The multiverse always was and always will. The relativity of time is the first of the Mbe assumptions. They are descendants from the people from the stars of Arborea, those they call the Bao. The word means both gods and ancestors, like most things in mbe language. Once, the Bao are said to be the ones who were seen as the pacific elders of Arborea and its own substance. The Bao sleep now, the time for them to awaken is far still.

When they slept they left one of them guarding their sleep from interference, Mbo-Ya. He saw in his dream protection that the plane was inhabited by a ancient tribe of mortals. There he offered them the stars as a home to their passing, with plenty of baya-ya, the root that grew in their soil. The village wanted it, but could not fathom what Mbo-Ya said.

At night, their children united to heed his words as the adults would not. They watched the stars above when their people only saw the ground. Thus, they climbed the highest trees and fled, leaving the tribe behind and screamed so Mbo-Ya would hear them.

Seeing the gifted children came to ask him of the Bao, he taught them the dream and the stars, letting them scatter. The children just let go of all the concepts and learning of the tribe, their morality until there was only a single void calm and they perceived the feelings. Those that did not come found time and old age, while the mbe just were. Needing never speak again.

Mbo-Ya later was faced with Fia-So that stopped the rivers from flowing in the right direction to dry the forests. Thus he went in disguise as a little fly to Baator and stopped the stars from falling When Fia-So raced to see what had happened he took the stored water and evaporated it into the clouds, taking it to Arborea to fall as rain.
