Wailing Isle

Hearsay: Somewhere in the dead Krangath, an island in a lake of thin ice is home to the source of the Lady's power. A place of all pain and uncaring cold. Many disregard this, as being in Gehenna wouldn't make sense. However the rumors of an unidentified strange lady that is seen infrequently, floating above the isle are ever increasing.

Description: As planewalkers wander on the dead Furnace, they may sometimes hear a distant wailing and moaning, as they get closer to the site. What causes this is unknown but the ones who have tried to investigate too much weren't seen again.

Actually many that got close enough to see it felt a searing pain all over their bodies, almost tearing them apart. Worse yet it grows stronger as one draws near. Still, these explorers reported on seeing a robed flying feminine figure with something around her head. Sages speculate that this may be indeed a realm of the Lady of Pain! Which leads to the barmy conclusion that Sigil may be connected somehow to this place. Other sages, more peery, say this is just another realm of some goddess of pain and misery, like Loviatar's. Contra-argument accuses that there didn't seem to be any petitioners in there.

Some yet say this may be a place like the Pit of Flame or the Harmonica: the concentration of a great planar energy in a single place. Or even a lost bladeling magical city like the one in Ocanthus. The isle is accessible only by the thin ice as some mysterious force drags fliers down, crashing them into icy black currents of what seems to be a lost meander of the Styx. Crossing the three kilometers of ice, the island appears to be a sharp forest of blades that strike down unwary travelers into hidden razorvine. Or so say the chant of those that watched from the border with sense-enhancing magic. What really is in the island has yet to be discovered.

Special Properties: Those that approach start hearing the moans and wails, but at ten kilometers or less it's the berk's screams that are heard, as he feels pain too strong to bear. Penalties for doing anything in this state range from -1 in the ten mark and increasing with each kilometer.

Recent Happenings: A strange mage and a psionicist claim to have confirmed the rumors of the Lady connection. Seemingly they scanned the place and saw nothing but a curve plain, but when they watched around a corner there it was the outer section of Sigil! Even then, some dismiss this as an elaborate hoax. The two were willing to let anyone search their minds for the truth, but they somehow disappeared without trace some days ago. Whether they were mazed or just had their offer accepted by some hungry illithid is up to question.
