Volunteer to Edit

Welcome!

You have now been granted access to our editorial queue.

While we are a volunteer group, we do expect you to do some work if you've volunteered to be an editor. Please regularly check the queue at: Editor Queue. You will also receive emails when we get new submissions.

Your job as an editor is:

  • Check articles for grammar and spelling

  • Check articles for style

  • Check articles for length (too long, too short for intended article feature)

  • Suggest an article feature category if one is not already suggested

  • Check articles for interesting content

Don't forget to preview!
There's a new tool for editors and writers - the Print Preview tab on the article. This tab will give you a best guess view of what your article will look like on a sheet of paper in our layout. I'll tweak it as we work to get the layout closer and closer to what our human layout editors do - but in the meantime, it makes for a great tool to help you get a feel for your page length.

The article belongs to the author and is submitted to our editors with a great deal of trust and faith. Please keep that in mind as you work and don't neglect the queue.

You may have to turn an article down or send it back to an author for a rewrite if you can't resolve issues with it yourself. Be kind when you do this, but also remember that keeping our articles to a standard is healthy for the fanzine and for the author's further development as a writer. Rejection and rewrites are where an author's true skill develops.

Once you think an article is ready to go - give it one last look over. You'll see a 'vote up/down' toggle at the bottom of the article. Click that to mark your approval. Once the approval score reaches 3, the article will be passed up to the layout editors to be made into a PDF.
