Fiery Curtain
Copyright © 1999 by Leo Character: From The Tortuous Path of the Mount Celestia by the throne archon Tholshazzar: "The passage a new state of existence, as the fusion of metals, the soul passes through water and fire to become imperishable. The fiery curtain is the dividing line between the perishable and the imperishable; the passage effects a mutation and the imperfect becomes perfect." Ruler: Begot by a fallen eladrin, Iltheia (Pl/female aasimar W6/LE) killed her own mother and gained the trust of the baatezu and the administration of this city. She rules in a strange, murderous way, with weekly executions of anything they manage to incriminate or capture and bizarre demonstrations of baatezu principles. Behind the throne: Ixion (Pl/male human F9/CE) is the imprisoned being that the baatezu have brought to be punished eternally by the falling rocks. The original purpose might be remembered by Malagard herself only, but he remains a symbol of tamed and slaved chaos, striking fear into the hearts of tanar'ri. The imprisoned offender lies both at Hades and Baator simultaneously. It seems like the death god and the baatezu have come to an agreement regarding his double existence in Carceri and the Waste. Now he is also a portal to the Waste, anyone who crosses the fire ring finds himself in the Hades. He torments the dreams of Iltheia, making her have heretic thoughts and show her things she doesn't want to see, she, on the other hand, throws things down the pit to increase his suffering. Description: Excerpts from the Olympian Enemies by the sword archon Vieltar of the Shaded Caves: "Ixion lured his father-in-law into an ambush and murdered him, being shunned by gods and mortals, but Zeus took pity on him and pardoned him, delivering him from his madness and allowed him to enter Olympus. He, however, fell in love with Hera, Zeus' wife, and the god substituted Hera for a cloud shaped like her. Ixion raped the cloud and from this union was born a monster and it, in turn, fathered the centaurs. Zeus tied him to a winged, flaming wheel with shackles of serpents instead of chains and dispatched him to Hell among those that outraged the gods." Once in Carceri, Ixion is now tied in Baator, Malbolge, over an bottomless abyss among mountains. The baatezu captured him in a great raid in the plane. Every day rocks and imps rip his flesh and crush his bones. The city of Fiery Curtain is built over this mortal that the baatezu do not allow to perish. A maze-like complex of high sharp towers that can resist the falling rocks from the neighbor mountains built in impossible directions that not necessarily conform with gravity. Large iron structures serve as a base to the city, where the lower castes live, risking being struck by rocks. The upper reaches are not as subject to rock bombardment, but are constantly struck by lightning. Below all, lies the tied Ixion, a large wheel of fire to those that aren't strong enough. Militia: Order is enforced by a large host of mites (variation of gremlin) that can track criminals in the smallest tunnels and corridors and swarm over the mightiest enemies. The aerial force is composed of harpies that devour anything that falls on the pit, even as they fall, letting the refuse hit the fire. Services: King of the Yellow Reaches, Lord Yoshiaki (Pl/male greater rakshasa/LE) is one of the biggest crime lords of the city and has a reputation that reaches even Gazra's city in Phlegethos. He is close friend to Estavan from Sigil. Sword Wraith (Pl/female wraith/Dustmen/LE) deals in frozen and salted foods, but can occasionally "ice-a-sod" for the right price. An enterprising woman has made an enemy of Iltheia, Giulia Longtail (Pl/female human T10/Sensate/CG) and her tiger Sebastian have a love to dash across the corridors and among towers, in free fall or tightrope walking, having stolen or jeopardized some high-up or important ritual. Current Chant: A very large hell hound has being terrifying the inhabitants with a long list of victims, but is being used to cover up an erasing operation by Lord Yoshiaki. |
