3rd edition Hashkar

What class would you make him?

I think expert, master [War of the Lance], factotum [Dungeonscape], archivist [Heroes of Horror], or ardent [Complete Psionic], or even oracle - enlightened philosopher archetype from Pathfinder.

Not an oracle; he's a sage, not a prophet. I've always thought of him as an expert, but that's very generic. The problem with archivist is that it's built around "dark knowledge" of monsters, and Hashkar cares more about contemplating the laws of reality. Factotum isn't bad, but it's based around adventuring skills and Hashkar isn't really an adventurer. Ardent makes a lot of sense; his primary mantles would be Law and Justice, I think.

Haskar's an Expert with a bunch of extras added, he was a 0-level character in 2e, so 0-level characters become NPC classes in 3e.

Master Sage from Dragonlance 3rd edition is not that generic as expert, the ardent is more fun tough, law, justice, or knowledge mantles - with offensive powers in them replaced.
