Duecarverrahk

(Doo-eh-car-var-rack) Duecarverrahk is supposedly an entity of great psionic power whose origins are said to be ancient and mysterious. Tales among the numerous mind flayer clergy and enclaves hold little actual truth about the reality of the entity some refer to as The Madness. What is commonly known among those who are educated enough to make assumptions about such an entity say that Duecarverrahk exists beyond time and space itself... in the Realm that the illithids were birthed from. Speculation abounds about whether such a belief has any true accuracy, but even the most powerful mind flayers refuse to completely deny the existence of such a power. For those that do know of the Lord of Eternal Thought, they receive its blessings (if such incoherent babble can be registered as such) and thoughts by interpreting unusual qualith that are believed to suddenly appear before the mind flayer whose service has not gone unnoticed. Whether said mind flayer can actually understand the qualiths is another matter entirely. For the knowledge such sigils hold could relate to concepts that the mind flayer doesn't understand, or events that may not have even happened yet. The thoughts from Duecarverrahk apparently have little order to them. However, continued exposure to these special qualith has been known to wear away at the foundations of an illithid's sense of self and sanity. Prolonged exposure often results in a complete loss of mental faculties and the inability to distinguish its personality from the dreams of the Lord of Eternal Thought who now speaks to the mind flayer directly.Such illithids are usually, although not always, hunted down and eradicated by their fellow mind flayers simply because the affected flayers have became a danger to the illithid enclave due to the loss of control of their mental abilities. As such, while the worship of Duecarverrahk isn't denied, it isn't exactly encouraged either. There are some enclaves that have outlawed the worship of the The Madness completely, as the Elder Brain is said to see the mighty power of the deity as a direct threat to it's control of the enclave. Duecarverrahk is theorised to appear as nothing more than an insubstantial cloud of stray thoughts shaped by the essence of both madness and chaos. If, and when it has chosen to appear before those who believe, the form of The Madness can be one of any myriad shapes or patterns. The most common however, is a mass of elongated grey tentacles. Those who believe are usually psions or telepaths of the highest order. This is only because they have the mental discipline necessary to halt the maddening effects of the touching of minds with Duecarverrahk longer than most, for a time. Eventually however, they will succumb, just as those whose discipline isn't as strong or developed. Strangely, there are no known clerics who have been acknowledged as worshipping The Madness. This may be a strategic choice by the clerics of various illithid enclaves who are afraid to give up the power they may have collected while in the service of their god. They may choose to keep their beliefs secret, while falsely following the faith of the lesser (at least according to Duecarverrahk) illithids gods. The true goals of the Lord of Eternal Thought aren't known, even among its inner cabal of high priests. The truth of the matter may be even worse than the true nature of the god itself... Perhaps there is no final goal... or perhaps the purpose and ambition of Duecarverrahk is so disturbing that only those who join with the mass in the afterlife can be said to truly understand the urges driving The Madness.
