The Shiere will be in the PHB 2 as the "Shiere Knight" Racial Paragon Path, most likely a racial paragon path for Eladrin.

So I'm working through

So I'm working through converting a couple of different modules to 4e, so I'm going to be droping in with stats for monsters as I run into them. That said, I don't have much experience with the new system, so any feedback I could get would really be appreciated. With that said... here's everyone's favorite cannon foder Tanar'ri, the Mane:

That's defiantly something I intend to make happen, but right now, a non-minion version suits my needs, so that's what I'm worried about balancing. After that, I would like to make a few variations, including a minion style Mane for when you just have to have a hoard.

Rutterkin is re-named Evistro in MM and it is a level 6 brute. Manes are certainly good like minions.

Really? I could have sworn there was both an Evistro and a Rutterkin in 3.x and only the Evistro made it to the first MM. Anyhow, I digress...

As requested, the Mane in Minion form. This looks a lot more balanced to me personally, but again, I would appreciate second, third and fourth opinions on this.

It looks good and

It looks good and balanced.
I'd only prefer them as level 5-6 minions.
They could be a more challenging gated creatures and usually the minion versions are +2-3 level up of the standard creatures.

Nice work!   I agree

Nice work!

I agree that manes and dretches have minion-feel all over them. Same for lemures.

Its not just the lowest of the lowest, thing. Its also that they're treated and used as expendable cannon-fodder, and usually are employed in big waves. Perfect for minions.

Thanks! Anyhow, I've

Thanks!

Anyhow, I've borrowed my friends MM2, so I'll  give it a quick run through with everything that applies to PS.

Barghests: two types of them make their return in MM2, one which a bugbear (a 4th level brute) and the other as a hobgoblin (a 7th level controller). Both look interesting, the bugbear steals attacks, while the hob steals HP.

Bebilith: Doesn't destroy your armor anymore, but gives a cumulative penalty each time you get hit. Level 18 Solo Brute.

Dretch: A 2nd level Brute and really close to what I did with the Mane, so I think they tried to role them together. Using the Manes as minions should keep them distinct though.

Nycaloth ("Nycademon"): Annoying name aside, what they did with the Nycaloth is really interesting. They've give them the ability to Snatch enemies up into the air, either to separate them, or (more likely) to drop them and hit them with the ground.

Yochol: Loth's favorite handmaidens. Next.

Erinyes: There's something called the Erinyes in here, but it's a warrior and "arbiter of justice for devils" that in no way resembles the original Erinyes except for being female. I personally will continue using the Sucubus until something ends up being homebrewed.

Kyton: A greater version now exists in the Gorechain Devil.

Djinn: They're back to rule the plane of air

Coure: Again, as a type of warrior in the Eladrin race called the Coure of Mischief and Strife

Genasi: A whole bunch of them to be used as foes/NPCs

Marut: Three new versions, cause you can never have enough Maruts

Retrievers: They're backkkk.......  Eye rays and all, with the ability to planeshift.Level 27 Solider.

Slaadi: Two completely new sladdi, the flux sladd, which brings them into the heroic tier, albeit at level 9, and the slaad spawn, which is a mini slaadi minion. Complete with a template for the sladd spawner, who create slaad spawn through budding.

Phase Spider: Aka one more reprint and one more reason why I'm not buying Dragon or DDI.

I think that's all from the PS books, although there are a bunch of there classic monsters in there too. All in all, looks to be pretty good.

What the heck is all the code-gook? I have a hard enough time just trying to understand the premises behind creating 4e creatures, let alone trying to filter through all this stuff too... Where is this coming from? Is it copied text from elsewhere? Is it necessary for these forums? My primary opinion of it is, "Ick."

I am generally interested in converting some creatures to 4e, although my knowledge of the new system so far puts me in a position to dislike it. Maybe if I see some things get converted in a way that I will understand it might help me to be less disgusted with 4e concepts. I have a genuine urge to begin writing publication material, but I don't want to constantly be fighting the RPG market & industry - so I am torn between learning to write in 4e and just sticking with 3.5 and Pathfinder, revised 3e d20, etc.

I am so sad that Modrons are being brushed aside in favor of less interesting lawful outsiders and lame excuses for living construct outsiders. Not to mention how confusing the new creature types are.... Oi.

