Salt Element Creatures

Salt Element Creatures are most at home in the Quasi-elemental Plane of Salt or other similar places, they could also be found in the Negative Energy Plane where all water has long been dried up or corrupted. They appear as their material counterparts all encrusted with a very thick layer of salt crystals. Their ever-thirsty eyes glow from beneath the outer layers of salt.

Creating a Salt Element Creature Salt element is an inherited template that can be added to any corporeal creature of the types: aberration, animal, dragon, fey, giant, humanoid, magical beast, monstrous humanoid, plant or vermin. A salt element creature uses all of the base creature’s stats unless otherwise noted. Do not recalculate the creature’s hit dice, BAB and so on.

Type: The creature’s type changes to elemental and it gains the water subtype.

Armor Class: Natural armor bonus increases by +2.

Special Attacks: A salt element creature maintains the special attacks of the base creature, and gets the following.

Desiccation (Ex): Those hit by the natural attacks of the salt element creature suffer an additional amount of desiccation damage based on its HD as shown below. Desiccation damage drains the moisture from victim's body, and can affect only creatures with moisture in their bodies (no effect on constructs and some undead). Against plants and creatures with the water subtype, the desiccation damage is doubled.

Drain Liquids (Ex): The ash element creature can drain any exposed non-magical quantity liquid that is smaller than the creature with a touch. The creature can also dispell potions and other magical liquids as if dispel magic was cast at a caster level equal to the creature's HD. It does not affect creatures from the Plane of Water in any way.

Special Qualities: A salt element creature retains all of the base creature’s special qualities and also gains the following:

Darkvision 60 feet

Damage Reduction (Ex): They gain DR based on the table below. If the base creature already has damage reduction, use the better of the two.

Water Vulnerability (Ex): Although the salt element creature feeds by draining moisture from others, it is vulnerable to direct exposure to water. Common water damages salt element creatures as if it were acid. A flask of water can be thrown as a splash weapon. A direct hit deals 1d6 points of damage and every salt element creature within 5 feet of the point where the flask of water hits takes 1 point of damage from the splash. In addition, immersing a salt element creature entirely under water destroys it instantly.

If the base creature has one of the special qualities already, use the better one.

Skills: Same as base creature. If intelligence is at least 4, it speaks Aquan.

Environment: Quasi-elemental plane of salt.

Challenge Rating: HD 3 or less as base creature; HD 4 to 7 as base creature +1; HD 8+ or more, as base creature +2

Alignment: Usually neutral.

Level Adjustment: As base creature +4
