIT: Scans are in res 300.

Philip, I mean Squaff (oops) started drawing and painting a bit too big pictures for my scanner lately.

So I have a bit of a problem while merging the pictures, because the lightning is always different(so I have to align the color) and I gotta rotate pics to get a perfect angle (by 0.1 degree at a time).

For that I'm sorry, because it comes out a bit different and the uploading is delayed.

Arstist comment:
It took me long time but Greae (wich means gray sisters) are finaly finished. Originaly joyblood wanted hag that was driving larve with whip and eating pixie sandwich, but since Tony Diterlizzi already did something simmilar I decided to split that idea in three segmets and use them with Greae sisters from greek mythology: One sister (with eye) drives larve with staff, other sister (one with toth) eats pixie sandwich, and the third is in the middle, blind and hungry but enjoying with the rest of her sisters. Smiling

Now that I think of it, this was pretty simple picture but the most fun part (and difficult) was designing faces of hags and larve.
