Can petitioners have children?

Since many petitioners have bodies resembling what they looked like before they died on the Prime, I'm assuming that petitioners can have sex. However, are they effectively sterile, or could they have children? And if so, would the kids count as petitioners, too? What if a petitioner got it on with a prime or planar? What would their kids count as?

wow

wow
That's something I should have brought up in my "Petitioners, Planars and population" thread. I'd never considered it.
I'm guessing they wouldn't be sterile. So, I imagine then that any progeny would count as planar natives.
hmm...

Counter-Point

I've always considered petitioners (if I'm not getting my terms mixed up) as the "souls" of the deceased. In that sense, I've always considered them above physical needs of food, carnal desires, etc. (excluding the pains inflicted for infernal punishments) For that reason, I always thought of them as a zero-population growth except for the "immigration" of new souls that have died.

But...if angels and fiends are sometimes iterations of such souls as they move further up/down the holy/unholy ladders, and there are tieflings and aasimar in the world; I guess there has to be some possibility of procreation. Or are the procreating beings created by the gods directly?

I guess I'm saying that I'm confused

Hey Palomides,

Hey Palomides,

I had your exact perspective as well. Until I recently reread all the core material, and then became confused. Thus, my "Petitioners, Planars and population" thread. Therein, I posed the questions that you've brought forth.
Responses there were illuminating. Though I'm still iffy on some things..

Perhaps those petitioners who

Perhaps those petitioners who become celestials or fiends (re)gain the power of reproduction, along with the other abilities they gain.
