This item comprises a rune carved onto a piece of metal, usually worn around the neck on a string or chain. Activating the rune requires it to be traced with a finger, whilst the wearer concentrates upon the shape of the rune, and takes a standard action, though it does not cause an attack of opportunity. Once activated, the wearer is protected by the effects of a Shield spell. Each rune may be activated only once.
