The Facades

"Who says things got to make sense?"

The Facades are a row of buildings in the Clerks Ward with no backsides. From the front, they're populated and active. From the back, they don't exist at all. There's nothing there but wide-open street, easily walked. Turn around and they're there again.

They've been there for a long time, and it's thought that they were designed this way in order to reduce their connections with the then nearby Hive Ward. Note: The slow migration of Wards has resulted in the Facades now being closer to the Guildhall Ward than the Hive.

Other explanations include an aborted attack by the Sign of One or a split in the city over whether the buildings existed or not, perhaps due to a clerical or mapping error. Some have even suggested the vengeance of the Lady of Pain. Perhaps half of the buildings were spun off into a maze?

Otherwise, the Facades are fairly ordinary. There's nothing unusual about their current inhabitants, except perhaps the eccentricity that causes them to prefer paradoxical dwellings.