Re: 4E Planescape Mostrous Update

That's called: What happens when you copy and paste from Word into a javascript what-you-see-is-what-you-get editor. Word "helpfully" includes such information, and is one of the primary reasons we moved to strictly BBCode input for these forums. If you find yourself entering information into a wysiwyg editor in the future, remember to paste into notepad then copy and paste that into the editor to avoid extraneous code. Please note the date of the original post. Eye-wink I doubt the posters here have returned to this thread to check formatting given the age.

The code must be a remnant of something that Clueless did to the forums. I'll let her know about it. It sure wasn't in my original post.

[Edit: And... she Dr McNinja-ed me]

Anyhow, there's pros and cons to using both 3.5 and 4e with any setting. I actually think that it works really well for Planescape and judging the level for monster is a lot easier, which helps with the conversions. I hear you on the confusion though, it took me a bit too.

And the Modrons will get done many times over by us, don't worry Eye-wink

It's pretty easy for the original poster to edit the post and remove stray bits like that btw, it's actually in your text. I would run a script against the database but the risk of blowing away real data is higher than the return.

Re: 4E Planescape Mostrous Update

A lot of MS Word copied stuff is hidden within HTML comments, though sometimes it actually gets transformed into HTML encoded material.

You know, I actually thought they transferred Mephits over to 4e, but when I did a Compendium search, Mephit turned up blank. But they should be an easy enough task to bring to 4e stats, as mainly a bunch of heroic tier skirmishers, with others like Magma as brutes and other roles.

Some creatures also deserve having a Familiar Feat version too, which requires less thought in actual stats, and more thought based on constant and active benefits. Maybe a Minidrone (the size Tiny version of a Monodrone) and a Mini-Slaad might be something to come up with.

Well, I don't foresee myself switching to 4e anytime soon, but I am always willing to create new content that can be used in such a system. I just in the last two years began actually creating for 3.5e when they switched over on me... *grumbles* I will simply retain the rights to ask my local experts for help. Eye-wink

As for Modrons, I have good news: I am doing some conceptual work to make Primus even cooler than what we had previously envisioned, and making sure that the details of the Inifinity Web and a Modron's physiology are much more concise and available than what has been presented in the past. That sounds like I don't appreciate the work others have put into them, but actually I have been referring to all the materials that others have created for D&D, AD&D, PS, Dragon, etc.

My major contribution as of right now would be Primus as a deity write-up in both the short deity stats (as in 'Races of the Wild') and extensive stats (as in 'Deities & Demigods'). This is part of a whole series of concepts I am working on to help work on some fantasy technology material. I have all new technology deities too, which makes me happy. Eye-wink

On a totally different note, has anyone ever heard of 'Seraphim' angels? I made stats for one in 3.5e. Would love a review. Best wishes,

Maybe I will have to take up a mentor to help me get used to creating for 4e... Modrons would be a good start. Eye-wink I am currently putting together a few illustrations of Modron physical composition (I originally called it physiology, and then realized that it was more like taking apart a computer and decided against that term). Too bad Modrons are no longer viable for Ecology articles... I think they have some old school fans that would appreciate another publication run including them... Not to mention that Primus is a deity, and could definitely save his race from extinction by ascending into the Astral Sea in order to save Regulus post-cosmological shift into the 4e planes.

But then those thoughts are quite rational... Not a very strong point to 4e conceptualization and marketing tactics. I've noticed that WotC is now pandering to a much more low-brow demographic with the new edition.... It's a little sad.... Okay, a lot sad. Sticking out tongue

Series of causal questions

Has anyone compiled all of the monsters from previous editions (many former monsters are now playable races)? The list above is amazingly in-depth.

If so, has anyone translated them into 4E (stats, powers, etc. for the ones that didn't make the official WOTC cut)?

If so, has anyone fed them into the Adventure Tools (for ease of printing out stat blocks)?

If so, would anyone be so kind as to share them with me?

I'm planning on starting up a homebrew 4E Planescape based primarily on the fine work everyone here has done (along with some tweaks from a variety of other sources).

Re: 4E Planescape Mostrous Update

aren't manes and rutterkin in demonomicon 4e?

my 0.2. for the most part I love cosmological changes in 4e buuuut in some cases (bebilith, cough, cough...) they have just screwed it. but I just choose to ignore these changes. In my game tieflings are still planetouched out of diterlizzi illustrations and not something out of the david icke conspiracy theory.

the point: if something has been stated by WoTC (bebilith again) it still doesn't mean that it conforms to the old PS material.
