The 4E Forgotten Realms Cosmology and the Core rulebook/Manual of the Planes cosmology are similar, but not identical. For one things, the planes in 4E FR have alignments listed, unlike the ones in the Core books or MOTP. Also, The FR books specifically mention the "Great Tree" cosmology of 3E Faerun, and stating that the current FR cosmos is evolved from that one (i.e. the events of 3E Forgotten Realms DID occur), whereas the Core rulebooks and the MOTP treat the Great Wheel as if it never existed. Characters that were dead in 3E or 3.5 are back, like Demogorgon, The Githyanki Lich-Queen, and Geryon (who in 3.5 became a visage, but is not back to his old self -hurray!) The Faction War apparently occured in this reality as in 2E, but other events of planar importance either did not or are drastically altered (i.e. the Blood War)... your thoughts?

Fair enough, but anyone
Fair enough, but anyone planning on using the new 4E books and material is gonna want to keep track of the changes, same as when 3E was released (of course, 3E didn't change nearly as much, but the plane of Shadow did get an overhaul and boosted role in the game, and I'm sure you can think or similar additions/subtractions...)
Honestly, my thoughts on 4es cosmology are unchanged--in that I couldn't care less. On a completely unrelated tangent, the Lich Queen isn't cannonicaly dead--except in PWs own cosmology (being a player in BoGR may have confused my answer).
