A warm gust of wind suddenly erupts, nearly knocking you over. Turning, you look upon a humanoid creature hundreds of feet tall, composed entirely of blackness, with numerous star-like objects lighting it from within.

An Aleron is a creature of immense power which can be found beyond the so-called "12th ring" of the Outlands, deep inside the Hinterlands. It is believed to also dwell on the Ordial Plane, the supposed transitive plane connecting the Outer and Inner planes directly. Alerons are a very old race, some say the first. Their bodies are composed more of thought than substance. They know many secrets and many things long forgotten by the rest of the multiverse. If an explorer of the Hinterlands bears no ill intent, sometimes a nearby Aleron will choose to appear and share its wisdom. Due to their tongues ability, Alerons speak all languages of the planes; their voices are surprisingly soft and melodious.

Combat

Alerons are peaceful beings, and only in the most dire of circumstances will one use force to defend itself, although they will provide aid when required. They prefer employing their substantial arcane might to using brute physical force, but they do not hesitate to engage in melee if circumstances are appropriate. An Aleron's natural weapons, as well as any weapons it wields, are treated as epic and good-aligned for the purpose of bypassing damage reduction.

Soul Separation (Su) : An Aleron uses this attack sparingly and with great sorrow, because the harm it causes is not repairable. Once per round, it can make a touch attack that deals no damage but instead causes the target to make a Fortitude save (DC 47). If the save fails, its soul is ripped out of its material body, and hurled into the “Ordial Plane” and to an unknown fate. A soul destroyed in this manner cannot be restored through raise dead, resurrection, wish, or any other mortal magic; it is possible that even a direct divine intervention would fail. The save DC is Charisma-based. The victim’s body remains behind, still physically alive (its metabolic processes in a stasis of sorts), but mindless, soulless, and utterly unresponsive. It is said that certain night hags and their yugoloth superiors would pay a pretty pile of jink for such a body, a tabula rasa for them to experiment with.

Spell-Like Abilities : Continuously active – arcane sight, nondetection, see invisibility, tongues; at will – clairaudience/clairvoyance, commune with nature, greater teleport, heal (DC 26), legend lore; 1/year – wish; caster level 50th. The save DCs are Charisma-based.

Spells : An Aleron casts arcane spells as a 25th-level Sorcerer; it can also cast spells from the Good, Strength, and Travel domains as arcane spells. Typically known spells (6/9/9/9/9/8/8/8/8/7/2/2/2 per day, save DC 22 + spell level): 0 – arcane mark, dancing lights, detect magic, detect poison, ghost sound, mage hand, mending, prestidigitation, resistance; 1st – disguise self, longstrider, protection from evil, true strike, unseen servant; 2nd – detect thoughts, eagle’s splendor, misdirection, gust of wind, whispering wind; 3rd – fly, magic circle against evil, major image, suggestion; 4th – dimensional anchor, holy smite, rainbow pattern, spell immunity; 5th – baleful polymorph, dismissal, major creation, righteous might; 6th – blade barrier, greater dispel magic, mislead; 7th – control weather, grasping hand, holy word; 8th – greater shout, holy aura, telekinetic sphere; 9th – astral projection, mage’s disjunction, time stop.

Feats : Due to its Devastating Critical and Overwhelming Critical feats, whenever an Aleron scores a critical hit with its slam attack, the target must make a DC 54 Fortitude save or die instantly. If the save is successful, it survives and takes an additional +1d6 points of damage. Creatures immune to critical hits can’t be affected by these feats.

Habitat/Society

Virtually nothing is known on the subject of Aleron society. It is speculated that on the Ordial Plane they live in utopian communities ruled by sages. Those that planewalkers have encountered in the Hinterlands were solitary explorers and observers.

Ecology

Some believe Alerons grow – both in body and spirit – by sharing knowledge with others. Those which have shared their secrets with many are known to be hundreds of feet tall or more. It is not known if Alerons have a limit to their size, but many greybeards believe that Alerons ascend to godhood when they reach a certain size.

The smallest Alerons encountered were the size of particularly large humans. It is speculated that these are the youngest of the race, perhaps even the equivalent of children. Soul Separation (Su) : As detailed in the Combat section above, except the save DC is 29.

Extremely powerful beings. I wonder what could stop them if they ever decided to conquer the lower planes.
