Rillifane Rallathil in the (2e) planes

So I've been doing some research on Arvandor lately, and I can't really find anything about Rillifane Rallathil anywhere. Maybe I haven't looked in the right places yet, though.

His name is mentioned in the Book of Chaos as one of the powers in Arvandor, but there's no mention of him beyond that. He's not in On Hallowed Ground, not even on the map or in an index.

Does anyone know where or how he is in Arvandor? I know he's described as a great plane-spanning oak tree in some sources, but the only giant oak worthy of note in Arvandor is Grandfather Oak. I can't help but wonder if that might be him (Grandfather Oak is staggeringly old), but Grandfather Oak's high-up is a treant. Maybe it's just a misconception, but why would it be kept a secret that Grandfather Oak is a god?

I'm wondering if maybe Rillifane slipped through the cracks during publication of On Hallowed Ground like he did with Monster Mythology. Or maybe it's some weird ode to the slip-up with MM?

Any insight or direction would be appreciated.

If you haven't yet, you

If you haven't yet, you should check the references section of his article on the Forgotten Realms wiki (https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Rillifane_Rallathil#References). From that, it appears that he had at least an entry in Demihuman Deities and then Faiths and Pantheons.

Perused the 2E offerings

I checked out the 2E books listed there. Demihuman Deities is one of the great treasures of my quest (I don't play Forgotten Realms, but I still bought it because it's so amazing). I didn't remember anything being in the Evermeet book, but I checked anyway and found a reference to a book I hadn't looked in yet. Nothing of value for my Rillifane search was in there (but there were tidbits elsewhere I could utilize). I even found a PDF download of Spellbound to see what was in there, and it wasn't anything particularly useful.

I am vexed by the dearth of information about Rillifane in Planescape. I feel like I must just be missing it... I might just have to rely solely on the vague description in DD, that he's a "giant ethereal oak tree ... that stands at the heart of Arvandor, the High Forest of Olympus." It's not like it's unheard of for Planescape maps to be inaccurate or anything...

Long time

Long time since I've seen a reference to Deities and Demigods... He's in that book for sure. Of course, it's 1E, but easily convertible to any other edition. I've got an online source for that book if you're interested.
You're right though, odd that he's not mentioned in On Hallowed Ground. Mind you, Monster Mythology pretty much set the scene as far as 2 E pantheons go...

Forgotten but not lost

I think I've got a PDF of Deities and Demigods already. I appreciate the offer!

I did track down Rillifane's entry that was supposed to go in Monster Mythology; they printed it in Dragon Magazine #191. Maybe whoever was putting together On Hallowed Ground wasn't told about that? He was mentioned in the Book of Chaos, so it's not like they edited him out of Planescape completely, as they did some other Demihuman Deities entries like Shevarash and Angharradh. (Though, to be fair, I don't think I could entirely discount the argument that the singular mention of him was the mistake, in the face of the dearth of information elsewhere.)

Maybe I could try to put together an unofficial "lost" On Hallowed Ground entry for Rillifane...

Glad you've got it then.

Glad you've got it then.
I've pretty much got every D%D book ever published. Way back in the day there were some fabulous resources out there..
Yeah, I made a number of additions to certain pantheons that seem to have been dropped or lost over the years. I added back in the Finnish gods and also some additions to the Seelie /Unseelie court.
Funny you mention the unofficial "lost" list. There's an entry in OHG way back on page 182 that lists the "Dead Powers". I always thought it could have been more extensive.
