As Primus said, it makes little sense to take a feat in order to replace one skill with another, especially if 6 ranks in the original skill are a prerequisite for the feat.

Requirements: Constitution: 13+, Wisdom: 13+, Concentration: 6 ranks, Control: 6 ranks. 1 rank in Knowledge: The Planes (Limbo, Ethereal, or Astral depending on plane this feat is used on) Thorough experimentation with the morphic natures of planes such as the Ethereal Plane, the Astral Plane, and Limbo, you learn that controling the environments of such planes is remarkably similar to focusing one's own mind to manifest powers. Benefit: When atempting to control the environment of Limbo, the Astral, or the Ethereal, you may roll a concentration check instead of a control check. You still use the table found with the Control skill to determine the result. In addition, you gain a +2 synergy bonus to your Control skill rolls from your ranks in Concentration. |

Actually in my opinion it is for those who wish to double the bump from their skill points. If you are good enough to have 6pts each in Concentration and Control you may take this feat. After taking it each point you dump into Concentration is equivalent to one point in Concentration AND one point in Control. You never need actually add points to your control skill after that.
Something I would use if I was adventuring in Limbo or the Astral a lot. Your alternative is a good one, but this is still a valid approach.
