Gehenna's mysterious God of the Edge is worshipped at the edges of each of the four Furnaces. Burgs that live there sacrifice victims at definite intervals by throwing them off the edge; the victims disappear, but their screams linger for hours. Whenever possible, passers-by and criminals are the ones thrown over the edge, but sometimes lots are drawn. There are few if any actual worshippers of this power; fear being the real motivating factor behind the practice of sacrifice.

Role-playing Notes: The God of the Edge never directly helps its worshippers. Those that make sacrifices are generally kept safe from streams of magma and landslides. Those who do not, suffer increasingly from such "natural" disasters until they either make appropriate sacrifice or are entirely wiped out. Making more sacrifices than other burgs increases one's safety, but puts the inhabitants in an uncomfortable position of wondering when they will be chosen to be sacrificed.

Statistics: Alignment LE; Worshippers' Alignment any evil; Area of Control Natural disaster, punishment; Symbol An undercut cliff's edge.

The God of the Edge has no known avatar.

Duties of the Priesthood: Priests of the God of the Edge choose who is to be sacrificed. This is usually criminals and newcomers, but anyone who tries to leave the area is also a natural choice. Although these priests are hated, they are rarely killed for fear of the power's retribution. When a burg is swept off the edge due to a lack of sacrifices, the priest is inevitably carried along for his failure.
