Yugoloths and Incarnum

Preface: I was not involved with the initial research and development of the techniques used in these experiments, as I had not yet been assigned to my master, who introduced me to the project. Vasqui has made several reports on the techniques and processes used in the experiments, several copies of each should be available at the libraries in each of the Great Towers. This report contains a brief history of the experiment and our latest results. A number of overviews of notable subjects have also been included.History:While the project only began about two decades ago, its true history goes back just past a millennium. At that time, we were aware of Incarnum but never harnessed it, preferring to use the children of the Mother/Fathers and raw arcane might as opposed to mortal-tainted soul energy of the universe. The Guardianals, on the other hand, had no such qualms, and a young cousin of Talisid named Tandrel Lon rose to prominence, and made several costly expeditions to Carceri and The Wastes, where several promising projects were lost due to his interference. These incursions promted the Ultroloth Bel Shalash to examine the source of the Leonal's powers more closely. His studies came to fruition when he and the arcanoloth's aiding him began to exibit the ability to control Incarnum and draw of the twisted nature of Vaath to creat soulmelds. This new found knowledge, as well as the element of suprise, was enough to catch Tandrel Lon off guard and mortally wound him, although he did not perish before reaching the Upper Planes. It is possible that the return of he soul to the planes has led to creation of a spiritual successor to his powers, given what they were.Bel Shalash retreated for our histories at this time, and although he continued to further his plans in the glory of the Mother/Fathers, he spent the majority of his time further researching possible uses of Incarnum. Not long before the rise of Mydianchlarus, he emerged from this seclusion to create the first mezzoloth Incarnates and Totemists. After the Oinoloth's rise to power, he was commissioned to expand the perimeters of his research in order to create a full fledged breeding program. Results:The exact number of our kind that we have subjected to this process is unknown, even to the coordinators of the program, as the various cells have been compartmentalized across the lower planes. Bel Shalash (NE Ultroloth totemist 10) continues to develop the project from Carceri and often tests subjects against 'Leths, looking for patterns in effective subjects. My master and I continue our research in Gehenna, while Bel Aloth is the nominal leader on the Wastes. We have managed to produce mezzoloths of both the totemist and incarnate varieties, with the latter being more common, and former being more powerful on average. Many of these individuals have show promise and a surprising number have advanced through the castes at what some have called an alarming rate. One of the first projects spawned, named Charu, has already reached the status of marraenoloth, although he is certainly the exception rather then the rule. Interestingly, the rank of Dergholoth can pass in a matter of months for the average subject, somehow the link to incarnum has made these yugoloths more resilient to the effects of having their souls sundered and bound to those of mortals.

Yugoloths and Incarnum

I had an ultroloth who infused a child of his with incarnum to use as an assassin.

Yugoloths and Incarnum

I like this one. Ti gives some depth to somewhat bland fluff presented in book.

It certanly opens new interesting questions. Like: What Factions think about incarnum and incarnum users, does Tanar'ri and Baatezu have their Incarnates and Soulborns, what Petitoners think about incarnum users (francky I would be offendended if some guy used me and my soul to form socks and pants, even if the proces is basicly harmless).

That part when it states that yugoloths who use incarnum advance more quickly is brilliant (they practicaly gorge themselfs with soul energy). It also gives hints about origins of Souleaters (monsters presented in book), or even alternative origins of Devourers.
Idea is that fiends who overuse incarnum evantualy "mutate" into Souleaters or even Devourers.

Enyways, enough of my rant. Two thumbs and tentacle up.

Yugoloths and Incarnum

Very cool. I've never seen a whole lot done with Incarnum, but some of its darker aspects seemed to lend themselves well to bringing the 'loths into the picture (which MoI never did).
