3rd linkage plane?

First up, sorry about the title of the thread, couldnt think of the right word, nonetheless......

In planescape, we have the Rule of Three and the Unity of Rings, so I ask, shouldn't there be another linkage type plane, between the outer and inner planes (direct).....

Cannon wise:-

innner planes<----->etheral<----->prime<----->astral<------>outer planes

surely, a 3rd unknown must exist to go with the Astral + Etheral for the Rule of Three and to forefill the Unity of Rings

...---->outer planes<---->unknown<------> inner planes<-----...

Any thoughts? has this been asked before?

Well according to the fanon (I love that word,) there is the ordial plane. Its statless, but an interesting concept. Check the PSCS or the encyclopedia.

It's not jsut fanon - it's in canon too as a blurb.

It's a throwaway one liner I noticed when I was working through the background research for chapter 8. I'm looking for it now.

Edit:

Support located as a reference, Guide to the Ethereal Plane, pg 7. Tossed in at the tail end of the Planar Geography section. It's not specifically named, but clearly refers to the rumor of something filling that '3rd' slot. I couldn't recall if it was support for the theory or if it actually dropped the name there. It doesn't, but it's not an out-of-the-question sort of theory. Canon material ont eh concept has done much less than even we have. And we've not done much.

3rd linkage plane would be the Plane of Shadow. Which wasn't anything special in Planescape canon, but is in 3e canon as one of the 3 official Transitive Planes.

Shadow as described in the Manual of Planes links to the material plane itself, and is suggested as a link to other multiverses. However the Manual of Planes also presents an option of having the Plane of Shadow link to outer and inner planes, much like the Astral or Ethereal Planes too.
